Wow. Seriously? Well, at least you got a response! I am absorbing a tremendous amount of information from you. Please keep up the posts! I, for one, am reading them.

I guess Conrad's still absorbing.

Fricken hilarious!

I have yet to see any research and analysis by you.

Of course that one was one example just in this thread. Again....I have often found jacee quoting things that she claims are fact just because she read them in the comments section. My favorite was the 10 billion in legal fees that she claimed the government was spending when in fact that 10 billion included the potential liability for land claims. Not even close to 10 billion in legal fees....but don't tell her that because if its on the internet....its true.

You're having troubles too. Go figure. Comprehension has never been your strong suit either.

That's this forum in a microcosm: protracted arguments primarily caused by the same 3 or 4 posters who are unable to comprehend what others are writing, adamantly insisting that something else entirely was intended.

No kidding.

The majority of this forum are people other than the small group who keep arguing with things that people never said.

But that's just wrong. You can't assume the majority of this forum is for anything. We are a multi-faceted group of folks. There is no majority.

I can't make enough sense of that to respond.

Unless I'm mistaken I think he said ignorance IS an excuse and that native people should be careful about what they wish for because immigrants will respond by getting tough and cracking down on them.

If that's how things actually unfold I suspect much of Canada will be hip deep in an increasingly dysfunctional state that's verging on an insurgency within a generation.

I said now watch what you say they'll be calling you a radical,
a liberal, oh fanatical criminal

Do you disagree with the notion that immigrants won't care about past treaties and would be more willing to look to modern ways to deal with the issue? Net migration into Canada is 200,000 per year. That means in the last 7 years, we have brought in as many immigrants as we have aboriginals.

Time for them to join the rest of us.

No I don't disagree, I just don't see why natives or the courts will care what immigrants think.

Sounds like you're banking on further marginalization to break native resolve. Good luck with that.

Because the laws and constitution of this country are guided by the people. At any point the people can decide new laws and new constitutions. So if enough people get pissed with the current regime then changes will happen

A lot of Canadians aren't happy about some of those "major developments" either and they join Aboriginal people in protest in their communities.

You don't see groups of Canadians out there supporting fracking, pipelines, mines ... :)

.

You see them supporting fracking, pipelines and mines by investing in and working for those companies. The people out protesting are mostly bums, unemployed people, losers and useless leeches who want others to pay their way in life.

I find it interesting how Jacee is attacked for having the most sane conversations regarding this issue.

LOL. She makes a point of saying nobody supports fracking or pipelines because a few hundred or even a couple of thousand people protest, yet hundreds of thousands of Canadians own stock in pipeline companies and mining companies and oil companies, and tens of thousands work for them.

I wrote to him that I was surprised at his immature understanding of genocide.

He told me "Please **** off."

I envy him his ability to do so.

Dont fret, Harper has bill C 51 to criminalize all those, (bums as you call them), who like clean air and water. You know, that stuff that we use everyday...

First person reports are not hearsay.

No idea what you're speculating about.

But I suggest you read up on the process and do a valid assessment yourself.

You might find something in there that says applicants had to waive the right to pursue criminal charges.

Many abusers are dead.

The RCMP OPP etc have not yet released their records of criminal cases to the TRC.

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/reconciliation-with-first-nations-requires-more-than-words-commission-chair/article24716835/?service=mobile

Last year, after telling compensation adjudicators since 2007 there was no record of sexual abuse at St. Annes Indian Residential School in Fort Albany, Ont. where such activity was rampant and children as young as six were shocked in an electric chair and made to eat their own vomit the government was forced to admit to Justice Paul Perell of the Ontario Superior Court that it was withholding thousands of OPP and other documents about abuse at the school. Justice Perrell ordered them to be released.

Now, in another cases from another school Bishop Horden in Moose Factory, Ont. many students allege there was abuse in the 1960s that resulted in criminal charges against supervisors.

No documents were produced by the government to that effect. And, in the past few months, government officials were forced to admit under oath that no effort has actually been made to search for the records of residential-school abuse that exist within most federal departments including the RCMP, Justice and Health Canada. Justice Perrell has yet to make a ruling in that case.

Perhaps I'm using the wrong term for "hearsay" as it may legally only refer to the report of another report by someone else. To clarify, just because someone declares a charge or claim, it is not enough to assure it is true simply because they say so. Where is your head at to presume that these people are so assuredly sincere as to be somehow perfectly honest? Does no one ever lie in testimony? Does anyone ever misinterpret observations?

No doubt you believe that if someone tells any incredible story, you ask yourself, "why would anyone lie about such a horror story?" But this happens all the time. And you should investigate how groups of individuals in the past have coincided with accusations [like the Salem witch trials] or more recent with the similar horrific accusations of child abuses in day-care centers where once the kids grew up, they revealed how they were lead into asserting false claims. And if you think me being unreasonable, how would you like it if someone simply accused you of something horrible regardless of its truth? Do you deserve to be aware of the charge [Miranda rights?] and have due process to a trial with the presumption of "innocent until proven guilty?" To me, you (and others of this opinion) are being severely criminal when you presume the guilt of others without charge as the penalties place the burden on us as a society to have to pay the penalties.

Major question you should ask yourself: How can anyone deny or disprove the charges in this/these cases? We (as a society witnessing mere media reports) are not capable of even being privileged to deny nor disprove as we have no actual awareness of who has particularly done any abuses. And if these people assert abuse within some report, unless they name their accusers and the accused has their ability to be heard, this whole thing is a sham.

Note too that any court decisions where they negotiate settlements tells me these are cases of being sued and are not a function of criminal courts. As such, unless anyone is convicted of crimes here, we as a society should not be convicted as 'we' have here.

Looks like the media are doing the research to clarify the "genocide" question.

/canada-threatened-to-abandon-1948-accord-if-un-didnt-remove-cultural-genocide-ban-records-reveal

Early drafts included this controversial concept, [cultural genocide] now used by Canadas Truth and Reconciliation Commission to describe residential schools policy. It was known as Article Three, and if it was not removed from the final draft, Canada was willing to abandon the entire Genocide Convention, records show.

Canada knew in 1948 that what it was doing to Indigenous Peoples was "cultural genocide".

As well they should have. It's not as if the UN has any credibility on these issues. There's no reason whatsoever to bow to their hyperbolic rhetoric.
