Guest Derek L Posted July 15, 2012 Report Posted July 15, 2012 I thought you might like it. Old 8mm I guess. After watching it a second time, with some pausing and a brief reference the other two Sea Kings, RCN # 4010 (later Stinger (12)410) and RCN # 4060 (Stinger (12)406 have been outed…………Stinger 410 was a part of the first Persian Excursion and is still flying. As to Stinger 406, she was fitted with a FLIR sometime in the 90s (after I went West), has been to the Gulf, and is now with 406 squadron, training the next generation. As to the Trackers the video mentions a Caribbean cruise in ‘65, which after just getting off the horn with my father, I learned he was posted ashore with VU 32 squadron (Training and utility), hence missing that cruise and packed it in later that year………As to the Trackers themselves, I’ve been assured he’s probably flown most of 880 squadron’s Trackers, in both the left and right seat…….. I love the sound of those piston Trackers. They were a very common sight (along with the Conair A-26s) around YXS most Summers. Not a Tracker...but i recall it was an excellent drop. Better angle... Guest Derek L Posted July 15, 2012 Report Posted July 15, 2012 (edited) What we’ll likely replace the Auroras with: Boeing P-8 The per plane cost will likely be double what we’ll end up paying for the F-35 & Cyclone. And not to be out done by Boeing, Lockheed is offering a cheaper alternative: This might not actually be a bad idea………….Common airframe with the J-Hercs in service with the RCAF, which would translate into operational & support savings………Can be modified to be a recipient of aerial refuelling, hence an increase of range, which could also be extended with similar mods as the USCG’s aircraft……….We already operate our current and past Hercules aircraft from rough gravel strips in the arctic……..The C-130J would also make a suitable replacement for FWSAR, which would further compound the savings……….Lockheed might actually have another winner here. westguy Posted July 19, 2012 Report Posted July 19, 2012 You can't make this stuff up. Yet again, Canada's procurement of rotary winged aircraft is going to crash and burn in grand style: "This is an example of how procurement can go badly wrong. This is the worst procurement in the history of Canada, including the $500-million cancellation costs that are attached to the Maritime helicopter program and then the costs of further maintenance to fly 50-year-old helicopters. They're going to go right out of aviation service and into the museum in Ottawa. And that's not a joke." http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/story/2012/07/10/ns-helicopter-deal-mackay.html What is it about helicopters that vexes Canada so? And that’s the way it was……….Our illustrious former leader, Pierre Elliot Trudeau, just prior to winning the Liberal leadership (and as Justice Minister) was the best at obtaining pork……We over purchased on the CF-5 Freedom Fighter, which just happened to be produced in the neighbouring riding as PETs…….Funny that the RCAF only wanted ~60-70 F-4E, but got instead over 130 Freedom Fighters, of which 1/3rd weren’t needed a put into storage on completion………AFAIK, we still have a portion of the later upgraded ones in storage in southern Ontario.
