overthere Posted September 18, 2015 Report Posted September 18, 2015 That was not an easy catch It was not a difficult catch either. It is a routine infield drill, over the shoulder catches. it was totally in shallow right field that is totally not relevant to the infield fly rule. Balls hit to shallow outfield are still subject to the rule. But... I checked and the call or non-call is not subject to appeal. It is one of the things I love about baseball. It is so fucking complex and laden with rules and interpretations of rules. It's like chess. I wish that I could select camera angles at home so I could watch the real game, which is incredibly subtle. They show only the pitcher catcher hitter runner stuff. They never show the little adjustments and play away from the play, which alters nearly with every pitch and shifting situation. Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!
overthere Posted September 19, 2015 Report Posted September 19, 2015 4.5 game lead over Yankees now. The coffin lid is not yet nailed down, but the hammer is poised. Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!
overthere Posted September 21, 2015 Report Posted September 21, 2015 and 2.5 now, Not So Fast. The Yankee series starting tonight matters now, and the Wankees have all the momentum at the moment..... That'[s baseball, it can turn around that fast..... Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!
RB Posted September 22, 2015 Report Posted September 22, 2015 4 wins in a row...quick, everybody jump back on the bandwagon...... yep I am with this one "go Jays go" Quote

overthere Posted September 22, 2015 Report Posted September 22, 2015 the win last night may have been the biggest one of the season. A few of the Jays are looking sluggish and lost at the plate: Donaldson, Pillar, Colabello are examples. But others are starting to show some grit: Goins, Smoak , Navarro and the guy that they really need both sides of the ball: Russell Martin. He is a really key player on that team. Boges Posted September 24, 2015 Report Posted September 24, 2015 It really is shocking the the second best starter on this team is Stroman even after missing most of the season. At this point it's Stroman, Price and Dickey for the playoffs and then flip a coin between Buerhle and Estrada. Quote
overthere Posted September 24, 2015 Report Posted September 24, 2015 Oh, I would take Estrada for sure and save the wear and tear on a coin. In what order? Mine would be Price, Stroman, Estrada then Dickey. And Dickey would be on a much shorter leash than Gibbons normally employs. Gibbons will have a tough time telling any veteran that they aren't playing or are way down the pecking order though. Jays might have sealed the deal last night, 3.5 games lead with 10 left to play is tough. We shall not speak of the unspeakable: 1987 or 3.5 game leads with a week to go in the season. Boges Posted September 28, 2015 Report Posted September 28, 2015 Buerhle may have played himself out of the starting lineup during the playoffs yesterday. What a way to finish the home schedule though, walkoff by Donaldson. I don't think it's too early to discuss this. Do the Jays want the Yankees as a Wildcard if they win the overall AL title or do they want the Rangers? The Rangers played them very tough in August. Quote

I would take the Yankees, assuming they win the one game wild card playoff All teams are good, but the Jays are inside the Wanks heads. But the Jays are not liklely to meet the Rangers in the first round as the Rangers will probably win their division It may be Astros vs Yankees in the wild card. I like the Jays chances against the Stros too, who have a terrible road record. And it is not just the last game that gets Buehrle into the bullpen. You cannot help but be uneasy with how hard he gets hit often- he has dodged many bullets this season but now the 85 mph fastball is getting hit into gaps. Dickey too, sometimes. Boges Posted September 29, 2015 Report Posted September 29, 2015 If the Jays win the East but don't take first overall from KC they'll play Texas. Assuming they win the West. What a win against Baltimore tonight. Down 3-1 most of the game then they come back to tie in the 8th and win again in the 9th. Looks like the magic number will be 2. Quote
Boges Posted September 30, 2015 Report Posted September 30, 2015 (edited) What a day for Jays fans. They have 2 shots to win the AL East. It'll be awesome watching that second game if they clinch in the first one. Champagne in the Dugout? Edited September 30, 2015 by Boges Quote

Black Dog Posted October 2, 2015 Report Posted October 2, 2015 Longest playoff drought in North American sports is officially over! Dude, they clinched the playoffs almost week ago. They're out of the wildcard now, though. Still have a shot at the top of the AL, or they would if they didn't keep trotting out the B team. Hope they go for it in these last few games against Tampa because home field advantage would be massive. Quote

Hope they go for it in these last few games against Tampa because home field advantage would be massive. I didn't really consider the Wildcard spot as making the playoffs, I guess officially it is though. It's simply a play-inn game to get into the playoffs though. Gibbons was critical of anyone bitching about them putting in the Scrubs for the last two games of the series. He said that the players have been playing hard and deserved 2 games of rest after clinching. They may have played yesterday if it was a night game but they moved the game up to Noon because of Hurricane Joaquin Phoenix, everyone was hungover. They still effectively have a one game lead on the Royals with the tie-breaker. The Royals have to play the Twins, who still have something to play for, while the Jays get the last place Rays. If they can't win at least 2 of 3 against the Rays mostly playing regulars, then perhaps that's a reason for concern. David Price also isn't going to start until Thursday. Big Guy Posted October 2, 2015 Report Posted October 2, 2015 Where is the fine line between fighting to get home field advantage and taking the chance of losing a key player to injury? I did watch the Jays B team playing while the starting squad was nursing their hangovers. Waste of time watching with these lineups. Boges Posted October 2, 2015 Report Posted October 2, 2015 Where is the fine line between fighting to get home field advantage and taking the chance of losing a key player to injury? I did watch the Jays B team playing while the starting squad was nursing their hangovers. Waste of time watching with these lineups. They'll try again this weekend. The second half this team was able to put together is unprecedented. I actually didn't mind seeing some of the younger players get a shot at some playing time. Jonathan Diaz, Dalton Pompey and Matt Hague all look like future contributors. Quote
overthere Posted October 2, 2015 Report Posted October 2, 2015 The guy with what looked like the worst hangover was Gibbons himself. His eyes looked like two peeholes in a snowbank... He was barely awake on the bench. Three pitchers we don't need to see until 2016 at the earliest: Loup, Delabar and Hutchison. Hopeless. The Jays have not played well in Tampa very often. Hope that changes. Home field through the WS is an advantage, and it makes plenty of $$$ for Rogers. Here is hoping Tulo gets back on the field now. The Jays are better with him for sure, he is a better fielder than anybody else down the middle. Even if he does not hit well he is likely better at the plate than Pennington, and is certainly better defensively. And here is somehting I never thought I'd say: we need Goins bat in the game. He is also our best 2nd baseman. The Jays are going to have a tough time next year figuring out what to do with Goins vs Travis..... I love our defence with Tulo in the game. But I still don't love the pitching........ And I don't agree with what Gibby said about starting Buerhle today and may again on Sunday(!). All to get him to 200 innings. Bah. We need to finish first overall, and finish strong, not give a senior a good sendoff. . The team has 3 days off before Thursday, why does Price need 11 days rest? And who pitches in the ALDS? Price, Stroman and Estrada are my picks. But it will likely be Price Dickey and Stroman in that order. Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!
Boges Posted October 2, 2015 Report Posted October 2, 2015 Tulo is in the lineup tonight. Not sure why Price gets 11 days off either, but he's cool with it. The last few years he played late games before the playoffs. He said a new strategy might be better. If they end up playing the Yankees then certainly let Dickey do game 2. He's been one of the better pitchers all second half and has owned the Yanks this year. Buerhle as a second lefty out of the pen instead of Loupe is a great option. He can also be used in case a starter struggles early. Quote
Boges Posted October 5, 2015 Report Posted October 5, 2015 So who's panicking that they lost 4 of their last 5 games of the season after clinching? Only one of the games were a huge disappointment. That blown save by Osuna. Now the team gets 3 days of real rest before taking on a Texas Rangers team that the Jays played pretty well this season. Quote
Big Guy Posted October 5, 2015 Report Posted October 5, 2015 Looking forward to the second guessers if the Jays continue in the series and meet KC in the final of that series at KC. Boges Posted October 5, 2015 Report Posted October 5, 2015 (edited) It's all assuming they face the Royals and the series goes 7 and they lose. Edited October 5, 2015 by Boges Quote
