CdnFox Posted August 7, 2025 Report Posted August 7, 2025 Nova Scotia premier implements province-wide ban on hiking, camping, fishing Yep. They basically said there's a risk of fire so nobody's allowed to leave the city and go into the woods. No fishing no hiking no nothing. You have to stay where you are until winter and it's safe again. I can understand restrictions like fire bands and so on and so forth but you just tell people that they are denied access to the entire wild world seems so uncanadian it's not even funny I wonder what we will be banned from next in the name of Public Safety? 1 1 Quote "That which doesn't kill me... No fishing no hiking no nothing. As usual you don't know WTF you're talking about. Woods travel bans have been imposed many times in the past in many provinces. So have backwood skiing bans when there's avalanche conditions. Fishing, hiking, Atv riding, etc... are not banned! Plenty of place to do those things without going into the woods. Ever seen a forest fire near your home? I have! It's scary and a temporary restriction on woods travel is a sensible, effective way of avoiding them. So sit in your basement and find some other "Assault on your rights" to be self-righteously indignant about. ID!OT! 4 Quote

Barquentine Posted August 7, 2025 Report Posted August 7, 2025 As of today, August 6, all fireworks and pyrotechnic special effects are not permitted as long as a burn ban is in effect. We're in extreme drought. But I know you rightwingnuts will whine about this too! 1 1 Quote
Venandi Posted August 7, 2025 Report Posted August 7, 2025 (edited) With the caveat of "in my opinion" here's how I see it. Privately owned land remains unaffected but it keeps the know it all Herbs, Flyers and Roboturds off the trails and out of the bush. In their world fires are always caused by global warming, nothing to do with fuel loading, errant forestry practices (that we now have to live with) or their own careless buffoonery. I see it all the time, it's the same folks who dump their damn garbage and unwanted pets on my road and trespass to liberate (I call it steal) a "Charlie Brown" Christmas tree every winter. These critters won't walk an hour to burn one of your out buildings down but they'll cut your fence and ride in on ATVs to do it. Ya pretty jaded eh? It's based on experience though. This sort of ban has happened before during dry conditions and I breathe a sigh of relief on the odd occasion it kicks in.... last one was 2023 if memory serves. Certainly, there are sensible people who get caught up in this and that's unfortunate. And of course, the cov1diots will raise the spectre of Covid restrictions and say... "ahhhh, changed your mind eh?" Nope... the lunacy of arresting a guy in a canoe in the middle of a lake for not wearing a mask is as far removed from this as any reasonable person can get. My one fear now is the publicity this has garnered, there's always some fool with a book of matches wanting to see his handiwork on TV. Just last night while driving home from a class (it was dark), I saw the tracer fire as someone two cars ahead tossed a lit cigarette out the window. As luck would have it there was no license plate... probably newly acquired with a temporary registration. Edited August 7, 2025 by Venandi 1 1 Quote

Ever been to Nova Scotia, most of those outdoor sports are in the country which is in the woods, unless your in the middle of the lake somewhere....so ya technically they are not banned, but since most if not all the trails pass through wooded areas they've been severely restricted, to your backyard.... Here in the maritimes everything is either done on the water, or in the woods....Unfortunately it only takes a few wingnuts to not use common sense when enjoying the great outdoors...those guys should be shot with a ball of their own sh!t and put on a rock island for the remainder of their lives.... 1 1 Quote We, the willing, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. A lot of countries never had a lockdown as I posted and they did as well or better Getting the vaccine wasn't mandated to everyone. It was a choice that 80% of the population did. Going outside wasn't restricted at all...indoor settings were. It's peoples choice whether they want to get vaccinated or not, but if they potentially compromise others because of that choice then that's where the mandating of the vaccine and restrictions rightfully apply. Of the G10 countries Canada managed the pandemic second best behind Japan so the government did their job....protecting its citizens. As far as the subject of lockdowns.... Houston is doing the right thing... siding with caution. Quote
