Khadr deserves to be punished by the rule of law, nothing more & nothing less.

He was 15 years old when he threw the grenade and made bombs to fight the Western insurgency. That needs to be punished, but he was also 15 and therefore a child at the time. The Harper gov now wants Khadr to be tried as an adult. I don't understand why anyone would want a child to be seen as an adult when clearly they're a child. Harper wants Khadr tried as an adult but was rejected yesterday, yet again, by the Supreme Court. At 15, you can't legally drive, vote, or get married because of still underdeveloped mental capacity and maturity and their ability to be easily influenced by others (including parents) because they don't know any better. Khadr should be punished as a 15 y/o for what he did, not as a man in his 20's which he was not.

Harper also moved the age of sexual consent to 16 from 14 because 15 year olds aren't adult enough to decide whether or not they want to have sex with their bf or gf.

Actually, to be correct, 14 year olds can still have sex with their boyfriends/girlfriends, just not if they're under 12 or over 19.

Yeah, the prospect of jailing hundreds of thousands of 12, 13, 14, 15 year olds didn't sit well even with old law & order Harper.

I think Khadr should also win an all expenses paid trip back to his home country, for life.

He doesnt need that, he is already in his home country.

Oops, pardon me. I see now that others have already put Shady back on track.

His home country should the country he spent much of his childhood in, and where he committed his atrocities. At the very least, his parents should be shown the door, and perhaps he'll follow. If we're lucky.

Sorry Shady, but luckily we dont change our laws based on bigotry.

The only bigotry comes from the Khadr family. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

He deserves less. Rehabilitative treatment is what the U.N. child soldier program calls for not punishment.

.

The adults who exploited Omar Khadr need to be punished for anything he might have done, not him.

Exactly what riddance are you referring to?

What on Earth is preventing Harper from going after Omar Khadr's mother with his anti-radicalization laws?

I wonder when we will see the first report in the media about US jurisdictions becoming increasingly reluctant to agree to transfer Canadian prisoners back to Canada in light of our liberal courts and laws.

After all, the basic principle is that they serve their time here, the time American courts have set for them. If our courts are simply going to set people free without regard to that why would they not tear up the treaty?

The USA transferred Khadr back to Canada, because they knew that the whole case was an embarrassment to them.

Nobody cares what you think his home country should be. He was born in Canada and is as much a citizen as you are both by law and by right. Edited by cybercoma

Your point was wrong, because it isn't a comparable situation. The 15 year old in your case can still make up their own mind and have sex with anyone from 13 - 20. They're still largely responsible for their own actions.

Just because you are a Canadian citizen does not mean Canada is your "home country"

But he also spent a lot of time in jail getting tortured. Is jail his home country?

I think that's a question only Omar can answer.

Canada has laws about what a "home country" is?

Sounds like you guys didn't actually read what Shady wrote.

This is a better approach to Shady's comment in an debate.
