Florida goes . . . Florida

Recommended Posts

Fresh off the heels of the Governor letting Spring Breakers congregate on Florida beaches during a Global Pandemic Ron DeSantis is allowing church gatherings despite a State-wide stay at home order.

But, section 3 of the order includes "attending religious services conducted in churches, synagogues, and houses of worship."

This order was clearly designed and worded to provide legal and political cover for reverend Rodney Howard-Browne. We have a public safety issue, nothing is stopping people from following reverend Howard-Browne on his podcast nothing stops them from believing in what he tells them nothing stops them from practicing their religion except to the extent that they create a public hazard or a public danger. And, under these circumstances, I think the order of Hillsborough county was very lawful.

Out of all the places where this disease can easily spread. . . A church is probably in the Top 5.

This is probably one of the more selfish and Godless things someone can do.

The church my family like to frequent has gone to doing a Streaming service on Sunday and it's actually quite nice.

In this time of separation, we can actually come together.

He has no choice....Florida is not in Canada:

First Amendment - Religion and Expression

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

It would be better to reach reach herd immunity sooner than later, and people meeting in large groups would help us meet that goal.  It will also cull some of the more brain-challenged among us.

The tragedy is that they'll take innocent bystanders with them, like retail workers, teachers, doctors and nurses.  Perhaps the solution is to enforce quarantine on these people, through ankle bracelets?  Or maybe simply charge them with murder if their group becomes an epicenter and others die after contact with one or several of them.

They are not under quarantine.    Is all public transit shut down in Ontario ?

Noooooo. That would cripple the local healthcare system and drive the mortality rate through the roof. Like seen in New York, Spain and Italy.

And not just for COVID-19 patients. Anyone who needs healthcare would get elbowed out of the way by the surge of COVID-19 cases. Cancer, Trauma, Seasonal Flu. . .

Nope....hospitals have already learned to segregate COVID patients from others at the facility level.   It is "stupid" to mix the two.  Elective procedures have been deferred, but emergency medical care remains available.   There is more to the world than COVID-19 paranoia.

Suuuuure tents and Naval vessels are sure appropriate for cancer care or catastrophic trauma

And that's for New York.

What happens when multiple cities experience the same surge. . . because idiots can't realize they need to stay home.

Any given hospital only has a finite number of ICU beds.

I don't think you understand or you are purposely being obtuse.

Hospitals have learned from China and Europe not to mix COVID patients with the general patient population.

Facilities are being designated for COVID-19 whenever  possible.

COVID-19 patients do not have priority over other emergency care, including births...surge or no surge.

But they're preserving religious freedom for those weeks they'd otherwise not be able to meet, right?  Isn't that much more important than considering the safety of others and paying attention to experts?

Oh wait!  I forgot -  (some) Christians think this situation is a sign of the imminent end of everybody but them.  Never mind: the welfare of the community is the least of these folks' concern.

Are TTC customers safe to travel on the TTC?

Yes. Customers are safe to ride the TTC. We ask that our customers and employees practice good hand hygiene and maintain appropriate distance where possible from their fellow customers/colleagues in accordance with Toronto Public Health recommendations.

The internet allows for people to express their religious freedoms all day every day.

When the bible or the US constitution were written it couldn't be comprehended that people could talk and see each other from their homes.

ALSO, the early church were just people in their homes, not effin megachurches in arenas.

Are you comparing transportation to church?

No one is getting on crowded buses or trains in this environment.

People are commuting because they have to. For example, health or food workers that don't have cars.

Of course I am....is the TTC a Charter right ?

People want to attend church because they have to...and want to.

The U.S. Constitution doesn't give a damn about the "internet" when it comes to First Amendment rights.

Also, how does the First Amendment deal with Stay at Home orders in general? Because 90% of the US is under one now.

Someone going to make a court challenge?

90% of the U.S. is not under such orders.

Court challenges are already in play for even things like playing golf.
