If you put "truck nuts" on your trailer hitch, people are going to assume you're a dumb-ass with a room-temperature IQ and a juvenile sense of humor.

By having himself sworn in as President (similar to the privy oath that Cabinet members receive) as "Barack Hussein Obama" he was affirming his identity, at best, as a "citizen of the world" and at worst as a Muslim with an Indonesian upbringing. The citizens of the U.S. intended to elect someone who would put America, not the world, first.

Isn't this the way all president's are sworn in, using first, second and last name?

I think they can be sworn in any way they want. President Carter was sworn in as "Jimmy Carter" and not "James Earl Carter."

Before the occasion, Obama said: "I think the tradition is that they use all three names and I will follow the tradition, not trying to make a statement one way or the other. I'll do what everybody else does."

But even if was trying to make a statement, extending an olive branch to the Muslim world could only be considered offensive by the most radical islamophobes and partisan Republicans. That's why it wasn't a big deal at the time. You can only pay attention to the loonies so much.

...............

Go ahead if you wish. I just don't get why supposedly intelligent individuals would want to sabotage their arguments by putting truck-nuts on them.

Possibly your best post yet using a very good analogy.

You might have a completely different reason for putting "truck nuts" on your truck. Maybe you're doing it to raise awareness of testicular cancer. But people won't know that. They'll just assume you're an asshole, like every other guy who has "truck nuts" on his truck.

And by referring to Obama as "Barry Hussein", you're basically putting truck-nuts on your post. It basically sabotages the point you're trying to argue. It predisposes your audience to assume that you've swallowed the Tea Party kool-aid, that you're probably a "birther" or some other form of idiot. If you want your post to be taken seriously, why start off by biasing your audience against you before you've even started?

Everybody knows the president's middle name, but not everybody knows you. If you're going to start off with Barry Hussein, you're inviting people to make negative assumptions about you. Aren't you a lawyer? I thought you guys were supposed to understand that sort of thing.

Go ahead if you wish. I just don't get why supposedly intelligent individuals would want to sabotage their arguments by putting truck-nuts on them.

I say that goes for hoodies and baggy jeans too, right?

What's wrong with wearing hoodies? You can't find a decent cardigan anymore. What's a fellow to do?

So referring to Barry Hussein is truck nuts, but referring to Dubya or shrub is ok? Did these so-called rules change because of Obama's skin colour? And who decides on these rule changes? Intellectual "heavyweights" like kimmy?

What about the term 'Merika for America? Truck nuts too? Where are the language police when you need them!!!!

Yes, Shady, truck nuts are in the eye of the beholder. Some people might think they are a clever accessory for their vehicle. It's up to each individual to decide whether or not they want them.

Exactly. Like a Darwin fish.

But the thing is, does the greater population think lesser of your reasoning skills for putting a Darwin fish or for putting truck nuts on your car? You probably think lesser of the Darwin fish because you are told by your blog-masters that you are supposed to deny evolution, but the greater population probably doesn't agree with you.

No, I'm just agreeing, to each their own. Truck nuts, baggy pants, hoodies, Dubya, shrub, Barry Hussein, etc. we all pick and choose.

I was wondering what people thought of how Obama's refusal to support Syrian rebels progressed predictably to the hijacking of the revolt by ISIL. Good foreign policy, right?

I am not an Islamophobe, radical or otherwise. I am not a Republican, partisan or otherwise. I have Muslims friends (including my next-door neighbor) and clients. I am a Democrat.

I don't think every post on this board is talking about you, but I notice no denial about the loonie part.

That post was in response to one of mine, if I am not mistaken. And can you supply me with a few million Canadian loonies? I could use them.

Fixing a sink doesn't make you a plumber. Checking a box on a ballot doesn't make you a Democrat.
