And PEI joined two years later on the promise of Canada paying off its debt and providing ferry services.

According to CBC....Federal tax dollars was part of the your new ferry deal....which is now under review seeing how you want china to build them...i guess you guys and Eby failed to see that....How could the BC premier not know that...the entire project is funded with Canadian tax dollars....how dare they use federal tax dollars , how entitled do you feel now....

Transport Minister Chrystia Freeland told MPs Friday she was "dismayed" by B.C. Ferries' decision to purchase four new electric-diesel ships from a Chinese shipbuilder using a $1 billion federal loan — but did not call for the loan's cancellation.

We, the willing, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have now done so much for so long with so little, we are now capable of doing anything with nothing.

A loan, not a $300 million yearly subsidy to run their ferries. Not bankrolling a 50% fare cut.

As much as no one likes buying ships from China they're needed NOW. And would've got that loam regardless.

And you don't get the grease until the wheel squeaks.

Besides, the discussion seems to question the legitimacy of provinces. All the provinces plus Nfld are the ones that were self governing colonies that united to form Canada.

No i have not heard of them

Wow- you're from NB and don't know about the large Acadian population just across the Bay of Fundy from you? After the expulsion a lot of Acadians returned to NS but of course couldn't get back the great farmlands the Brits stole from them so they settled where they could, between Digby and Yarmouth. Rappie pie, scallops, and lobster.

In days of yore, BC Ferries was a precision run service/necessity.  You could set your watch by the departure/arrive times.  Breakdowns were unheard of.

We've dropped a long ways from what we had . . . . ferries breaking down/out of service during peak/long weekends, reservations only situations, overpaid executive/upper echelon . . . etc., etc.  The list is long.

Get some new boats, and new people that can manage this bloated boon~doggle.

Both were loans , like your ferries...that need to be paid back and your 50 % fare cut is not a 300 million dollar cut....and all of this was Carney idea....he chose this as a campaign promise , you know the guy you voted form....you need to take it up with him....where do you think all that fare money goes....

Ya, it does not come up in daily conversation....I guess you can't trust the brits to do anything right...

According to the B.C. Ferry and Marine Workers’ Union, the federal government provided $192 million in combined operating and capital grants to Marine Atlantic in the 2023-24 fiscal year, while B.C. Ferries received $35.6 million in grants and a repayable loan of $75 million.

B.C. has more than double the population of the Maritime provinces combined.

A loan. Right.

If the fares are paying for it, why did the system need $192 million in grants last year? If the fares could be dropped 50% are you saying the fares  before were double what they should have been? Is this some kind of Maritime math?

BC is asking for equality and fairness in ferry funding. Apparently the Maritime sense of entitlement doesn't allow for that.

One more time...The federal government runs Maritime ferries...you will need to ask the federal government, the one you helped elect...They will give you a complete break down and all the hows and whys....I've heard they have a crying room as well if your not happy with the answers you are given...oh my bad that is just at CBC...

Yes because secretively the maritimes run this entire goat rodeo....from here we run the country, we make all the rules and policies...Now that you have discovered this those men in black will show up to your door, with those fancy pens and ask you to smile...

Not sure how you got the entitled thing ....like we get so much here in the maritimes.....when i've shown you that BC get's substantially more investment from the feds than the entire maritimes does.. and now you and others discovered that the maritimes gets something you do not and now you're screaming like your hair's on fire and pointing out how things are not fair...

The maritimes knows where it sits at the table, and we are grateful for any federal funding we receive, but rarely do we jump up and down and point at other provinces that they are getting way more than we do....so you'll have to excuse me when you accuse me of being entitled when it is YOU and others from BC pointing out we in the maritimes got something you did not....do you, do this for all the provinces or just keep this anger for the maritimes..maybe you should think on moving so you to could save 20 bucks on the bridge toll to PEI...but then again you don't have to move here just visit and you to can get the discount...

I know it may seem like your world is falling apart....But the maritimes is not your enemy....the Liberal government is....And you voted them in and this is how they repay your vote....you should be p!ssed..
