The land of Canada is owned by the King

Recommended Posts

Could this be one reason real estate prices are so high in Canada and citizens cannot easily purchase land surrounding a town or city?  Why is government at all levels making it almost impossible for ordinary people to purchase land around municipalities?  We have one of the largest land masses in the world yet most of the population is concentrated in a few major centres.  Is the fact that about 90% of the land is owned by the crown contributing to the housing crisis?

So, Who Owns Canada?

The land of Canada is solely owned by Queen Elizabeth II who is also the head of state. Only 9.7% of the total land is privately owned while the rest is Crown Land. The land is administered on behalf of the Crown by various agencies or departments of the government of Canada. The Canadian Act has no provision for any Canadian to own physical land in Canada. Canadians can only own an interest in an estate. Of the land owned by the Queen, 50% is administered by the provincial governments and the rest by the federal government. The Crown Land administered by the federal and provincial governments can be defined as land not assigned in freehold tenure. The land in Canada is mainly used as national parks, forests, private homes, and agriculture."

"

British Columbia[edit]

94% of the land in British Columbia is provincial Crown land, 2% of which is covered by fresh water. Federal Crown land makes up a further 1% of the province, including Indian reserves, defence lands and federal harbours, while 5% is privately owned. The Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations issues Crown land tenures and sells Crown land on behalf of the Crown in Right of British Columbia.[13]"

the vast majority of the land is uninhabitable wasteland, millions of square kilometres of frozen wilderness

the crisis is more related to all the immigrants wanting to live in Toronto, Montreal & Vancouver

plus the federal government printing money in order to pay the bills

causing inflation of the money supply

which bids the prices of everything up therein

furthermore, there is a shortage of construction workers, since most immigrants refuse to work in construction

to wit, don't blame HM The King

quite sure he is generally opposed to the policies of the federal government, tho he must remain above the fray therein

I don't think so Dougie.  I lived in different places, on an island where there was a village.  Lots of vacant land there.   I also lived in northwest B.C.  There are vast amounts of wilderness that would be perfect to live on.  For some reason it is not made available to ordinary people.  I don't know the procedure to buy crown land outside the villages and towns, but there is a blockage somewhere in the system.  I don't think that crown land is normally available for the ordinary person to purchase.

Possibly land developers have more rights to purchase crown land.  The BC government gave a logging company vast areas of land and the company has gates and signs everywhere keeping people out.  Somehow the land that is for sale ends up costing a fortune and there is not much for sale.  But a large part of the province is perfectly habitable except the really mountainous areas.  Many valleys with rivers and lakes are perfect paradises to live.

Some of the obstacles are resource companies who don't want anybody to live in some areas,  aboriginals who are trying to claim the land as their traditional territories and oppose anyone living there, and of course environmentalists who oppose humans living anywhere as they worship mother earth and think humans have no rights.

You must only be lookingat those NIHO ads meant to sucker Germans out of their money. There's nothing but available land up country. Neither the govt or the King is preventing you from buying some.
