Thanks for the source, and it is a sound practice. atleast one would hope it was standard, but it is not.  but like i said before each state and province has different rules and procedures, and while one state may require mental health evaluation, others do not. Such as the US abortion laws and regulations are such an example. In Canada one does not need to see a meatal health expert. Note this is to qualify for government funding for the surgery, if your footing the bill then this restrictions do not apply. 

Also there are lots of examples of men that transition , then find out that this is not what they are looking for and transition back, there was a US naval seal who transitioned with out a mental health expert, and he regrets the whole ordeal, and now speaks about his experiences to those that want to do the procedure...that and there are many cases of people getting caught up in the fad, only to find out it was not what they were looking for, and had no one to talk about other mental health issues they had.

• be assessed and recommended for surgery by either one or two healthcare providers (e.g. a qualified doctor, nurse practitioner, registered nurse, psychologist or registered social worker)
