The "a dog is really a cat if you look at it differently" is something that people use to excuse this new brand of nonsense regularly. Don't do it. I don't really read the Rebel News - not for any reason other than it hasn't been a go-to habit - though I watch and use some of their youtube videos which are conveniently displayed. Therefore, I don't know if they have an editorial. I might now make it a point to go and check it out. I know that Ezra can be quite passionate and dramatic (he's been in the public eye for so long)............. ..........but it's his actual message that should be judged. Not his presentation. I'm big on FREE SPEECH. That's the hallmark of DEMOCRACY! CBC is trying to suppress FREE SPEECH, when it tries to exclude certain people who differs from their ideology from being able to express their views. That's what's happened with this scrum fiasco. Comier talked about free speech with Cochran in the OP's video. Indeed there is a limit to free speech.....but asking RELEVANT questions in a scrum - especially so when they're given passes to ask questions - isn't one of them. timer: 3:15 Cochran's response was pathetic! Comier had a good come-back: ...but for most people the press the press availability availabilities excuse me after is not the most important thing Look David - I don't particularly care about who asks the question.....therefore whether you're from CBC or Rebel News, is not something to get excited about or a main highlight to me. You're not part of the main event........and........... you're just a voice doing your job! Whether there's a scrum before or after the debate, or not, wouldn't take anything from the debate, which is the main event that people tuned in for. I want to hear questions that are different, especially questions that could get the candidate off-guard and hadn't rehearsed for. TRUE NORTH did it. Edited April 22 by betsy Quote
betsy Posted April 22 Author Report Posted April 22 Let's face it: Even in the actual debate - are we really buying all the rehearsed responses candidates give? What are we actually waiting for? Quote
betsy Posted April 22 Author Report Posted April 22 (edited) Furthermore - let's face it. Even in the actual debate, are we really buying what the candidates had rehearsed for? What are we really waiting to see in the debate? THE "KNOCK-OUT PUNCH!" Same with the scrum, but this time it's candidate vs press. TRUE NORTH was able to deliver it with their questions. betsy Posted April 22 Author Report Posted April 22 (edited) Hahahaha CBC is mocking Rebel News for selling ads. Well - unlike the CBC which is being funded by us, the REBEL NEWS has to sell ads to survive. AND, they seem, to be doing well! Lo - pretty soon......CBC may have to be selling ads too. It was an emphatic rebuke of who Rebel Media is and what they do, with the federal court judge summarizing that the large majority of what they publish has no basis in facts and that what little that does is almost all coming from other organizations and being reposted. For you to sit there and point at the fact that 2% of what they post is actual original news content is proof of their journalism chops is peak comedy. You are what you do, and if 98% of your time is spent doing things other than journalism, calling yourself a journalist is retarded, but very on-brand for you. 🤣👌 Edited April 22 by Moonbox 1 Quote "A man is no more entitled to an opinion for which he cannot account than he does for a pint of beer for which he cannot pay" - Anonymous

Yes it does. They argued that they should be denied because they were activists and paying for advertising. CdnFox Posted April 22 Report Posted April 22 (edited) 2 hours ago, Moonbox said: No, the judge literally disagreed they were journalists, citing that almost nothing they produce is original news content. No, the judge LITERALY disagreed that rebel news qualified as a news organization as envisioned by the tax law. he said nothing about whether or not they were journalists and in fact agreed they do produce original news content. Just not enough to be considered for the tax break Can you point to the line where he says nobody working for rebel news is a journalist? No ? LOL your usual game of trying to twist the meaning of things out of shape to make a point that you can't with logic or facts Quote For you to sit there and point at the fact that 2% of what they post is actual original news content..... Sorry their what? you're admitting they produce original news content? And what do we call people who produce original news content? Journalists. So let's go back to the fact that we have already posted. Rebel news as an organization was denied the tax credit given to journalists because they did not produce enough original journalism to be considered under the grant. But the judge and you both agree they do produce journals and original news The journalists who work for rebel news have three times applied to appear at the scrums for the debates. Twice they were denied with the people arguing they weren't really a news or journalist organization and they do advocacy and advertising. Both cases the judge said that was not the case and they had to be allowed as journalists. They were invited this time as journalists because the commission knew it would lose if it tried a third time to deny their journalistic chops as you put it So a tax judge says that overall rebel news is not sufficiently a news organization to qualify for a tax credit but two other judges have both ruled that they are legitimate journalists who have to be included in the debates which is what we are specifically discussing You're dead in the water with this kid. Two judges have already said their chops are legitimate enough to be attending the very thing that we're talking about them attending. The court case you references they do journalism but rebel news as a group doesn't do enough journalism to qualify for a tax break. I get that you don't like them but the fact that you don't like them is not a good enough reason to repress the freedom of the press. Like I said I don't like Tyee but I would never say they shouldn't be allowed to go Edited April 22 by CdnFox Quote There are two types of people in this world: Those who can extrapolate from incomplete data

eyeball Posted April 23 Report Posted April 23 36 minutes ago, CdnFox said: But we know that's wrong. It had nothing to do with integrity or ethics. Everyone else showed up with the 1 reporter and 1 still photographer alotted each broadcaster and Rebel turned up with 5 people, including camera people and billboard trucks. CdnFox Posted April 23 Report Posted April 23 Just now, eyeball said: How do explain why other media didn't flood the scrum with multiple journalists the way Rebel News did? Nobody is allowed to 'flood' anything, they have a number of invites. CBC for example had four invites and four of their journalists attended. They didnt' "flood" anything The way that the rebel is organized they were eligible for 11 invites. The commission negotiated them down to five, saying that if they promise not to sue for more the commission would not try to ban them from the event. It already lost twice and knew they would lose the third time Rebel media agreed to the reduced number of five rather than 11. The big difference is that they show up as soon as the doors open and they go and they stand by the mic. The others drift in and want to have drinks and socialize and stuff like that and don't want to stand up at the mic until closer till start time. As a result rebel tends to get included in the first series of questions. Other reporters are there with them, they don't get all the first spots but they get a lot of them because they are there early and willing to stand in line There's nothing complicated about it, they followed the rules and they did the work and they were enjoying the benefits Quote There are two types of people in this world: Those who can extrapolate from incomplete data
