Yabut don't we have an Accountability Act for preventing that sort of thing now? We've practically been promised this just can't happen anymore.

No, we don't.

It would be a pretty hard law to write as well. How would you even word it?  You'd basically have to say that a prime minister isn't allowed to do business before or after he's in office.

And Carney is a slimeball who's ripping off the people...  and he's also prime minister who's the only guy who can really change the law from a practical point of view :)

THat's why we kept TELLING you not to vote in the weasel to guard the hen house.

If Conservatives put forth a plan that included cameras. microphones, process guardians, criminal charges and jail time for corrupt politicians I'd campaign door to door for them.

Fuque your cameras and microphones.  As I told you, the Liberals just investigate themselves and find themselves innocent every time.

We need legislation so the government can't investigate itself and keep finding itself innocent.

And you dont' want it.

It seems pretty clear to me we'll have to open up the Constitution to reform.  I'd have it worded by an assembly of citizens picked at random like a jury.

Of course Conservatives have proven to be pretty useless at opening up the Constitution but...that's no excuse for not trying again.

I'd say they can't unless there's someone keeping an eye on them who can observe, record and report back to us that its all above board.

And that's why we need to enshrine transparency and accountability in the Constitution - so that the only way slimeballs can make our governments opaque and unaccountable again is to open the Constitution for that specific purpose.

Nope we need to open up the Constitution so governments can't perennially get away with this nonsense.  Legislation won't ever cut it I'm afraid.

LOLOL holy crap :)    YOU were the one who insisted 100 times over that legislation was perfectly fine and the constitution didn't need to be changed :) LOL

I was the one who kept telling you legislation can't do it.

Unfortunately you'll never get the constitution changed. Just not possible. Changing legislation is not htat hard, you can vote for a party that supports the changes. But the constitution requires all the provinces to buy in AS WELL as the gov't and it's always a disaster when they try.

The only practical form of accountability is the voters.  They partiicpate in the parties, they select the leaders they put the parties in power and they can take them out and punish them.

If only we could get you to stop voting "yes" for corruption we might do something .But you've made it clear you don't believe in democracy in the first place and won't be supporting honest gov't anytime soon.

In the last 25 years how many times have we gone 4 years between electins? 3. The rest were all minorities. We hare a minority now.

I know you feel we should just do away with democracy. Which is how i know you don't actually have a problem with corruption.

Then why do you do it?

And why do you oppose the only party that wants to even attempt to tackle accountability?  It was an important enough issue that they campaigned on it and already had draft legislation.

Instead, you vote for the parties who want to continue corruption.

Your claim to want to bring about accountability, while voting for parties that have no interest in ending it....is quite bizarre.

Again I say, one of the best reasons for deep transparency and accountability is to help undermine the truly ridiculous claims about corruption that all to often becomes associated and implicated with the sort of conspiracies one expects to find in the National Enquirer and on Goddesse's hard drive.

There's probably no bigger hurdle to making things better than crying wolf at every turn when it's just really an occasional coyote causing problems.

At risk of sounding like an authoritarian dare I say we might be a lot more governable and easier for politicians to relate to if we weren't forever looking at them with such deep suspicion.

When we give them shit to work with that's probably what we can expect in return.

Yeah, I have little doubt politicians would cawk this up.

No, a Citizen's Assembly should be eminently democratic.  Coupled with a professional technocracy and referenda we'd be the most advanced human society in the known universe.

You gotta think bigger man. Life's to short.
