OTTAWA — Amnesty International is calling for the release of a First Nations chief who was convicted of criminal contempt, and is calling him Canada's first prisoner of conscience.

Chief Dsta'hyl, who represents one of the clans within the Wet'suwet'en Nation, also goes by the name Adam Gagnon.

He was arrested in 2021 for breaching a court order not to impede construction of the Coastal GasLink liquefied natural gas pipeline, and is currently confined to house arrest.

Amnesty argues this amounts to unjust confinement of the chief and others who defend their land and rights during a climate emergency.

The group says the court order is unjust because it bans activities that should be protected under the Charter right to peaceful assembly and freedom of expression.

This is the first time Amnesty International has recognized a prisoner of conscience within Canada, and it is seeking his "immediate and unconditional release."

I guess according to Amnesty International nobody has to obey the law if the offender is doing it according to his conscience.  He can block major natural gas pipeline construction and should get off scott free.  Incidentally most native bands along the Coastal Gaslink pipeline route agree with the pipeline construction.  The radicals who caused a lot of trouble and blocked the construction were mostly a small group of Hereditary Chiefs and environmental radicals.  The elected band councils along the route approve of the pipeline construction.

Amnesty has, like other previous unbiased civil rights group, gotten 'woke', and now tends to side with the 'oppressed' against the 'oppressor' in every instance. Much like the US Civil Liberties Association, which once defended Nazis who wanted to march in uniform through Jewish areas, but now only defends people on the 'right side' of issues. In fact, a you would expect of a woke organization of the Left, Amnesty International is all-in on support for Gaza and condemnation of Israel at every opportunity.

Someone somewhere stood up for a native. How awful.

That's 2 posts in a day, double down and go for 4. Isn't that how stereotype right wingers  prove they're not bigots, by doing it more and more over pettier and pettier subjects?

How do you rid the world of all its woke people without being woke about it - I mean. you'll have to at least appear to try to be nice towards them don't you think?

Or were you thinking more along the lines of baton wielding police and beating the woke out of everyone?

A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.

Amnesty International - clown show.  What a bunch of losers.

As Democrat and Liberal governments fall, Republicans and Conservatives come to the rescue.

More background in this article:

Trial begins for Wet'suwet'en hereditary chief accused of blocking Coastal GasLink pipeline | CBC News

The article also says:

"Videos also recorded him saying, "Wet'suwet'en are looking after their own territory. We're not recognizing that injunction. We're not part of B.C. We're not part of Canada. "

So he reportedly said he doesn't recognize the  nation and laws of Canada pretty well sums it up.

But no problem taking Canadian tax dollars. After all these treaty settlements,it's time to send them adrift.

I was actually thinking of booting them out of the administrations and classrooms of schools and universities and only hiring people who will teach unbiased versions of subjects without trying to turn the youngins into social justice warriors. The woke stupidity comes from indoctrination.

You personally know this guy and that he 'took' Canadian tax dollars or is that just the usual response of a bigot?

Amnesty Intl. can call him whatever meets their definition.Doesn't mean it's anybody else's.

It's really too bad, because the world needs an organization like that with some credibility.

I guess that, like in most cases where politics is involved, when an org becomes powerful it just attracts the wrong kinds of people.

If the Cultist Narrative Network/Cultist Broadcasting Corporation gave an infinite number of monkeys an infinite number of typewriters, leftists would believe everything they typed.

No, someone interfered in our judicial system when it was unwarranted, and it was done in support of the global warming farce, not to combat inhumanity.

Amnesty International used to be important. They used to draw attention to serious injustices. The kind of crap that they're serving up here just alienates intelligent people of conscience.

Here's what Amnesty Int'l is good for:

That's pretty important. We left Yazidis in Syria in favour of bringing muslims here, and the muslims were obviously in far less danger than the Yazidis (& Christians).

Is our media gonna talk about something like that? Never.

That's why AI is actually important, and why they should try to remain relevant.

^That's important^.

What's below is about Canada, and it's pure drivel:

  • Systemic racism and discrimination of Black and racialized people persisted.

What's the deal? Not enough DEI hires or something?

  • Wet’suwet’en territory remained under threat from pipeline construction.

Sorry but a deal is a deal. When the gov't and industry and elected chiefs are all unanimously in favour of something, and 20 out of 20 hereditary chiefs suddenly goes down to 19/20, are we supposed to kibosh a mega-billion dollar project? Or do we tell that one guy to f-off?

What's lost in AI's article is just how wide-ranging the support for that pipeline is, and it's atrocious that they'd be so dishonest and biased. And:

"Amnesty argues this amounts to unjust confinement of the chief and others who defend their land and rights during a climate emergency." 🤣

Thanks "Amnesty 12yrolds".

  • Violence against Indigenous women continued and the fate of missing Indigenous children remained unresolved.

Nope. Not at all. Violence against indigenous women mainly comes from indigenous men, just like men of every race are the main violaters of their own women.

Missing indigenous children are usually tree roots.

  • The human rights of asylum seekers and migrants were violated

Wrong. F-off, Amnesty 12yrolds.

  • and two-spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, questioning, intersex and asexual (2SLGBTQQIA+) people faced discrimination and violence.

Sorry, but Canada is arguably the safest place on earth for those people. Grab a clue ffs.

  • Canada did not meet emissions targets

Blow me, Amnesty 12yrolds.

  • Canadian corporations were linked to alleged human rights abuses abroad.

And what? Did Trudeau create another DPA law for them or something? Don't blame Canadians for that f-tard.

Amnesty International's farcical screed about Canada makes me completely doubt everything else on their website.

Are the Syrians getting a bad rap for their treatment of the Yazidis? How can we tell from their opinion alone? I definitely need a second opinion now.
