Black Dog Posted September 10, 2014 Author Report Posted September 10, 2014 All the more jarring considering she has the Left all to herself. Are we really to believe SOB Liberals would rather sit at home, than have Chow elected? Dunno what this means. Or is Tory that big tent that he appeals to everyone in the city. Less about his big tent appeal and more about his status as the best "anybody but Ford" choice. I think Chow's NDP associations aren't helping her: that brand of left is not that strong here anymore and the squishy centrists who ordinarily would be inclined to park their vote with her are too terrified of Ford to commit. Plus, as I said, she's done a poor job convincing people she'd be a viable alternative to RoFo. Still, I'm not convinced she'll finish in third. Elections are all about the ground game and getting out the vote and she has a big machine for that. We shall see. All I know is, I'm not happy that I have to move my vote to her as the closest thing to a left candidate remaining. Quote

I am unused to partisan politics at the municipal level, the sharp left-right divide but it seems that is the norm in Toronto. Do you think that her loss will carry through to federal politics, are the NDP about to get the same treatment next year? Or are they unrelated completely? Quote Science too hard for you? I think the NDP are gonna get creamed federally, but not for the same reasons. Didn't the city have a series of overtly NDP slates in the last 20 or so years, including Jack Layton, Ms Chow and cronies? So the current municipal NDP connection does not correlate to the provincial.federal scenes? I would have thought that of the three federal parties, the NDP were the most integrated and consistent in their platforms and message. Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!

I would have thought that of the three federal parties, the NDP were the most integrated and consistent in their platforms and message. The NDP in Toronto has lost a formerly safe federal seat (Chow's old one) to the Liberals. They lost three Toronto seats in the provincial election. I'm hesitant to read too much into these though, as there are a lot of different reasons each result (demographic shifts may have cost them Chow's old seat, while the provincial Dippers ran a terrible, awful horrible campaign). I suppose, if Chow loses, there's a trend there, but again, it could be coincidence more than anything. Quote

Are we really to believe SOB Liberals would rather sit at home, than have Chow elected? Or is Tory that big tent that he appeals to everyone in the city. He's a populist like Ford so you can call it a big tent....that would mean Ford had a big tent last time. He didn't, he wasn't inclusive just a populist pony appealing to people's base feelings.Chow has tried to go the populist route....no one buys it.....she comes off as fake which is hurting her brand. If she came out as herself she would've pulled 20%.....as she is now....I bet she gets 10%. Quote

Boges Posted September 16, 2014 Report Posted September 16, 2014 Chow is flailing right now. I read on the weekend that her campaign is "offended" because Tory said Chow has more positions than the Masters of Sex. Or something along those lines. It's a TV Show!!!! Is there anyone that's less sexist than Tory? Also bitching at Tory for not going to a few of the NINE!!!! debates this week. Some people from Toronto on this site should see if they can organize a MLW debate and see if Chow shows up. Quote

I read on the weekend that her campaign is "offended" because Tory said Chow has more positions than the Masters of Sex. Or something along those lines. It's a TV Show!!!! Master and Johnson. The people, not the show. It was a weird comment (since "more positions than the karma sutra" would have made way more sense) Is there anyone that's less sexist than Tory? John "women should take up golf to get ahead in business" Tory? Also bitching at Tory for not going to a few of the NINE!!!! debates this week. No they are bitching at Tory for bailing on a debate at the very last minute, one that was focused on transit, which is the central plank of his campaign. It's not surprising, mind you: Smart Track is about as unworkable as any of the magic schemes we've seen from Ford. Quote
cybercoma Posted September 16, 2014 Report Posted September 16, 2014 I'm thinking of registering as a mayoral candidate for Toronto. I'll just draw up a random transit plan and promise not to raise taxes and to slash the benefits and wages of city employees. Am I doing this right? Quote

You need a ridiculous catch phrase like 'gravy train' you can repeat endlessly. I suggest 'trimming the fat'; it works on a few levels with the Fords involved. Boges Posted September 23, 2014 Report Posted September 23, 2014 2 Polls released yesterday both have Tory, DoFo, Chow in that order. The Nano poll has Tory closing in on 50%. Quote
Boges Posted September 25, 2014 Report Posted September 25, 2014 DoFo is way more entertaining that RoFo. He says September 27th will be "Take John Tory to Work Day" BTW these debates are pointless now aren't they? DoFo is right for only going to a few of them. Tory will start skipping them now too if Doug doesn't bother show. Looks like Chow is an also ran and it's a race between Ford and Tory. Quote
Black Dog Posted September 25, 2014 Author Report Posted September 25, 2014 DoFo is way more entertaining that RoFo. He says September 27th will be "Take John Tory to Work Day" Yeah based on Tory not knowing the ins and outs of city hall business. Of course Rob Ford repeatedly demonstrated himself to be completely clueless despite 10 years on council and four in the mayor's chair and DoFo has one of the worst attendance records on council. What a bunch of weasels. BTW these debates are pointless now aren't they? DoFo is right for only going to a few of them. Tory will start skipping them now too if Doug doesn't bother show. Looks like Chow is an also ran and it's a race between Ford and Tory. Be funny if the old money/noveu riche clash splits the vote and Chow sneaks up the middle. There's a pretty healthy chunk of the electorate that's still undecided. And Chow is still within the margin of error of DoFo. Quote

Boges Posted September 30, 2014 Report Posted September 30, 2014 Heard that Forum Research has Chow at 20% now. That's pretty close to irrelevance. The talking heads I was listening to said that with that support, the money will start drying up and she might have to drop out. Quote
