Hodad Posted January 15 Report Posted January 15 Article As of 2015, more than 170 million Americans (more than half of the U.S. population) had clinically concerning levels of lead in their blood when they were children, likely resulting in lower IQs and putting them at higher risk for other long-term health impairments, such as reduced brain size, greater likelihood of mental illness, and increased cardiovascular disease in adulthood. Leaded gasoline consumption rose rapidly in the early 1960s and peaked in the 1970s. As a result, Reuben and his colleagues found that essentially everyone born during those two decades are all but guaranteed to have been exposed to pernicious levels of lead from car exhaust. Finally, it all makes sense. Also a pretty good reminder of why we have regulations, so businesses aren't still selling this poison. 1 Quote

Who wants to get rid of all regulations? Just another dumb straw man you guys make up to avoid having to face the facts that some regulations are bad, some are not needed, and many others are just dumb. 1 Quote

And the problem is likely MUCH WORSE in the slums of large American cities, since that is where pollution from automobiles is the worst. So bad that it likely accounts for any measurable differences between black populations and white, mostly suburban or rural, populations Quote
herbie Posted January 15 Report Posted January 15 ... that became pretty clear with the election results..... Yet today there are many, many still complaining about ethanol in gasoline. You have no idea how dangerous that added lead was. I worked summers at a refinery, you had to wear like a space suit to work near it, strip down an get inspect for any little dot of it on you afterwards. And rail cars full of it were rumbling around the whole continent. They warned us as kids not to eat the berries that grew beside the highway because of lead from car exhaust. It's still allowed in aviation gas. 1 Quote

It prevents knock by increasing the octane rating. Like the lead did. And if you live way North, decreases carburetor icing in those ancient vehicles. Edited January 15 by herbie Quote

Except for Clinton who is said to have one of the highest IQs at 182 along with JFK and Carter who was a nuclear engineer. Quote

Enjoy the next 8 years. This comment is just aggressively, offensively stupid. It's hard to believe that the harmful effects of lead exposure can be treated as a culture war issue, but apparently here we are. This problem was identified and solved back before Republicans had completely abandoned science and reason in favor of the mindless spite that you've demonstrated here. And really, you should be pissed off about it. Without leaded gas you might have hit triple digits. Edited January 16 by Hodad 1 Quote

Tell us more about your thoughts on how men can be women, and women have to compete against men... and then tell us about how much you believe in science. I bet you were one of those people during the pandemic mask shaming everyone and acting like a piece of cloth over your face would do something. Cheering on Biden as he continued to require masks on airplanes when it was the end of the pandemic and everyone had long abandoned them. LOL 1 Quote

Legato Posted January 16 Report Posted January 16 If, as the article states, lead can cause lower I/Q's then the question of where did all those people who voted for Biden get their lead from needs to be asked, 1 Quote

herbie Posted January 16 Report Posted January 16 MAGA m0rons politicizing everything. I suppose because removing lead from gasoline was too 'woke' or 'leftist' for their f*cking troglodyte brains. FFS the first ICE engines invented ran on alcohol, they knew the octane benefit from Day One and only used tetraethyl lead cuz when gas cars got popular because their contemporary ass-backwards dopes had banned and heavily taxed the production of alcohol at the time. 2 Quote
