PIK Posted February 27, 2015 Report Posted February 27, 2015 Spock has dies 83 yrs old. Quote Toronto, like a roach motel in the middle of a pretty living room.
Michael Hardner Posted February 27, 2015 Report Posted February 27, 2015 Just FYI Pik... I moved this from 'Federal Politics' to Arts and Culture. I hope that's ok but it seems to me less of a concern for our MPs in Ottawa than that. I also changed the title from 'Off Topic' to 'Spock Dead' to align somewhat with your post above. Sorry for your loss. Quote Click to learn why Climate Change is caused by HUMANS Michael Hardner

Topaz Posted February 27, 2015 Report Posted February 27, 2015 I just saw this on Yahoo and its sad when ever someone dies but he did live a fair good life and we can always see him on the reruns. Quote
bush_cheney2004 Posted February 27, 2015 Report Posted February 27, 2015 Right.....Leonard Nimoy was much more than just Spock....he will live forever because of many Hollywood productions. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
Michael Hardner Posted February 27, 2015 Report Posted February 27, 2015 Why don't we both change our avatars to Nimoy in his honour, just for this one day ? Quote Click to learn why Climate Change is caused by HUMANS Michael Hardner
bush_cheney2004 Posted February 27, 2015 Report Posted February 27, 2015 (edited) No thanks...but I will share a personal story concerning Mr. Nimoy's recording career. Back in the early 80's, I met a young aerospace engineer at NASA's Langley Research Center (Hampton, VA). She was a member of the local astronomy club and we were trying to refurbish an abandoned helicopter test platform into an observatory. It was "nerd heaven" when she found out that we both had Leonard Nimoy's record albums....real life Big Bang Theory ! The record albums were so bad they were good.....thank you Mr. Nimoy ! bush_cheney2004 Posted February 27, 2015 Report Posted February 27, 2015 I wouldn't want to be the one to tell Sheldon... Big Bang Theory has wrapped for the season, but you can bet the writers are thinking about Nimoy's passing. Has to be done tastefully...or maybe not ! Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
eyeball Posted February 27, 2015 Report Posted February 27, 2015 (edited) He was my favourite of any of the Star Treks. That's interesting, Spock always struck me as being even more left-wing and humanitarian than the rest. I've long appreciated the hopeful depiction of enlightened collectivism that was rendered by Star Trek. eyeball Posted February 27, 2015 Report Posted February 27, 2015 Yeah I guess that's what enlightened collectivism can do. Quote A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.
bush_cheney2004 Posted February 27, 2015 Report Posted February 27, 2015 Let's be clear here folks....Leonard Nimoy grew to hate his role as "Spock" after Star Trek was cancelled. He was typecasted big time, and struggled to shake off the role, despite many other program credits before and after the series. Shatner, Kelley, and Nimoy all had television careers before Star Trek. I remember a Nimoy autobiography titled...."I am not SPOCK". Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
eyeball Posted February 27, 2015 Report Posted February 27, 2015 Followed later by the book I am Spock. Quote A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.
bush_cheney2004 Posted February 27, 2015 Report Posted February 27, 2015 Followed later by the book I am Spock. Money will do that..... Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
eyeball Posted February 27, 2015 Report Posted February 27, 2015 Or maybe the needs of the many trumped his own. Negative fan reaction to the title gave Nimoy the idea for the title of the second volume. Wiki Quote A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.
Shady Posted February 27, 2015 Report Posted February 27, 2015 ...and I've long appreciated the engineering, communications, transportation, and weapons technology !! Yep. I also appreciated that he disliked emotions. Quote

Spock dies, they wrap him up in a towel, and they shoot him out the bowel of the ship in that big sunglasses case.George: That was a hell of a thing when Spock died...Jerry: Yeah...
