I wonder why China and Russia feel so threatened by America?

We've tried doing an arms race before. All we got was enough bombs to blow the world up many times over and a flag on the moon.

They feel threatened by the United Kingdom as well.   The UK strategic deterrent is a joint deterrent coordinated with America.

More like the other way around, America is threaten by them, America knows what a world conflict costs in regards to resources, people, and money....preventing that is what this is all about....

And yet you still have your freedoms to pick where you want to live, where you want to work, to raise your family in a nation that is free of oppression, what does the Chinese or Russians have

We, the willing, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have now done so much for so long with so little, we are now capable of doing anything with nothing.

They have the same as everyone else, scared governments spending money on the wrong things against the wishes of their populations.

Whether they are doing everyone a solid for their own self interests, or purely out of goodness of their own hearts, doesn't change the fact that they are doing everyone a solid.

The goodness of American hearts is the very nature of her self interests, free all the slaves everywhere, a sacred calling.

Maybe you should compare your life style with those in Russia and China, perhaps you can come up with a few more differences, and how many freedoms you take for granted everyday...and how many are dependent on being able to defend ourselves. keep in mind Man has not learned to live without conflict, and he is not going to anytime soon so military spending is never going away....right or wrong...

Both world wars have caught this nation totally unprepared militarily, this has cost the lives of thousands of Canadians , forced onto battlefields with poor equipment, training, you name it...and yet here we are today in the same boat, unprepared and more than willing to sacrifice lives because we were to cheap...those lives might be your's, or your sons or daughters, our government does not care who they send to battle or if the equipment is good or bad....

Russia spent $3 billion less in 2017 ($66.3 billion) than they did the previous year compared with NATO spending $900 billion! what kind of a fuckin "dominant position" does one need?!

NATO spending accounts for 52% of world spending on military! get a grip! lol! its a shake down...

The more dominant the position, the better. Peace Through Strength.

protection racket!

again, take NATO as an example... there's no reason to be spending that kind of money. all countries should be drawing that down... the US is the ONLY one wanting increases in spending because they are the predominant suppliers of the products.

NATO military spending continues to dwarf that of Russia

Most NATO countries have past the safe mark of drawing down....Germany once had 2500 main battle tanks , today they would be lucky to field 200....most of the smaller nations are well past the percentage Germany finds itself....Our Nation is a joke , and your source is way out of date, that and the fact that Justin has changed the rules to what is considered DND spending...like coast guard wages and pensions are now part of our military spending...along with some RCMP operations and tasks,  Emergency  preparness all operations come out of DND budget, along with all costs to all military operations here in Canada and abroad, including NATO , UN missions... plus it does not account for the funding returned from DND because it can't spend it due to the crazy regulations imposed upon it....

We, the willing, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have now done so much for so long with so little, we are now capable of doing anything with nothing.

Thats because the Russains and Chinese are very transparent when it comes to reporting spending on their militaries.....and so is NATO for that matter....

A clever deception but indeed spurious, as only military assets can be committed to NATO, it's NATO spending not overall spending on security.

For example, unlike the US Coast Guard, the Canadian Coast Guard is not part of the military, they are civilian employees of the Department of Fisheries and Oceans

They are not armed,  do not operate expeditionary overseas, and cannot be placed under NATO mandate therein.

Then why is China filled with smog and the UK is not?

Because they make nearly everything that's sold in UK shops.

Wrong. They are a poor country willing to take shortcuts to try and close the gap. Also they are commies, and commies have notoriously terrible environmental records. They are far more polluted, and evidently pollution is aware of borders to some degree, or every nation in the world would be covered in smog like China.

The west used to have tons of smog, not so much anymore, the air has been cleaned Iceni. You want to fight a battle that has already been won in this part of the world, and yet you use that as an excuse to not fund the military.

The west used to have tons of smog, not so much anymore, the air has been cleaned Iceni, no need to spend so much on it that you have to reduce military funding when that is the case.

How many did it used to kill back in the 1970's? Considerably more, the air has been cleaned. The bank does not need to broken to clean the air, so come up with another excuse to justify your desire to spend less on the military.
