When he speaks there's no substance. Of course he did a stint as a teacher in drama class.

So far I have difficulty taking him seriously. His platitudes sound like high school speak.

His qualities as a leader are that of a political poseur more suited to the role of soubrette at best.

I predict that those that fawn on him will wonder why in a few months.

I disliked his father, but somehow I can't dislike him. I would like to shake him and see if his curls jiggle. I would suggest he again put on his Three Musketeers facial adornment.

I think he's cute and every bit as pretty as his mom.

Would you go to him on his c.v. and utterances for anything in the way of a meaningful opinion on..oh  say.. The politics of division and our foreign policy? Or on the future of the Liberal party ?

Or much of anything else.

Personally I like this caution..

"“Whatever you do, don’t look into his eyes,” warned a colleague before I headed out to cover Justin Trudeau’s first cross-country stop in his bid to become leader of the Liberal Party of Canada.

“Why?” I asked. “Will I be hypnotized?”

“No, the song Dream Weaver will start playing,” joked my friend, referring to scenes from the 1992 movie Wayne’s World, in which that hit song would play every time Wayne gazed upon a particular “babe” he fancied"

What are your guesses at his chances of becoming the next Federal Liberal Party leader?

I think that once the tinsel settles, the odds are not in his favor by less than 50%

I wonder if Harper would like to see him win, or Mulcair for that matter.

Would he lead them to a new beginning?

Or, to a theatric Shakespearian tragedy?

Fuddle duddle!

During every election campaign Harper poses in cowboy getup and full makeup. If the current PM can win as a conservative while looking like one of the Village People, I don't think Trudeau's look will hurt him too much.

It will be his complete lack of experience and no policy or platform that will have Trudeau crumble.

Harper could pose with KD-Lang in matching outfits for all i cared... That Steve Harper guy had got the plan and the know how.

I dunno. No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the Canadian electorate. It might well be that a pretty face, nice hair, and charm will prove more important than anything else. We know the media will get excited about him, for they already have. He's photogenic, and a Trudeau. Yes, the media is shallow. And yes, so is the attention span of the Canadian electorate. I could see him winning.

See? And he hasn't even articulated any particular ideas, thoughts or philosophies. We don't really know where he stands on anything, or what his policies might be. The people who said they'd vote for him were simply responding to him being pretty.

I think papa Pierre was the worst PM Canada's ever had, but his son has taken steps already to acknowledge his father's failings. People have already started tearing him up after a few speeches, but let's wait and see what his policies are. He doesn't have to be brilliant for me to consider him. He just has to REALLY not be like his dad.

I'm disheartened by this. I hate to hope for his failure, but there doesn't seem to be any other way out at this point.

Looks only go so far. Once he opens his mouth it seems to start going all downhill. Trudeau has little knowledge of how the world works, compared to Harper or Obama his intellectual chops are lightweight. He needs far more experience, and needs to read more books in the non-fiction section.

Depends on how you define failure, Michael. As I've said before, no one should expect Justin to put the Liberals back in power. It won't happen!

However, he just might save their sorry butts! The Liberal Party is fading fast. It is entirely possible that it could disappear.

Justin could offer enough excitement to reverse the slide over the cliff. He might even win back another 10 or 20 seats! At that point, his party would have some momentum and be far more attractive for better candidates that COULD be competitive!

A rejuvenated Liberal Party would likely take seats away from the NDP much more than the Tories. There would be a break from the negative legacy of Chretien and Adscam. I'm not saying that the Liberals would automatically become again the Natural Governing Party but they would once again be a contender.

Young Justin doesn't have to become PM to be a winner!

Goes without saying really.

Beaten by a girlie boy. Which I suppose doesnt make him (JT) a girlie boy would it?

Wouldn't it also mean that all Conservatives are automatically as gay as Patrick Brazeau?

It stands to reason given how often my views on things automatically mean I'm the equal of Pol Pot, Hitler, Khadr and so on and so on. It's just the way of the world, around here at least.

Do you forget how the Conservatives got into power?

By not releasing full platforms or backing up any policies with plans...

They just borderline slandered everyone else without substantiating anything of theirs.

Ideology does not make good policy. Good policy comes from an analysis of options, comparison of options and selection of one option that works best in the current situation. This option is often a compromise between ideologies.

Seems to be working for Mitt Romney too, as everyone is hailing how well he did in the debate.

Realy? When i spent time mulling over my decision to leave the Liberal crowd,, I spend quite a bit of time checking out thier platform.. It was right there in plan sight (On their web-site even!!!).

I think your reasoning may be kind of "skewed" lets say.. If they were into all of this "slander" and they managed thier first minority... well, wouldnt you think its odd that they kept growing and GROWING till they pulled off a majority? Is it still "slander" today? Wat the last platform based on the ECONOMY, Long-gun, Immigration reforn etc etc not clear enough?

Damn those slanderous majorities...

No matter how one feels about one of the federal parties, WE, Canadians must keep the three party going for the simple reason of CHOICE. Even though Harper has a dislike for the Liberals, as he used to belong to the party, he kinda like a reform smoker, becomes really nasty towards smoking. It seems he doing whatever he can as PM to reduced the parties to two. The longer Harper and the Tories stay in power the more, more Canadians are waking up and finding what this party is all about. I wonder how all those people in western Canada, especially feel about the Tory party with the tainted meat and many getting sick and this being the SECOND time its happened on THEIR watch.

Hmmm,, Looks like hes "Trending" in the posotive direction.. Upwards and with more seats each election.. Yes, "the more Canadians are waking up"..

Tainted meat? Seems the Meat Inspection Union workers dropped the ball here.. And Im astounded that the "Mad Cow" "thingty" has made it to the CBC? Paul Martin (I think he was Liberal) dropped the ball MASSIVELY and to a far greater extent than this "Scandal". I hope your aware that Japan, China, Taiwan, Mexico, and South Korea remain closed TO THIS DAY for Canadian Beef due to this collosal Screw-up.... THAT is STILL an issue for the west and FAR greater an issue today.

Ohh yea, we can just forget about that.....

Many politicians engage in this same practice; captivating and inspiring but mostly insubstantial oratory. I find it to be a turn-off; an insult to my intelligence. But, it is a way to both emotionally uplift those who're already dedicated followers and to attract as many from the mushy, undecided middle as possible.
