Canada vs America -Purple Finger

August1991

Recommended Posts

1. In Canada, we vote for a single candidate - who then decides for us. In America, the ballot is a sheet of candidates questions.

2. In Canada, we generally vote in person.

3. Democracy? One person, one vote.

=====

When people vote, they should show their finger with purple ink. This will show the world that they voted, in a democracy.

you start the weirdest thread subjects....

I strongly think - VERY STRONGLY THINK - that when a person votes  - the person should dip their right thumb  in purple permanent ink.

This will show everyone that I voted. In a democracy.

===

They should hold this right thumb above - I voted and I live in a democracy. I did not vote twice.

I feel strongly about this.

We people in Canada vote freely but we cannot vote twice.

When we North Americans vote, I think that we should put our finger in purple ink.

As individuals, we should show the world that we voted - and we are civilised.

Not a bad idea.

Let's begin to analyze the suggestion by determining exactly how you can vote twice.

I voted. Everyone can see my purple thumb.

How does that even answer the question? Does doubling down and repeating something make it so?

Tell you how that can work out. They had an 'election' in Greece in 1947. As so many were illiterate and had never voted before they gave everyone a blue card and a red card. You dropped the Red in the box for the Communists, the blue in to vote for the King. When you left you gave the leftover card to the person at the door.

If it was a blue card, you were directed to a line of Army trucks waiting to take you away.
but it proved you voted!

Individuals hold up their right thumb, purple ink: It signals that I voted, in a democracy.

No one knows their choice. The world merely sees that they voted.

The purple ink will last for several weeks. (You can't vote twice!) But everyone will know, I voted.

Reminds me that in some areas  where people voted and got ink on their finger, they were attacked by certain hostile groups who sought to undermine the elections.

Agreed, States such as North Korea/China/Russia will show many people with purple fingers.

IMH, AI will quickly show that these fingers are fake.

Why do you want to prove to other people that you voted? You're have to if you want your opinion to count.
You're also free not to if you want to remain an insignificant pimple on society's ass.

In Sri Lanka years ago, illiterate people voted by symbol: elephant, lion. etc  And then, the voter dipped a finger in permanent ink to show that they voted. No one can vote twice!

I think that we in this sophisticated social internet world should do the same.

Covid? We all know about face masks, who is wearing one.

Purple finger? I voted. In a democracy.

Is voting twice an actual problem, or a made up one?

Democracy?

We all have a ball, and we put it in a large bowl. Then, someone reaches into the bowl - and picks one ball.

The winner is elected.

======

To me, "Democracy" is when State power passes without violence or death - between people who hate each other.

Since 1802 and John Adams, the US is a democracy.

In terms of trust. it is.

We Canadians are proud of our civilised society. When we vote, I think that we should dip our finger in purple ink.

I have to show my ID when voting. I use a pencil. Why not purple ink?

You’ll have to provide evidence that this is a problem in Canada.

Because it’s silly and not a solution to the problem you claim exists that actually doesn’t.

I vote by mail.  Where will I get officially sanctioned purple ink?

Vote by mail? I disagree.

I  think that you should dip your finger, in purple ink.

Be loud and proud: Show the world that you voted.

Show good evidence that there’s an actual problem and then show that your 3rd world voter confirmation will solve it.

That's his automated response when someone says offers a reality-check on his (often banal) musings.

We used this very process in Afghanistan during their first vote.. it did show the rest of the country you did vote, unfortunately it also showed the taliban who would randomly kill those with the inked thumb...and like you said it would take weeks to get rid of the ink, some choose to cut it off, rather than risk death by the taliban...

And in some cases people did vote many times, due to way to many people trying to vote....overwhelming most voting booths or centers...nothing is foolproof,
