Canada is, at the moment, bound by its signature on international treaties to give a hearing to anyone who comes here and says the magic word: asylum. These treaties are incorporated into our law and will be enforced the Supreme Court.

BUT... they were signed back in a larger world, where a refugee was someone who escaped from behind the Iron Curtain, or defected from a foreign embassy, or perhaps some people being hunted down by some tyrannical government due to their religion or political affiliation or ethnicity. There weren't all that many. But now the world is small. And everyone in the third world has a cell phone and internet and can see how much life is better up north. Now people come here as economic migrants, but all they have to do is say the magic word and we have to let them in.

And they stay. Under Trudeau, we have an 85% acceptance rate for anyone applying for asylum. He and his government have expanded the definition of the term to the point where almost anyone qualifies or can qualify by lying. If you say you're gay or bisexual, for example, and are from any of a hundred or more countries, including any Muslim country, you can stay. Needless to say we can do nothing to verify the claim. You don't have to have any documented evidence of persecution, either. Just your word will do. I mean, we granted refugee status to a pair of Japanese lesbians. Not because they faced persecution by the government but because they were discriminated against in Japan.

Given this, the numbers have climbed from 15k when Trudeau took over to almost 250k last year. It may surpass 300k this year. All of these people, or 99% will stay. Even the ones we turn down will mostly stay as we have no ability to find and remove them.

Enter Trump, stage Right.

It takes 44 months to get through refugee claims now and reach a decision. What happens if Trump actively tries to deport the estimated 11 million illegals in the US? How many will come north? Lots, likely. There's also 500,000 Haitians in the US legally on protected status. Trump has said he will remove that, which he will. How many will come to Canada? What do we do when the time to process a refugee claim claims to 5 years? 6 years? 8 years? And while here they put down roots, get married and have kids. Now we can't deport them.

Do we want the already far too high 250k to become 500k? 750k?

The whole asylum system desperately needs to be reformed, the criteria drastically shrunk, and the process sped up. And then we need detention facilities for those who apply.

He can send his Gestapo Army to start at the 49th and march south saving transport costs along the way.

If he finds ones he can deport to Canada, it would be newsworthy. (half of Hollywood hah hah)

Most of you Trumpalos don't even know what deportation means. You send them back to their country of origin - at your expense not just push them over the nearest border.

You get to fly them back to El Salvador or Somalia and Haiti in US jets with US gas and US pilots and guards. And you still have to deal with every single one that filed a refugee claim and keep the ones busted for crime in jail until their time's served.

I'm not a Trump supporter, dummy. I'm also not an open-border supporter. I do not want more impoverished people coming here we have to support with our limited tax dollars and put up in our limited housing and provide medical care to with our limited healthcare.

All the same that's what's coming at us.

And we haven't seen anything yet. Climate change will causes 1.2 billion or more human beings to seek cooler climes.  We're being told humans can just adapt to climate change and migrating is exactly that - its simply an adaptation.  Animal populations and even vegetation does the exact same thing...move.

A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.

You can bet that given the US election results the liberals, rather than viewing the results as a cautionary tale and learning opportunity will double down on their insane policies. An election can't come fast enough.

In theory, very few.

Trump will deport the illegals to their home country. However, look for a huge influx of asylum seekers in Canada after they are forced to return to their home nations.

On a bright side, I would rather have Latinos in Canada than Asians, especially Indians.

Tell us how racist you really are with out telling us....The current population is based on Liberal/ NDP Immigration  policies...remember that when you go to the polls.....they like Asians especially Indians, Pakistanis, lets not forget terrorists, criminals well you get the picture....The country is already burning now is not the time to find a fire extinguisher, that was 4 years ago....instead we opted to pour more gas on it....Man i love how a drama teacher and a few of his close friends can F*ck up an entire country...Election time can not come soon enough....

We, the willing, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have now done so much for so long with so little, we are now capable of doing anything with nothing.

You never rose to any significant position in the Canadian Armed Forces (which in itself, is underfunded). Now you try to debate (poorly) on an internet forum, and consider your "wartime" experience (which never included actual combat, and a considerable amount of time peeling potatoes), to render you an "expert" at international affairs.

There will be tons of Latino asylum seekers. However, whether Canada grants them asylum is another story. A for what I said in my previous post, I will double down.

I WOULD RATHER HAVE LATINOS IN CANADA THAN INDIANS. If you think that makes me racist, so be it. I will wear it as a badge of honor, coming from a low-ranking old man who never fought a war.

Let's recap your life. You barely passed high school, could not hold down a job. So you decided to enlist in the Canadian Armed Forces. However, you never rose to any significant position. Take a seat, Private Pyle. You are out of your league.

All very true, after high school i had choices, take up fishing or working in the logging industry collect poggy in the off seasons....both have long since collapsed in the maritimes anyways...So ya the military was my way out of buckF8ck NB....as for my position i did fairly well as a non commissioned officer... moved out of MOMs  basement by age 17....got to see the world, met some of the best Canadians in our country....Also met some d*nks but at least they got off moms couch....My sh*t has got more war time experience than your entire family tree....

All of this coming from a guy who has been caught lying his ass off on most of his posts, why would this one be any different.. I know your a jealous man. wishing you had the balls to join up and wear a uniform, Now you got some beef with me becasue some army guy stole your girl friend at some bar, ..So today you surround yourselves with porn and soiled kleenexes in moms basement wishing you had done more with your life....Hey i get it, Moms given you to many rules to live by and this is you rebelling...On the bright side maybe the Guinness world records would be interested in your jerking off record in one day...You'll be famous, other grown men living in moms basement will hold you in high regards....the rest of us, not so much...

Safe Third Country Act.  Someone in America can't claim asylum in Canada, they are bound to claim it in the US and vice versa.  No asylum shopping.  Don't allow any of them across the border.

You are not intelligent enough to decipher what a lie is. I tried to help you, but as the old saying goes- "you can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make him drink it."

Let them come in January. 95% of them will leave if they have any brains.

I just had a great idea: a "citizenship swap" app like "homeexchange.com".

I'll swap citizenship with someone from Texas who's butthurt by the latest election result. Then I'll sell my home here and buy one twice as big with no mtg and no 6 months of effing rain😎 I'll trade them my umbrellas for sunglasses.

We can't believe everythings Trump says.

There are a lot of things that you could say about Trump's philandering or crass mouth, but what evidence do you have that he doesn't do the things that he says he's gonna do as president?

I'm not a fan of intrusive governments primarily because they are the major cause of inflation and cost of living increases but our governments laissez-faire immigration policy is woefully lacking in foresight and execution. Canada, a country where 95% of the land mass is uninhabitable, heating is a necessity 75% of the year and travel distances are huge neither needs or can support the global socialists immigration goals. Add the liberal propensity for demonizing entire economic sectors, encouraging and promoting conflicting ideologies and the result is a divided country where every immigrant is waving a different flag, seeking to instill the "home countries" ethics and morals, rioting and condemning the land and people who foolishly accepted them.  Immigration is a privilege not a right and countries have every right to expect new comers to assimilate and accept that countries culture, morals and ethics. Why immigrate if they want the "old" ways? I agree with the incoming US administration. Immigrants that skip the line, espouse dissension and or  commit criminal acts should be deported and denied immigration privileges.
