......... the fine print is wjht gets ya :)

Good luck in your campaign.

Nothing gets me. 🙂

This was their response last Saturday.

"After reviewing your booking, it appears that the automatic payment system encountered a system glitch which prevented your compensation to be issued to your credit card.

In this instance, I have voided the your compensation voucher, 0144XXXXXXXX, in exchange for cash compensation which will be issued by Interac eTransfer. Converted to Canadian Dollars, your X00.00 GBP compensation amounts to $X,XXX.00 CAD."

OK.  So the overbooking was also a "glitch"?  And they could not figure it out till the very last moment?  The conversion of my compensation to flight credits was a glitch and the fact they did not figure out I am entitled to twice the stated compensation amount is another glitch?    😉

As I said, wait and see.

if underpaid yes   which when it comes to firefighters medics nurses and military many are.

Anecdotal only with no facts to substantiate, but don't most people think they're underpaid?

Firefighters I'd debate.... but medics, nurses, doctors I agree they are underpaid given the critical services they provide.  Therein is the reason they should not be allowed to strike....they provide critical services that are essential to our well being.  If not for them people die.

That is not what they said.

They said "the automatic payment system encountered a system glitch which prevented your compensation to be issued to your credit card."

and you would believe them?

Deny and delay is what they do.  The more obstacles they put between themselves paying and you getting the compensation, the bigger the chances you will give up and forget about it.  It is the natural laws of how things work.  Someone may even pass away in the 6 months it takes them to get their compensation.

I was only correcting you and what you said versus what you wrote.

New development today:

"Compensation is assessed depending on the country where the flight departed from. Since your flight departed the UK, the EC261 regulation applies to your compensation. The $2,400.00 CAD posted on our website, is only applicable if the flight is departing Canada under the Air Passenger Protection Regulations. Therefore, only the $X,XXX.00 CAD compensation is eligible in this instance."

My response is OK, but you did not mention this on your website and I will appeal your decision with the Canada Transportation Agency.  Makes zero sense where the flight originated given I am a Canadian citizen who bought the tickets in Canada with Air Canada.

OK...new development but, as I said, I was just repeating what you said on your first post.

The compensation is dependant on your departure country. That is a given and well known by most.

Do not respond to me as I am just a poster correcting  comments you made in your post.

You are entitled to your opinion, but you are not entitled to tell me what mine should be.

Ryanair could start an airline in Canada if it met Canadian ownership rules. Virgin did in Australia which has the same rules.

There are reasons most low cost carriers don't make it in Canada.

It’s a complex issue of which I know very little and I hope I didn’t sound dogmatic there. I am much more gung-ho about foreign competitors in telecom where I know we are being ripped off than in the airline and retail banking sectors. Yes, the whole airline industry has to be looked at - our airports seem to be costly to land at - and we wouldn’t want the likes of Ryanair cherry-picking routes like Toronto to Vancouver. I was surprised to see that route is the busiest in North America.

I must say I find it demoralizing to have to fly the wrong way across much of a continent to get a flight to Europe in the winter time from here. It’s a pity that kind of thing can’t be integrated better between the US and Canada. Plus I absolutely hate Pearson at this stage. What a dump. I should bring my hiking boots and a tent next time I try and get across it. Detroit, yes Detroit, has a much nicer airport.
