No-one is daring to say “World War 3” … but nations around the world are forging ahead with the “whole-of-nation readiness” thing – as well as embarking on recruitment campaigns. Nations in Europe – while restructuring defense production, supply chains and industrial capacity at speeds - have reintroduced national service.

In the last year, Ottawa launched a 300,000-person civilian defense and resilience force, accelerated defense procurement, hardened Arctic security, and moved aggressively toward satellite and communications sovereignty.

What’s going on? Maybe here’s a hint:

In her first public speech since becoming the head of Britain's Secret Intelligence Service, Blaise Metreweli said Russia posed an "aggressive, expansionist, and revisionist" threat that still sought to subjugate Ukraine and harass NATO members.

As Metreweli says in the short (2 min) video below:

“Russia is testing us in the gray zone with tactics that are just below the threshold of war.”

Maybe they’ll write some devastating regulations that will impede the enemy, like they’ve impeded our economic growth over the last decade.

Wonder why? Can't trust the Great Defender of Democracy any more.

Especially when it humiliates Zlelensky and admires and emulates Putin and his kleptocracy.

I wonder why Canada or any western democracy to be honest is so dependent on the US to defend them...I mean we have given up long ago....decades upon decades ago....and now Canadian are pissed when they have to spend funding meant for future social programs on defense...HOW DARE THEY....Canadians have no one to point their fingers at except themselves...

We, the willing, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have now done so much for so long with so little, we are now capable of doing anything with nothing.

Right now , if your 17 to 57 years old, medical fit your find your name will be on a list some where....they don't care about your political preferences....not your hair style , color of skin, sexual preference, your pronouns, or your type....Traditional the right has made up most of the military numbers it's part of their morals and values...., the left well, they do not share the same morals and values....serving their nation is beneath them, and when they do join it does not take long for them to convert.....So ya everyone is their type, sooner or later...

We, the willing, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have now done so much for so long with so little, we are now capable of doing anything with nothing.

I haven't seen any reporting that reflects this point-of-view.

Can't trust the guy... when Putin did not invade while he was President... who has pushed to make NATO stronger...

Lol. No, young White men across the West are not dying for a post-national 3rd world dumping zone that openly discriminates against them as they're being radically marginalized.

We've seen how our WW2 vets' sacrifices were betrayed.

The country is hardly worth saving anymore.  The liberals have ruined Canada.  I'm not putting my life on the line to help implement some woke left wing version of what Canada used to be, along with mass migration from the 3rd world.  Sorry.

Yeah sure IMAGINE that was what prevented it. Just like you imagine Trump ended the wars he didn't, iagine how grocery prices are going down. that affordability is a Democrat hoax, murder and piracy are law and order. You're the expert on imagining things.

I don't have to imagine it, the facts are the facts. You run away from them every time.

Fact: Trump gave Ukraine more weapons during his term to help stop tanks

Fact: Those weapons were one of the things that helped stop Putin from squashing Ukraine on week one of the invasion

Fact: Trump threatened Putin during his term on invading

Fact: Putin did not invade while Trump was President.

It's been in the media for decades, recently every month there has been a story about the military and its current state, and some how your acting like it is a surprise, "how come i never heard of it...." you have over and over but you have decided it was not worthy of your time or personally don't give a rats ass....Canada has the military it wants, depleted , and harmless or they would have stepped up and demanded the government say something....Governments wil do what ever they can get away with....our inaction has put our military in a place it is now...

In comes Carney, brings our military spending to 2 %, which is a point for his side, Kudo's on him as it was not suppose to happen until 2030....then he agreed to up that to 5 %....or approx. 150 bil on our military every year....by 2030 i think his date is...and it has not been received well by the majority of Canadians as they are afraid of where this additional funding will come from...even conservatives are saying that is way to much, even if we cut every liberal social program it is still not enough...

Personally i think it is way to much, and i was in the military.....and we as Canadians will never see that 5 % in my life time regardless of what Carney promises.......do i think we need to spend more on our military, yes i do...at least until we have a force that is capable of working within our defense agreements like NATO, NORAD, 5 EYES, etc...right now we can barely do one let alone all three at the same time...All most everything we have right now in the military needs replacing...we are talking about hundreds of bils , just to maintain what we have right now...

So let me ask you the question do you think it is to much, and what programs are we going to cut to afford an additional 100 plus bil a year to make this happen...or do we raise taxes....

We, the willing, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have now done so much for so long with so little, we are now capable of doing anything with nothing.

Honestly man, it is comical.

For years NATO nations have not been funding their agreed upon share of defense spending, then Trump comes along in his first term, demands they do... and the left hates him for it, they spent his entire first term lying about how he was attacking NATO, when his efforts made them stronger. Now... after Ukraine, just to spite Trump, the left is crying that NATO needs to spend more because Trump is bad and we can't trust him!

Ya, we grabbed a lot in Afghanistan, Bosnia, Germany, Somalia, etc etc...

Actually if you check history the liberal government has sent our military on the most missions...go figure the left loves a good photo op with the troops...they just hate equipping them for the job....until now apparently....

Seeing as our '300,000 defense force' will consist of guys in their 40's from revenue canada and the dmv with a week's training to hopefully prevent them from shooting themselves, i'm not sure we're REALLY serious about ww3 :)

In any case, even back in rome's day they knew that people who wanted to AVOID war made sure they were ready for one.

Si vis pacem, para bellum.

They're just remembering that is all
