Argus
Bullarky. You didn't address the issue I raised at all. . You asked is it about the money. The answer is obviously yes. Is burning fossil fuel bad for your health? Sure. So is poverty.
On Guard for Thee
Gee, aren't you lefties always telling us how renewables and alternate energy sources are coming on so strong that soon oil will be worthless? Wouldn't it be stupid keeping it in the ground for the next seventy years to where renewables and alternate energy sources make it much less valuable? No, what's stupid is keeping your head stuck forever in the tar sands.
Argus
No, what's stupid is keeping your head stuck forever in the tar sands. You ignored the post to which you responded. Which is it? Are fossil fuels being pushed aside by the ever cheaper renwables or will they still be of extreme value many decades from now? Argus
I dunno, clean air or global warming, what is worth more to you? We have clean air. The globe is going to warm regardless of what we do. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a deluded fool. No amount of CO2 reduction on our part will have any but the most passing and negligible impact on the rate of world emissions. We can, however, as Ontario is in the process of demonstrating, drive lots of jobs out of the country with prohibitively high energy rates, environmental rules, and insistence on native approval for resource projects. All right there sunshine, put your money where your mouth is and live in a cabin in the woods off the grid so that your not doing your share of global warming. Doesnt sound like a good time? Maybe thats why the tories arent going to throw a wrench into the economy so we can have our standard of living reduced.

You're going to go on using fossil fuels and ignoring the welfare of the warming globe!?

On Guard for Thee
More fun than chopping logs in the woods!! Do you even know what you're talking about? It makes your eyes and nose water because they don't have the same environmental standards as us, and so the air is full of VOX, NOX, etc. If they were even close to the same level that we are, there wouldn't be half of the problems environmentally. eyeball
It's a conspiracy, I yell ya! Just like Elvis is still alive and the World Trade Centre was blown down by martians! It's a little over the top all right - especially given the real reasons and strategies were even stupider.

waldo
You are confusing smog with CO2. no - you are limiting the scope of GHG... clearly, GHG's are more than just CO2... clearly, there are both direct and indirect GHGs... clearly, a principle component of smog is ground-level ozone (O3)... clearly, the two principle source components of O3 are (indirect GHGs) nitrogen oxides (NOx) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs)... clearly, the largest global source of (indirect GHG) NOx emission is from fossil fuel burning; human related sources of (indirect GHG) VOCs associate with, for example, gas/diesel evaporation (due to, for example, the inefficient/incomplete combustion of fuels). . drummindiver
Well let's see. We have a Canadian peso, blossoming debt, biggest government in history, rising unemployment because Harper bet so heavily on tar sands, healthcare funding about to be cut, and a string of scandals. One of which will resume to be unearthed in court next week. Best government ever? Where do you get those rose colored glasses? Sounds like Ontario Liberals. Substitute "blossoming" to historical levels of debt and you've nailed it.
Black Dog
Well, that and using even a modest amount of them hugely increases the cost of power. There are a lot of poor families in Ontario now who can barely heat their homes in the winter because of the Liberals' ideological pursuit of green power. Mind you, since the Liberals are a party of the upper middle class, comfy, cozy public servants and professionals, they don't have to worry about paying the heating and power bills. Citation needed. Argus
Yes I do know what I'm talking about. Do you think that shyte respects borders or some silly notion like that? Nope. That's why us spending billions to cut CO2 emissions by 50,000 tons while India alone increases theirs by 500,000 tons is such a stupid and pointless effort. CO2 doesn't not cause smog. CH4 does not cause smog. N2O, as far as I am aware, does not cause smog (though NO and NO2 do). Those 3 gases account for over 99% of the change in GHG radiative forcing over the past 2 centuries. Tropospheric O3 is a short lived GHG and decays rapidly. So while it causes smog, it doesn't cause long run global warming.
WIP
That's a good one! One picture tells the whole story on who really is using our tax dollars. The people who buy politicians aren't giving away money....they're making an investment! And this is how their investment in the politicians market pays off. It's something Donald Trump said out loud and apparently scared the crap out of Fox News at the Republican debate.
