Smallc Posted November 23, 2015 Report Posted November 23, 2015 Merry Christmas! Now get out, we need your place. It's part of the job. You go where you're told to. Quote
Smallc Posted November 23, 2015 Report Posted November 23, 2015 And the same soldiers that have been booted out of their place will be assigned to guard those very same premises now housing refugees. Which is also their job. I'm also not sure what you're trying to get at by saying that. It almost seems to imply something. Quote

bush_cheney2004 Posted November 23, 2015 Report Posted November 23, 2015 Doesn't the government have an inventory of portable, temporary housing units for Canadians in case of a natural disaster, let alone refugees ? If not, where would they go ? Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
Wilber Posted November 23, 2015 Report Posted November 23, 2015 No doubt we would do just as badly as FEMA did with Katrina. Quote "Never trust a man who has not a single redeeming vice". WSC
Big Guy Posted November 23, 2015 Report Posted November 23, 2015 I never said I was opposed to accepting 25,000 refugees. Like many here, it's the process I object to. I assume that you know the process. The RCMP and CSIS has come out stating that they are satisfied with the process. What part of the process that is agreeable to the RCMP and CSIS is opposed by you? Please share. Quote Note - For those expecting a response from Big Guy: I generally do not read or respond to posts longer then 300 words nor to parsed comments.
bush_cheney2004 Posted November 23, 2015 Report Posted November 23, 2015 No doubt we would do just as badly as FEMA did with Katrina. But at least FEMA has more than 100,000 temporary housing units ready to go. Where would Canadians go ? Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
capricorn Posted November 23, 2015 Report Posted November 23, 2015 I assume that you know the process. The process is not secret. Here's one media article setting out the screening process. The UN will first screen the displaced people to see if they are indeed refugees. “Generally speaking if it’s done overseas that process is done by the United Nations High Commissioner for refugees. After they do that process, they then make a recommendation to Canada for resettlement of that person in Canada,” says Dan Hiebert, a professor of geography at UBC. He says once they are in Canada, CSIS and the RCMP will investigate. http://www.news1130.com/2015/11/22/syrian-refugees-go-through-a-multiple-phase-screening-process-before-entering-canada/ I'm no security expert, yet I cannot understand Trudeau's rush other than he made an election promise and wants to save face with Canadians, especially those who didn't vote for him. capricorn Posted November 23, 2015 Report Posted November 23, 2015 You don't even know the process yet, and won't until tomorrow. Like many conservatives, you're disheartened by the win of PMJT. Conservatives in general have started their attacks on him far to early for most of them to be in any way credible. Not so. The process has been set out in more than one media article. Oh, so tell me, how long do you think I should wait before I'm allowed to voice my opinions about our illustrious Prime Minister? Quote "We always want the best man to win an election. notca Posted November 23, 2015 Report Posted November 23, 2015 Speaking of aboriginals has anyone consulted them about the commitments towards refugees that Canada has made? I'm surprised our constitutional obligation to consult aboriginal people isn't a factor in this issue - I know I'd like to hear their perspective on it. The aboriginals voted in large numbers for the Liberals and they knew what the plan was so I assume they were alright with it. Quote

WestCoastRunner Posted November 23, 2015 Report Posted November 23, 2015 Not so. The process has been set out in more than one media article. Housing refugees in military bases is not unusual. In the past, military bases have been used to house newcomers to Canada. In 1999, 5,000 refugees from Kosovo were divided between two military bases: CFB Greenwood in Nova Scotia and CFB Trenton in Ontario. http://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/troops-clearing-space-at-cfb-kingston-for-syrian-refugees-1.2670111 A spokesperson for the Department of National Defence told CTV News Monday that some personnel who are temporarily staying at CFB Valcartier in Quebec for training and courses are being moved to another wing “to free up contiguous space for possible refugee accommodation.” The same thing may happen at CFB Edmonton if space is needed there. http://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/syrian-refugees-expected-to-stay-on-military-bases-for-several-weeks-ontario-official-1.2670773 You would think these men and women in uniform are being cast out to sea to fend for themselves. Good grief. Quote I love to see a young girl go out and grab the world by the lapels. Life's a bitch. You've got to go out and kick ass. - Maya Angelou
capricorn Posted November 23, 2015 Report Posted November 23, 2015 Housing refugees in military bases is not unusual. That was then, this is now. In addition, we're not talking about 5,000 refugees as in 1999 but 25,000. The only similarity is that in both cases a Liberal government was/is in government. Big Guy Posted November 23, 2015 Report Posted November 23, 2015 Canadsa accepts, processes, assimilates about 260,000 immigrants every year. That works out to about 22,000 a month - this is every month! What is the big deal about 25,000? Here's a good summary of how Canada's Refugee Program worked up to now..... http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/refugees/canada.asp Quote Back to Basics
Derek 2.0 Posted November 23, 2015 Report Posted November 23, 2015 It's not a home. It's a workplace accommodation. Ahhh no, members living in the shacks receive their mail to said shacks, and pay a monthly sum for said accommodations.......plenty of junior members, often on their own for the first time, live on base...... You can spin it how you want, but doesn't change the fact that members of the Canadian Forces will be vacated from their current residences for Syrian refugees, so Trudeau can keep an election promise.........weeks before the Holidays. Quote
Derek 2.0 Posted November 23, 2015 Report Posted November 23, 2015 Merry Christmas! Now get out, we need your place. Yes indeed, my daughter is in her third year at RMC (and hasn't yet been told to leave), but has mentioned in the article, the officer cadets are preparing for their exams before the Christmas break.....now, per the rules, Officer cadets have to live on base/campus, but for many of the others living on base, the rental market off base isn't much cheaper than parts of Metro Vancouver....... Will Canadian Forces members displaced by Syrian refugees be reimbursed? Quote
Wilber Posted November 23, 2015 Report Posted November 23, 2015 What's the big deal about getting them here by the Holidays, As far as I know, Muslins don't celebrate anything connected to the winter solstice and celebrating Christmas is a no no. Must be a Christian thing. Quote "Never trust a man who has not a single redeeming vice". WSC
