Different interpretation of the word "hysterical", I suppose.

A forum on gender topics would be a great idea. A forum on issues of interest to women would be as good an idea as a forum on issues of interest to men.

If we had a half dozen women here suggesting topics about canadian politics, do you think they would bring up ships, guns etc. Let's get real.

Why don't you just start the threads you want and title them "from a woman's perspective"? Do women want inclusion and equality, or segregation? Your choice.

If we can have a languishing "political philosophy" section, then there's no reason we couldn't have a women and politics section.

slippery slope! Slippery slope! My gawd man, don't give them a foot-hold!!!

Good grief. Can we not expand on the topics here that may relate to women. Come on guys. Give it up!

Agreed!

You have a very valid point and if the moderators ignore your request I would call that proof that they are acting in a sexist manner!

Stay vocal!!!

Ok since i'm in this thread.

I have suggested a heading dedicated to SEX!

Ya you read that right, SEX!

This is like a topic everyone hear is itching to talk about but it's too taboo!

When a status update is posted that is related to a very active thread, I would like to see it merged into the thread.

That is technically impossible to do.

i did not receive any response from Charles or Greg. However, as a woman, I would like some kind of recognition that they are looking towards introoducing more topics related to women in politics. We do have thoughts towards progressive politics.

Sorry to disappoint but female subsections at MLW are not likely going to be approved by Greg --- that is just my read on him. I sent him a message to look at this suggestion. I await with you guys for a response. However, if it was solely up to me, I would have none of it. As a man, I have no idea how to explain that.

Nevertheless, your statement is confusing. You want us to be "looking towards introducing more topics yadda yadda" but you know that moderating staff are not introducing ANY topics. So, what exactly do you want us to do?

We could create a 3rd level subforum on every section with "--- from a Woman's angle" tacked onto it. Is that what you want?

I have suggested a heading dedicated to SEX!

How about this:

Gender and Sexual Issues

as a middle ground? I would endorse that. It could be a grab-bag that could possibly fulfill WCR's request.

The next question would be Where do we put it? It could be tacked on at the top of the Off-Topic Discussions, I suppose. I am not too sure where else it would conveniently go. Any suggestions?

=====

I would like to see an extra sub-section in the News and Help called Merged which would list all of the sister threads that were merged into other threads. The list would natively contain direct hyper-links to the now-extant Opening Post of the merged thread.

SHORT VERSION: If your thread gets nixed, you can look directly at this section for your OP and snap-back to where it is located after the merge.

NOTA BENE: This is possible with the forum software as it stands right now. It does not require any tinkering or hacking or extra plugins.

We do not have time for a meeting of the flat earth society.

I agree. This is a debate site and I can't see sex ever becoming a common debate topic. So Off-topic sounds logical.

I also like your suggestion of expanding to include gender. I would hope this would attract alternative lifestyles such as gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgender posters. That would add a huge dynamic to this site!

To create a special women issues section implies that there are issues that relate only to women and not to men. That is a mistake. It also implies that there are issues that women have more knowledge of and right to comment on than men.

Why not then create special sections for issues relating to: men, visible minorities, posters under 16 years old, mothers, fathers, gays etc.?

Note - For those expecting a response from Big Guy: I generally do not read or respond to posts longer then 300 words nor to parsed comments.

No it doesn't.

I think a men's issues forum is an idea, but there are simply fewer of those to be debated in the grand scope of things. You could debate them in a gender issues forum.

There are also issues for all of the other groups you mentioned, but not as high profile.

Perhaps you might give an example of a "woman's issue" that relates only to women and not to men or an issue on which women have more knowledge of and right to comment on than men.

Fertility issues. women's health and exercise, women's fashions/clothing/make up/fashion accesories/jewels.

I'm sure there's a freekin ton of things!

The best people to answer that question are women really, not me are other men. So I apologize if I may sound shallow to the other female members here.

You are the one who said that women's issues would not relate to men.

If that is what I said it certainly was not what I meant. To decide that an issue is a woman's issue or a man's issue already presumes a attitude based on gender.

That is a mistaken presumption.

I also suggest that "Fertility issues. women's health and exercise, women's fashions/clothing/make up/fashion accesories/jewels." are issues that relate to both sexes and both sexes have an opinion and knowledge of them. Any health issue is as important to a spouse or partner and the fashion and cosmetics industry is dominated by males.

I agree with GhostHacked, post the topic and let people respond - do not try to prepackage a topic based on personal perceptions.

There is no need to have a special place for women's issues. Just post the topics and people will respond or not. Just as it happens with other threads.

Agreed. I actually am able to talk to women in real life, so I'm sure I can on here.

There's a thread on abortion that's hot right now. There's plenty on Islam. There's this thread. There are threads on foreign workers and Aboriginal issues. All could be described as Women's issues and they didn't need their own forum.

As for the existence of Women's issues: As I said in another post, I have a wife and two daughters. There are no women's issues that are not my issues.

Ya but where? Under what heading?

Is there a fashion heading?

I believe there is a health heading, so that would cover some female concerns. But I'm sure if some women were to come up with some subjects, MLW's list of heading would be incapable of covering everything.

This isn't the first time the issue of where to post a thread has come up either.

I feel the best solution would be to expand on the number of headings.

So we're saying the women's issues do not exist then ?

They all exist in the mind of the individual. If you think that some issue is a women's issue, then it is - for you. If you think it is a men's issue, then it is - for you. To pre-empt that subjective evaluation by creating categories only displays a personal position.
