Oh FFS you gonna make the sorry claim that 350 cars driving from Vancouver to Toronto makes less CO2 than one jet too?

Try the one about how one power plant to charge 10,000 EVs makes more CO2 than 10,000 gas cars idling in traffic while you're at it.

Huh?

It's true! If you drive with two in the car from Montreal to Florida, you emit as much CO2 as if you both flew. I did the numbers.

With three in the car, better for the environment. And far more fun.

Family members of 3 were offered $1800 and a hotel and meals and upgrade to business class the next day for an overbooked flight. They took it and got home 1 day later.

This is about right.  Based on their own guidelines, if they delay you because of their own mistakes for more than 9 hours, you are entitled to a compensation of $2,400 with the hotel and meal vouchers on top.  This is why sometimes they start offering compensation before the flight takes off, so hopefully someone accepts lower compensation.

In my case they did nothing - left us behind, gave us vouchers that were shy of 1/2 of what we were entitled to get and even this money is nowhere to be found!

Would be asking for more now, as they continue wasting my time.

All depends on the efficiency of the car and aircraft. Some cars burn a lot less fuel than others and some aircraft are more efficient than others. Also depends on whether you want to take 3 days or 3 hours to get there.

They're probably hoping you stop wasting your time and move on.  Had the same with Air Portugal who basically said FU, but not with a Canadian airline.

I guess there is more to the story than what you are telling us.

The T's & C's of your tickets can determine what you are eligible for.

If getting full benefits require effort and it is wasting your time, well then, it is your issue.

You are entitled to your opinion, but you are not entitled to tell me what mine should be.

No and No

As I said the sex will start after they are done with their labor dispute and can address my case.

Oh FFS they're doing the same as any insurance company or even EI does. Make you jump through every hoop they can make up to delay or deny coughing up what they owe.

Hell I started a new job at much higher pay, in a modern log home with 20 times more land and a hobby farm and pocketed 25% of what I sold my place down South for. When it burned down I had to 'prove' to the insurance I wasn't depressed and got up, lit the place on fire and went back to bed with my sleeping family.
That's how 'the system' works. Sad but true.

"You may be entitled to compensation or other accommodation for long delays, cancellations or denied boarding."

I am not sure if you took this up at the airport when you were denied boarding and what they gate agents or manager had to say.

In the world? Really?

I do wonder whether we should let Ryanair and/or the Americans in to see if they can do any better. Ryanair might be easier to manage if things went south. OTOH Trump could blow his horn if we let him have this.

In my case the "may be" reads "are".  I was already issued a compensation voucher - just the amount is 1/2 of what it has to be and they did not do the credit the way it is promised on the voucher.

Be patient and I will update you when time comes.

Last year I flew United from London to San Francisco.  The flight was 70% vacant, so I had a whole row of seats for myself and so did my kid.  You lift the two arm supports between the seats up and you now have a bed.   They gave us major meals at least twice and substantial snacks and drinks maybe 4 times!  Never had a flight more comfortable.

In comparison Air Canada gives you one meal on a similar route - London to Vancouver, maybe 2 snacks/drinks , if that, but the worst part is you are crammed like a sardine in a can - almost zero chance you will have an empty seat beside you and a very good chance they overbooked the flight and left you behind!

Mind you, when I arrived in San Francisco last year, the flight to Vancouver was delayed by 2-3 hours due to the Air Canada's plane having technical issues.   They messed me up good last year too!

Entirely agree.

I did the numbers. A 737 Max with 200 passengers is burning fuel (emitting CO2) at about the rate of a very efficient car: 4l/100km EPA calculation. If the car has only one passenger, the rate is to 8l/100km.

=====

But Aristides, you miss the point: why are we driving, flying so often?

Ryanair could start an airline in Canada if it met Canadian ownership rules. Virgin did in Australia which has the same rules.

There are reasons most low cost carriers don't make it in Canada.

1day and libs step in  embarrassing .  count my vote out when u come knocking again carney in 2027-2029

Well, if the airline was to shut down completely it would take them a week to get going again. That would affect over half a million passengers, many of them stuck overseas.

I understand the union's frustration but basically they work for an essential service.

If they are going to force arbitration it is a lot better to do it soon rather than later. It's a crap shoot for both the union and the company, you don't know what an arbitrator is going to impose.

Do you think police, military, firefighters, paramedics, doctors, nurses etc should be allowed to strike?

Not really.  There is such a thing as essential services.  There should be no right to strike for doctors, nurses, medical staff and hospital staff, police, fire departments, and major airlines that provide essential travel for millions of people as in the present case.  Also no strikes for the rapid transit and bus services that millions of people depend on to get to work.

There should be mandatory binding arbitration for all these things and more.
