In 1988, the World Health Organization created World AIDS Day to remember the millions of people killed by AIDS.

For the first time since then, the US is not participating in this day.

Tommy Pigott, a spokesperson for the State Department, confirmed the decision not to commemorate the day, writing in a statement that the country is "modernizing our approach to countering infectious diseases" and that "under the leadership of President Trump, the State Department is working directly with foreign governments to save lives and increase their responsibility and burden sharing."

All this, while the AIDS funding freezes at USAID have so far resulted in 147,000 deaths (132,933 adult and 14,150 child deaths).

Yeah, a really modern approach. /s

Killing regular citizens to extract political and economic concessions from foreign governments.

Hm, I think there's a name for that.

No one is killing anyone here anymore than you are because you ate out one night instead of sending your money to Africa.

Are we the ones who gave them AIDS? Last time I checked it came FROM Africa.

It's too woke and not a problem in the USA. No one gets AIDS anymore, everyone can tell you that. Zero people die from AIDS.
It's like all the great policies, remove mileage standards. no one cares. no one will buy a Hyundai instead of a F350 4x4

The Trump approach to deadly diseases is to ignore them and hope they go away, while telling the public that will happen. 🤮

Well, this is a lie. As usual from you. No one is ignoring this disease and the State Deparment outlined how they were still committed to funding various AIDS prevention plants globally.

So pretending a problem has gone away ONLY makes it WORSE.

Didn't your mother teach you that?

The Trump administration isn’t doing that.

Not participating in a meaningless performative action doesn't mean that anyone is pretending that a problem has gone away.  It's just virtue signaling.  Btw, I hope you're wearing the ribbon!

A performative action that draws attention to a huge problem and its solution is hardly meaningless.

wanted to pop in and see the usual cultists justifying refusing to pay so much as lip service as something admirable.

Well Donnie Demento really did drain the swamp. And left only the scum on top.

It's not a huge problem compared to many other diseases.  Regardless, everybody knows that AIDS exists.   "Commemorating" it is just performative theater and virtue signaling.

Hopefully they can add pneumonia awareness to the list as well.

No, that is the problem. You only care about paying lip service, not the actual actions that are doing something.

Just because ^this is what you believe doesn't make it universally true.

What is true is that you are a liar, a coward, and that the Trump administration is in fact continuing several programs and funding to help with AIDS globally.

What's wrong with virtue signaling? It indicates/demonstrates one's good intentions and a social conscience, that one's moral position is correct.

(And we sure do know that Trump's is not)

There’s nothing all that wrong with it, but it’s not important.  Actions mean much much more than symbolic gestures.

How do you know his is not here?

The facts are that this administration laid out clear policy plans in place to continue to fight AIDS globally.

You guys are only interested in hating Trump. You only care about people dying of AIDS in as much as you can use it for political gain.

I cannot find anything that remotely corroborates that. And I noticed you didn't post a source

In fact reading the reports from usaid another organization specifically with respect to this issue that number seems absolutely impossible. It should have been questionable to you from the get-go

Once again the fact that you feel the need to lie to support your cause suggest that you don't have a very good cause. I generally can make all of my points completely effectively with the truth, if you're feeling the need to turn away from the truth to make your points you need to review your points

"That which doesn't kill me...

Had better start running."

Well, you didn't look very hard. The numbers are all over the internet. Here they are, quoted from the Impact dashboard:

PEPFAR Additional Adult Deaths
Additional Adult HIV Deaths
HIV
137,930Adult Deaths
159,272Adult Deaths
3.3 min
Disrupted
Source: USAID
PEPFAR Additional Infant Deaths
Additional Infant HIV Deaths
HIV
14,682Infant Deaths
16,954Infant Deaths
31 min
Disrupted
Source: USAID

83% of the programmes run by USAID have been cancelled. This did not only affect people with AIDS, but also disrupted malaria-control supply chains, closed down the he UN World Food Programme in South Africa, and hinder support for health care, nutrition, development, humanitarian relief, education, and other sectors.

An independent, peer-reviewed analysis in The Lancet estimated that U.S.A.I.D. assistance had saved ninety-two million lives over two decades.

To imagine that the impact of the cuts would not be huge is to bury your head in the sand.

Here’s the UNAID analysis, the predictions for between 2025-2029

·         An additional 6.6 million new HIV Infections

o    About 2300 additional new HIV infections per day

o    A total of 5800 new infections per day today compared to 3500 in 2023

o    660 000 additional new HIV infections among children between 2025 and 2029.

·         An additional 4.2 million AIDS-related deaths

o    Over 600 additional AIDS-related deaths per day

o    A total of 2400 deaths per day in 2025 compared to 1700 in 2023

o     An additional 300 000 children will die of AIDS related causes between 2025 and 2029.

·         3 million additional children orphaned by AIDS

According to the Lancet:

Forecasting models predicted that the current steep funding cuts could result in more than 14 051 750 (uncertainty interval 8 475 990–19 662 191) additional all-age deaths, including 4 537 157 (3 124 796–5 910 791) in children younger than age 5 years, by 2030.
