Keepitsimple Posted October 18, 2014 Report Posted October 18, 2014 (edited) The Star gushed over the recent release of Trudeau's upcoming biography - Common Ground - the print version hailing "contrasting visions" between Harper and Trudeau Junior. What struck me so very clearly was the arrogance of writing a biography in advance of accomplishing anything of note. Just another disappointing demonstration of "it's all about me". Quite clever - arrogance and a giant attack ad - all rolled into one.Link: http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/2014/10/17/justin_trudeau_turns_his_life_into_an_open_book.html Edited October 18, 2014 by Keepitsimple Quote Back to Basics
Peter F Posted October 18, 2014 Report Posted October 18, 2014 He's leader of the Liberal Party. That is something of note. Even if its not: He's a politician. That's reason enough in itself. Quote A bayonet is a tool with a worker at both ends
Shady Posted October 18, 2014 Report Posted October 18, 2014 This reminds me of Obama's audacity of hope. Quote
Michael Hardner Posted October 18, 2014 Report Posted October 18, 2014 At least Obama had an incredible journey to relate. Son of a prime minster going into politics would be about as exciting as the Al Gore Story. Quote Looks like someone has a new patronizing catch phrase ! Michael Hardner
waldo Posted October 18, 2014 Report Posted October 18, 2014 Quite clever isn't it... apparently, he didn't have a hockey book within him like your hero! Quote
overthere Posted October 18, 2014 Report Posted October 18, 2014 YES HE CAN!!! Trudeau is channelling Hilary Clinton. I doubt I'll read it, so can the OP reveal if there is a chapter summarizing Trudeaus incisive production of Les Miserables with the Grade 8/9 drama class? If Putin ever reads that chapter he'll evacuate eastern Ukraine in a nanosecond. Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!
Big Guy Posted October 18, 2014 Report Posted October 18, 2014 I guess that writing a revealing memoir is "arrogant" or "revealing" or "narcissistic" or "accountable" depending on your political leaning and which party you support. I find that commenting on any written presentation before reading it has a tendency to question the credibility of the critic and the criticism. I will wait until after reading the book before commenting on its content. Quote Note - For those expecting a response from Big Guy: I generally do not read or respond to posts longer then 300 words nor to parsed comments.

But hey now, I believe it's you... I believe you're the guy (or one of them) forever beaking off about "the drama teacher". Do the arts give you manly-men types a queasy feel? Thanks for the assumption that I'm a man, Mr Misogynist. I hope you don't degenerate into homophobia or accusations of pedophilia. I'd likely read a book by Harper or Clinton written from their lives filled -now- with actual experiences and demonstrated competences to inform their opinions. But that is not what this is about, is it Wally? Trudeau is in desperate need of some shred of gravitas to fill that enormous crater in his CV, so why not fill it with some recycled wood pulp? His handlers know that, why is it you don't? Comparing the work experience of Harper today with Trudeau today just cannot be a Liberal talking point Wally, so consult your Blue playbook for alternatives. Quote Science too hard for you? I hope you don't degenerate into homophobia or accusations of pedophilia. bizarre! So... to be properly labeled a misogynist, I'd have to know you were a woman in the first place. I thought you were a guy... a guy's guy... a manly-man, given your oft expressed uneasiness with "teaching a drama class to students"! My apologies all around. As a female then, as you've done many times over, why do you so fixate on JT's hair? And no, of course you don't need to know the gender of another to be a misogynist. What does teaching drama have to do with gender in WallyWorld? Based on your apology I am going to guess that in real life your name is Paul Calandra. Did I nail it? the only ones doing that are partisan supporters of Harper... those seemingly unaware, or most selective! Yes, we get the idea. You want to compare Trudeau today with Harper circa 1990. Unfortunately, that won't wash with anybody. The correct comparison is Trudeau today with Harper today, and The Hair is going to have to flesh out that CV bigtime to float that boat. "Where critics will have a problem with this book is with its insufficient attention to context." For example: "While it’s correct to say Mr. Trudeau’s economic performance was mainly miserable, so were the results of most other leaders through the period. Economies were crashing all over the place. Check Britain’s foundering back then and the brutal misery index in the United States." and "The book laments Mr. Trudeau’s take on the United States. Again, context is needed – context such as Vietnam, racial riots, assassinations, Watergate and Richard Nixon. In these times, the last thing Canadians wanted was a leader cozying up to Washington. They wanted more economic, cultural and military independence and so did Mr. Trudeau." "Mr. Plamondon is on the money in saying that Mr. Trudeau alienated wide swaths of the country. At the same time, he had an enchanting impact as well. He is still admired by so many Canadians “because of the way he made them feel,” former Liberal strategist Chris Vivone says in the book. “He gave Canadians confidence and a sense of independence.” Add to that, a sense of strength owing to his intellectual steel." Hippooocracy! and you do it yet again here. Once more let us be clear- the next election will be a choice between Trudeau now and Harper now, not Harper 1990 and Trudeau now. I know you hate that, but no amount of your wishing otherwise will make it so. That reality is why Trudeaus handlers will be publishing 'serious' books- to build some, any kind of CV for your plucky lad. I don't blame them, what else is there?
