overthere Posted February 20, 2014 Report Posted February 20, 2014 I didn't find it thus. Suspense implies the outcome was in doubt at some point. Latvia had nothing going, it was really only a matter of time. ??? The outcome was most defintiely in doubt until the end. it was 1-1 with seven minutes left in regulation. A bad bounce, in off a skate and we'd be watching figure skating on Friday. But never mind, its USA on Friday. The Aneicans have had two silvers in the last three Olys, They have a big, fast team and a fine goalie. They are also undefeated so far. Hang on to your seats Quote Science too hard for you? guyser Posted February 20, 2014 Report Posted February 20, 2014 Kessel family tradition. Not so sure thats fair and accurate. Phil was one of the best on the ice vs Bruins last year, and we all know how that went, but not Phil's fault in any stretch Quote
Boges Posted February 20, 2014 Report Posted February 20, 2014 Kessel family tradition. We'll see tomorrow. Quote

Black Dog Posted February 20, 2014 Report Posted February 20, 2014 Funny that no one is wringing their hands over this win the way so many were over the men's win over Latvia, even though it took a fluke goalpost and a couple of real questionable penalty calls in OT for the women to win. Talk about squeaking by, eh? Quote
guyser Posted February 20, 2014 Report Posted February 20, 2014 Anser me this? Why wasnt that a penalty shot in OT ? Quote

Talk about squeaking by, eh? If yesterday's men's game was against the US or Russia or Sweden or Finland, there would be no hand wringing. It was againt freakin' Latvia! ironstone Posted February 20, 2014 Report Posted February 20, 2014 I refuse to watch them and I'm ashamed that Canada is such a willing participant. I loath the respect our participation confers to the sorts of regimes this planet needs to relegate to history, like Putin's. To me it's no better than wheeling and dealing with dictators. I remember during the London Olympics reading about how the IOC was coming down hard on anyone trying to cash in on the games, even in the tiniest way,for instance like a bakery having a bunch of doughnuts on display in the shape of the Olympic rings.Something about copyright infringement or trademarks, talk about petty.I think all those buggers that make up the International Olympic Committee are every bit as greedy and corrupt as any dictator. ironstone Posted February 20, 2014 Report Posted February 20, 2014 Kessel family tradition. I kinda wish the Bruins still had Kessel. Quote "Socialism in general has a record of failure so blatant that only an intellectual could ignore or evade it." Thomas Sowell
Black Dog Posted February 21, 2014 Report Posted February 21, 2014 Anser me this? Why wasnt that a penalty shot in OT ? I'd say it's because Wickenheiser didn't have control of the puck at the moment of the foul. International rules seem to differ slightly from the NHL on this point. The NHL rules specifically say a penalty shot is awarded if a foul takes place when a player is "in possession and control (or, in the judgment of the Referee, clearly would have obtained possession and control of the puck)" whereas the IIHF rules don't have that last caveat. So when Wick was tripped by that dummy Knight (who could have easily beaten her if she had gone to the left instead of trying to skate through her) the puck was a good four feet ahead of her. Penalty, no shot. Quote
-TSS- Posted February 21, 2014 Report Posted February 21, 2014 I guess that for Canadian curling-players the Olympic qualification is often a tougher competition than the Olympics itself. Quote
waldo Posted February 21, 2014 Report Posted February 21, 2014 I guess that for Canadian curling-players the Olympic qualification is often a tougher competition than the Olympics itself. there's a somewhat elaborate seeding system for a final trial that occurred in Dec 2013 (8 seeds total, per gender)... two of those seed positions were determined by a pre-trial event held in Nov 2013... the remaining six reflect on a cumulative points ranking that is determined over an assortment of events held in previous years. about the Finnish game later today with Sweden... any prediction? What's the country "buzz"/interest? Quote
-TSS- Posted February 21, 2014 Report Posted February 21, 2014 The game starts at 2pm our time, so it's not going to be very productive two hours at the working places. Quote
Black Dog Posted February 21, 2014 Report Posted February 21, 2014 Sweden onto gold medal game. Tough one for the Finns who were missing some key players. Hopefully they can take bronze against the U.S. Quote
-TSS- Posted February 21, 2014 Report Posted February 21, 2014 Indeed, Finland is just not good enough to win 2-3 tough games in a row, which is needed in a tournament. Quote
guyser Posted February 21, 2014 Report Posted February 21, 2014 1 down 1 game to go and hope its a Gold Medal performance for Canada. I guess Amherst Bar can now begin serving Canadian beer again and be gracious about the loss. Quote
-TSS- Posted February 21, 2014 Report Posted February 21, 2014 I'll be cheering for Canada too. Not because I would be a typical Finn who is bitter, envious and angry at the Swedes performing well, on the contrary, but the Swedes have really not been convincing in this tournament thus far at all. It's the fault of the competition-format as well. If they beat Canada they are worthy champions. Quote
Black Dog Posted February 21, 2014 Report Posted February 21, 2014 Oh my god, Canada barely squeaked by the U.S. they have no chance against Sweden amiright? Seriously, that was a dominant two-way performance. If Chris Kunitz wasn't a complete anchor, the score would have been much more lopsided. Quote
-TSS- Posted February 21, 2014 Report Posted February 21, 2014 Sweden winning this tournament would bring the very sport into disrepute. Quote
