Boges Posted January 18, 2013 Report Posted January 18, 2013 I don't really mind that he doped. You pretty much had to be a doper to be successful in that sport back then. What bugs me is that he sued people and trashed anyone who knew the truth. Now that his life has come crashing down, he comes clean. Will he give money back to the people and organizations that he sued? I saw some of the interview last night and he seemed contrite. But he sort of had to be. People are going to be coming after him now. Quote
Michael Hardner Posted January 18, 2013 Report Posted January 18, 2013 He's the poster boy for centric media. They are elevated beyond the level of mortals to a point where they are said to possess inspirational qualities that all of us should have. Many of them turn into aberrations - addicted to fame, or the trappings of fame - and we watch their wretchedness as they try to stand in the middle of a smaller and smaller spotlight. We should be nipping this one in the bud before it starts - if we don't build them up then we won't have to suffer through the inevitable celebrity confessions, rehabs and redemptions. Quote Looks like someone has a new patronizing catch phrase ! Michael Hardner
GostHacked Posted January 18, 2013 Report Posted January 18, 2013 After admitting to 20 years of doping and going after who say otherwise proves he is a liar and a deceitful person. Sure many dope in sports, and we should be completely against all this doping in sports. It does not make the sport better in one bit in my opinion. Also for a guy who garnered so much sympathy and support during his battle with cancer, this is a slap in the face to all those who supported him during that time. I do get taking steroids or other things to help him through the cancer, and he should not have been able to compete until after a certain time when he can get off the drugs that helped him through the cancer. Quote
Boges Posted January 18, 2013 Author Report Posted January 18, 2013 He admitted to doping before cancer. Quote
sharkman Posted January 18, 2013 Report Posted January 18, 2013 Oddly enough, I felt a little bit bad for Sheryl Crow after hearing this, he's even more of a jerk and egomaniac than I realized. And the "everyone was doing it so I did too" is not a defense, it's a pathetic excuse made by someone who's trying to avoid the consequences of his actions. He's not sorry, he's in damage control mode. Quote
Mighty AC Posted January 18, 2013 Report Posted January 18, 2013 (edited) I always knew that if I stuck to my dreams I would one day have as many Tour De France wins as Lance. Anyway, this public apology makes me wonder how long it will be until his next book will be released. He will be sued by the various newspapers that he sued for publishing doping stories. That will eat up maybe 10 or so of his 100 million. I'm sure his next book deal will offset that loss. Topaz Posted January 18, 2013 Report Posted January 18, 2013 I, for one never believe he wasn't using drugs and one American said the other day that Armstrong was the ringleader of the doping, so his excuse that everyone was doing it, yes, its true because he was pushing it. So one has to wonder about others who have won over the years like Armstrong, like the US guy in swimming?? Quote
Boges Posted January 18, 2013 Author Report Posted January 18, 2013 You mean Michael Phelps? Since the Ben Johnson days, you have to question any great athlete if they did what they did clean. Anyone think Usain Bolt is clean? Two of the greatest baseball players in history didn't get into the Hall of Fame last week because they were suspected of using drugs. Quote
guyser Posted January 18, 2013 Report Posted January 18, 2013 Anyone think Usain Bolt is clean? Yea....I do. Kind of dumb but I hope and hold out he is clean. Two of the greatest baseball players in history didn't get into the Hall of Fame last week because they were suspected of using drugs. There is the opinion that Pete Rose and others may well be in the HoF if they were not such gigantic assholes. Quote
Boges Posted January 18, 2013 Author Report Posted January 18, 2013 Ty Cobb is in the Hall of Fame and he was a textbook jerk. Pete Rose is only being snubbed because he bet on baseball and denied it. Perhaps he should get an interview with Oprah. Getting into the HOF is completely subjective, writers vote people in. There is not subjective standard to getting someone in. Their records are still on the books, so why don't they credit for what they did? There was no testing for those drugs then so technically they weren't breaking the rules. People used amphetamines in baseball all the time back in the day but they're banned now. Quote
Wilber Posted January 18, 2013 Report Posted January 18, 2013 Yet Roger Maris is not in the Hall of Fame. His crime was breaking Ruth's record. Hall's of fame are over rated. Quote "Never trust a man who has not a single redeeming vice". WSC
Boges Posted January 18, 2013 Author Report Posted January 18, 2013 Mark Mcgwire has no hope of seeing the HofF either. For years there was an asterix next to Maris' record because he did it in 162 games. Quote
guyser Posted January 18, 2013 Report Posted January 18, 2013 Ty Cobb is in the Hall of Fame and he was a textbook jerk. Yet that is all he was. If he were a doper and an asshole, maybe he wouldnt be. Pete Rose is only being snubbed because he bet on baseball and denied it. No, Pete is an asshole and would have been in had he not denied denied denied as he did. He was begged to offer apologies but he refused. Quote
Mighty AC Posted January 18, 2013 Report Posted January 18, 2013 Yet Roger Maris is not in the Hall of Fame. His crime was breaking Ruth's record. Hall's of fame are over rated.Roger Maris was a fairly mediocre player who had one exceptional year. He really shouldn't be in the HOF. Guest Posted January 19, 2013 Report Posted January 19, 2013 Mark Mcgwire has no hope of seeing the HofF either. For years there was an asterix next to Maris' record because he did it in 162 games. Nor Bonds, Clemens or Sosa, imo. Of course, there are probably a lot more, but those four are the highest profile so far. Now, I will be upset if The Big Unit doesn't get in first time. He hasn't tested positive, has he? Quote
Wilber Posted January 19, 2013 Report Posted January 19, 2013 Roger Maris was a fairly mediocre player who had one exceptional year. He really shouldn't be in the HOF. Still, he held the biggest record in baseball for 38 years and but for steriods, still might. Quote "Never trust a man who has not a single redeeming vice". WSC
guyser Posted January 20, 2013 Report Posted January 20, 2013 So I watched part 2 of Lance's interview. Laughable if he thinks for a minute people believe him. I doped all thru my wins but didnt dope the last two years. (or since 2005) Well Lance, I can do simple math , and I also know a little about statutes of limitations.....and the verdict is in, You are still lying to yourself. Oh...and to your kids. Quote
Shady Posted January 21, 2013 Report Posted January 21, 2013 Who cares? The guy raised millions of dollars for cancer research. That far out weights a stupid bicycle race. Quote
Boges Posted January 21, 2013 Author Report Posted January 21, 2013 (edited) Who cares? The guy raised millions of dollars for cancer research. That far out weights a stupid bicycle race. Moonlight Graham Posted January 21, 2013 Report Posted January 21, 2013 Yet Roger Maris is not in the Hall of Fame. His crime was breaking Ruth's record. Hall's of fame are over rated. Roger Maris didn't have a HOF career, He had one great season and a few other good ones. He only hit 275 career homeruns, 1325 hits, retired when he was 33, not even close to HOF numbers. Shady Posted January 21, 2013 Report Posted January 21, 2013 Actually Live strong is a cancer awareness organisation. And no one would have given any money if it wasn't for the stupid bicycle race. So? Cancer awareness and the money raised trumps cheating on a stupid bicycle race. Get over it. Quote
Boges Posted January 21, 2013 Author Report Posted January 21, 2013 OK so what about all the people Lance Armstrong sued. He tried to ruin people's lives for simply stating the truth. The man is an absolute scumbag. He could go away with all his money and no one would care, but he's doing this interview to try and get back into competition. He wants to do Triathlons but he can't because he's a known cheater that's been denying it aggressively. Quote
GostHacked Posted January 21, 2013 Report Posted January 21, 2013 So? Cancer awareness and the money raised trumps cheating on a stupid bicycle race. Get over it. And this is the reason I say 'LIVEWRONG' !!!!! Performance drugs are banned in these sports, he did not play by the rules and now lost all his titles. Was it worth it? The integrity of the cyclist that is Lance, also shows his integrity for everything else, including after being cured of cancer. His integrity as a person on the whole is in question in my view. guyser Posted January 21, 2013 Report Posted January 21, 2013 The man is an absolute scumbag. The wolves are coming out to howl about his lies now. He is a scumbag , and its funny shady doesnt get it. Quote
