Watching TV - Another sighting of "debris" in another part of the ocean. Starting to approach the same number of sightings as those of Elvis. Am starting to have same confidence in the validity of both numbers.

Note - For those expecting a response from Big Guy: I generally do not read or respond to posts longer then 300 words nor to parsed comments.

Next time you fly, try and get a connection. I flew often with my previous job and not once had I been able to get a signal at altitude. Cell towers are closer to each other than the distance between you and a cell tower when you are flying at 30K. Cell towers may be a couple KMs apart. At 30K that means you are over 5 miles (8 kms) from the nearest tower. The towers don't have that kind of range.

As my link shows, it depends entirely on where you are as well. The chance of getting a connection is quite low but repeated attempts did result in a connection, it seems.

But... not over the ocean.

Well it's over 3 weeks now and nothing!

Apparently from what I have read, the black box has only less than another 10 days ability to transmit location.

So far it looks like it isn't working at all, so I don't think that makes any difference.

Any remote garbage in the sea seems to be a "promising" lead!

Sounds like the term "promising lead" has past it's shelf life!

March 28th minus March 8th equals 20 days, which is under 3 weeks. Sigh

Oh ya you're right! But still wrong!

For some reason I thought this plane took off BEFORE my flight back to Canada!

We boarded a Cathay Pacific flight from HGK to YYZ at around 1115 hrs China time on the 7th. I thought the plane went missing earlier that day.

But as it turns out,(after you painfully enlightened me) it went missing after that night.

Keep in mind that the time in China was 13 hrs ahead before daylight savings time that weekend. After the clocks went ahead, they're only 12 hrs ahead.

When I wrote the comment, at 6.47pm it is actually 7.47am March 29th where the plane went missing! (but possibly still only 0647 or 0547hrs depending on the time zone used)

Therefore 29-8=21

So technically, I am still right by a few hours!

Keep in mind that this was the last contact time with the plane, so any time afterwards, it went missing.

Here's your consolation prize!

A couple nights ago, I listened to Jesse Ventura on the radio and he said he thinks, there's a possibility that the plane could have landed on the US Naval base Diego Garcia,. He said he was there in the 1970's as a navy seal. he was asked if he would run for Prez and said he couldn't because HE couldn't lie to the people unlike both the Republicans and Democrats have done over their time in power. There's no proof the US has anything to do with this but then again, it was mostly Chinese on board and in recent months the two countries have been at odds with each other.

Not to mention that, as far as I know, all the leads that are being followed are from what the US is saying where the ping signals from the engines have led the plane too.

The US is leading the search direction in other words (from my understanding)

And it's coming up with a big goose egg!

And looking more and more like a goose chase!

I am seriously doubting that there is anything in that area! (south Indian ocean)

I seriously doubt that a plane like this with all it's tech. can go missing without a major player's influence.

Who that major player is???

That individual, and the show he appeared on, are both parts of a cottage industry that makes money by spreading intriguing information that at its best is goofy fun (bigfoot, time travel participants) and at its worse spreads misery (anti-vax frauds, scam cancer cures).

Institutions will, in a closed society, grow to lie more and more and so we need challengers to question the conventional wisdom. But to my mind MLW isn't the kind of forum where those kinds of ideas are, or should be entertained.

It makes me pretty sad that CNN has been putting psychics on TV to get their "readings" on what might have happened to the plane. Or have host Don Lemon asking if it's possible that a "mini Black Hole" might have made the plane disappear. I thought the information age was supposed to make people smarter, but instead it's just giving stupid people more access to stupid ideas.

This sentence jumped out at me, and it reminded me of a New Yorker cartoon that was in my Psych 101 textbook. It was a sketch of two tired looking figures in front of a TV and one of them is saying something like:

"When you think of power that television has to educate and inform us, aren't you glad that it doesn't ?"

McLuhan talked about some of the changes that come up when new media emerge, and these include new issues being uncovered. People do get smarter, but with the new media we have visibility into the stupidity and ignorance that is there - and has been...

The new media are going to allow us to tag stupid statements, and attribute them to their source. That seems like it could be a good thing. The "public" that we have today is actually a mass of media consumers who are not personally tied to dumb ideas such as:

- I'm entitled to a living, even if I have no skills that are in demand and I'm not interested in living

- My ignorant opinions are valid and should be accommodated by public policy

These are a few ideas. I have more.

I flew from Ottawa to Toronto and back. Ontario has large coverage for cell service and not once was I able to get a connection. So my results don't seem to match what the experts say.

A sad state of affairs when so called 'respectable' news organizations dabble in the occult and paranormal as an avenue of finding information on a missing aircraft.

I guess you didn't read the link.

The point is that urbanized areas with more coverage are less likely to give you a connection on flyover. But... the point is so minor. It's a small chance of connection, and it wouldn't have any impact on MH 370... and as you pointed out things have changed drastically since 2001 so...

Reading the link won't change my personal experience that I have never been able to get a cell connection at altitude. Even over populated areas.

I would further elaborate on this.

The show in question exploits the fact that there are huge gaps in evidence and other testimonies/data that allegedly support the official explanations!

Want to debunk the show, use overwhelming amount of facts!

Not so easy though is it?

So those trying to debunk instead attack other aspects

Any veteran on this site and to debating is more than familiar with the tactic.

I personally am only trying to stick with the actual facts, what actually happened to the plane?????

Yes, exactly. This is why we shouldn't rely on personal experiences to form opinions in every case. For example, evolution... physics... sociology...

"Gaps in evidence" is subjective. "Unexplained facts" is more objective.

If you want to convince me, you can start by using fact-based sources and I will pay closer attention.

Just goes to show that the facts are not adding up as far as I'm concerned!

How a freekin huge commercial airliner, armed with the latest tracking tech. and all the advanced tech. governments have (satellites, radar, sonar, etc) can go missing and without any trace reeks of some kind of cover up!

Don't see how your first sentence/comment has any relevance?

As far as the second, I'm not reposting the same links that you have not read. Not my job.

Search teams are in the SW Indian ocean because US officials have said that is where the engine pings are coming from. The plane was equipped with a black box that emits signals for rescue/search teams to help find.

But nothing?

Please lets debate/discuss and forward the facts and not got sidetracked by some kind of minor thing.

You will want to revisit some of the other major incidents in the past few years and see the inconsistencies in the reporting of those incidents.

This is a freakin circus.

Why not rely on my personal experience? It IS my experience. Other than these incidents have you ever heard about from people themselves that they were able to get a cell connection at altitude?

Sure we are playing this out out to death because we know that cannot happen over the ocean. So them trotting out this cell phone thing is total bull. Grasping as straws here.

Putting aside some remarks that have been made on CNN they still do provide excellent coverage that we would otherwise not see. I especially like the professional pilots and other talking heads that call out on Malaysia and poke holes in their theories. I think that Les guy is great and Jim, the other pilot. At least they are starting to reduce the coverage so it is no longer 24/7.

Gaps in evidence imply that somebody is providing evidence for a theory, and that theory is wanting. It's subjective to make that judgment, so somebody could say that in response to almost any incident and explanation.

As far as the second, I'm not reposting the same links that you have not read. Not my job.

Actually, when you make an argument you're already doing a job. If you want to do a better job, ie. convince more people, then use sources that more people can believe. It's that simple.

Please lets debate/discuss and forward the facts and not got sidetracked by some kind of minor thing.

WWWTT

I have given you some attention already, and feedback. I don't think you and I have much more to say on this particular case. My advice for making convincing arguments is there for you to take or leave as you see fit.
