Florida goes . . . Florida

This is too easy.....welcome to Toronto, Florida:

TORONTO, March 30, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) — Toronto police showed up directly after Mass last week to warn a priest that he could be fined for violating a provincial order restricting public gatherings because of the coronavirus.

But Fr. Dominique Boulet of the Society of St. Pius X says his parish complied with Premier Doug Ford’s March 17 directive — which allowed gatherings of up to 50 people — when they held a public Mass on March 25, the Feast of the Annunciation.

Egg on face.  It's too bad people like Boges didn't pay more attention to what's going on closer to where they live.

Actually no.

Religious people are still trying congregate against the will of government. And getting charged. Just like people are trying to hang out in parks.

But the OP noted that the Florida Governor is actually sanctioning it. Making religious gathering an essential service.

If anything, worshipping God can certainly be done at home.

In an emergency a lot of constitutional rights to movement and assembly are restricted.  Could they not also close beaches?

They can close the beaches for lots of reasons having nothing to do with COVID-19, but they can't infringe on First Amendment rights without a legal fight.

The churchgoers are not quarantined, there is no martial law, and social distancing of 6 ft can be achieved if desired.

Read the link in the OP.  Florida gov listed religious gatherings as an essential service, but local officials have banned them.

Anyone who goes to church deserves their fate but they can also harm other people.

I disagree...lots of knuckleheads are running about playing games with the 6ft distancing rule...why pick on religious people ?

Shut everybody down if going to church is so bad.

I think Florida banned everything but essential services but marked religious gatherings as essential.

Fresh off the heels of the Governor letting Spring Breakers congregate on Florida beaches during a Global Pandemic Ron DeSantis is allowing church gatherings despite a State-wide stay at home order.

Out of all the places where this disease can easily spread. . . A church is probably in the Top 5.

This is probably one of the more selfish and Godless things someone can do.

The church my family like to frequent has gone to doing a Streaming service on Sunday and it's actually quite nice.

In this time of separation, we can actually come together.

1. Nope. The church should be a safe place to be from the virus. God will make sure that the virus does not ever enter the church. God will strike this evil virus down.

2. The Lord must be praised at all times even during a virus pandemic. There will be no excuses for anyone to not attend church during these days of hardships and the virus. It is the will of the God. Obey!

3. What is even better is that there will be no passing around of the money plate during this virus pandemic. You are saving money thanks to this virus.

4. Praise the Lord. ;)

Each year,  approximately 300,000 Canadian snowbirds prefer stupid Florida to freezing their asses off back home.

And I am one of those 300,000 Canadians. Most Canadians enjoy listening to themselves talk. It is what they do best. They hate America but have no problems wanting to go there for a holiday. Such hypocrites.

I love America, and I cannot wait to go back there again after all of this bs is over. When I cross into America I can smell the scent of freedom, and I love being able to buy my beer and wine in grocery stores or even gas stations. Talk about tanking up the car and yourself also. LOL. Here in backwards British Columbia we cannot buy beer or wine in grocery stores. How archaic is that, eh? Good old socialist BC. where big daddy government is always looking for more ways to control my life and who tries to deny me my freedom. Lucky American you. :D

Can people be arrested and fined for gathering in groups and all staying six feet apart or are we now not even allowed to get together and do something like this? There should be no problem? Then people can get together outside in the great outdoors and socialize while keeping their social distance nonsense intact. Works for me!

Toronto mayor was threatening a $5000 dollar fine for some kids who jumped a fence to play soccer on a closed soccer field. Kids want to go outside and play, they know they need fresh air and exercise just like our mommas told us. They have roped off all the playgrounds, even though kids apparently hardly are getting the virus at all, and if they do almost none of them have died.

Probably just trying to keep parents and grandparents from getting sick/dying, dumb governments.  Kids can look after themselves well enough, if they should run short of adults to care for them for a while or permantly.

Grandparents are already sequestered and not seeing the kids, which is in itself a problem that is not being addressed. Parents, if kids are little are in the age demographic where such incidence is low as well, low enough to allow people to go to the grocery stores and liquor/ beer stores. And for people in those stores to work as they must each day.

Here things are still not makings sense. In our grocery stores they have a security guy who lets people in one at a time, so they do not walk past each other coming the other way. Such a momentary breach of personal space isn't that big a deal. Lineup at the cashier requires standing on an X. Meanwhile inside the store people mill around freely, looking for their items. Some might pick up a fruit and put it back, choose another. It's not going to stop the virus unless we completely shut everything down and isolate to the last man woman and child. And we ain't gonna do that, let's be sensible. This approach is futile and enormously costly. That's where some balance needs to come in.

He has no choice....Florida is not in Canada:

The law you quoted, might be n/a to public safety during national emergencies wherever the religious gathering can cause harm to citizens in a non-religious way.

Children can be a vector for this disease, even if they don't get sick - and  your simplistic "grandparents are sequestered" does not cover every situation.  In my neighborhood, a woman lives with her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren.  Another older couple who live alone require regular, hands-on assistance from their adult children, who just happen to live with their own kids.    A girlfriend is due with twins any day now, and she'll have to rely on her parents to look after her 3-year-old for some period of time; her father is at particular risk if he gets infected.

And yes, people have to go to work - so lowering the risk of those people getting sick by limiting the opportunity for kids to make them sick seems like a good idea to me.

Watch are the chances of transfer via food?  Science says - not happening:

That’s because it’s a respiratory virus, passed primarily from person to person in droplets when someone who is infected coughs or sneezes. Though it’s possible to pick up the virus by touching a surface where the droplets have landed and then touching your eyes, nose, or mouth, that’s not the primary way it is thought to spread, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The CDC, the Food and Drug Administration, the Department of Agriculture, and the World Health Organization say that food is not known to be a route of transmission of the virus. And the information available from outbreaks of SARS and MERS, caused by coronaviruses similar to the one that causes COVID-19, is reassuring. According to the WHO, the evidence showed that those illnesses were not transmitted by food.

Exactly.  So, what are they doing - shutting down the likelihood of people gathering unnecessarily in groups and becoming disease vectors - such as kids in playgrounds.  Not shutting down grocery stores, but taking precautions as best they can because people need to eat.

This looks very much like an attempt to balance what's needed against what's not needed.  Yes, kids can't go to playgrounds, but at least they get to eat.

It seems the balance you expect involves either no limitation on people, or complete lockdown.   That's not actually balance; that's the weird conservative attitude that we must choose one of two extremes.

This situation is really hard on everyone, and we all wish things were different, leaders had done better somehow and that we weren't looking forward to months of staying home and the economic fallout that is coming.  But why do so many conservatives have to be so stupid about it?    Deal with it like adults, for God's sake.  Blame, accusation, whining or offering "older people" as sacrifices to capitalism is just dumb.
