Trump starting to require domestic production of semiconductors. Apple has agreed to start investing in domestics productions. The pivot away from China is moving along to India now where last year the production were over 60%

“Look, he’s not making this kind of an investment anywhere in the world, not even close,” Trump said. He’s coming back. I mean, Apple is coming back to America.”

But they're blowing off Trump demands to build the entire iPhone in the US, because they KNOW that a $3500 iPhone would push everyone to Android and Samsung.

But lDIOTS like you are celebrating that, right?

Enjoy your $4000 iPhones.

Wouldn't machines make semiconductors mostly?  I dunno.   A lot of it is the advanced technical know-how and the facilities and software from what I gather in order to make advanced chip manufacturing.

I say to you today, my friends, though, even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American manifest destiny of dreams. I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up, live out the true meaning of its creed: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all Canadians are created Americans" . That one day we can put aside our partisan divide and annex Canada as the 51st state. I have a dream.

Yes the labor is not in the actual production, the design is labor intensive and that is something that the Americans already dominates. Canada is completely missing out.

Android phone makers are going to be asked to do the same thing.

Maybe but they will only be making phones in the US for the US at US prices. The rest of the world will be paying a lot less for phones built outside the US.

Yep, the rest of the world can enjoy the free labor of those Uighur kids. What's a little slave labor really hurt when you can post a TikTok about your chai latte.

Don't you think that if I were wrong that I would know it?

Most of Samsung's phones are made in Viet Nam. They closed their last Chinese plant in 2019. LG makes theirs in South Korea. Google makes theirs in Taiwan.

And?

We need manufacturing here. What happened in 2021? Do you know why there was a car shortage?

Since when were Uighur kids working in plants in Viet Nam, Taiwan and South Korea?

Why was there a car shortage and what does it have to do with this?

The Uighurs are a Chinese thing. You moved the bar to Vietnam. We were talking about Apple, their use of Chinese labor and their decision to move some production to the US.

There was a car shortage because China decided Zero COVID was attainable. Never mind that nearly 100% of the planet had contracted their WuFlu. They didn't open plants so cars couldn't be manufactured because they needed the Chinese microchips for windows, locks, backup cams, lane sensors, cruise control, start seitches, etc etc etc. This shortage highlighted the reliance on Chinese microchips and processors. That is why a tariff (or any tool) that brings high-tech manufacturing back to the US is good for pretty much everyone. China won't be able to hold the world hostage.
