overthere Posted June 9, 2015 Report Posted June 9, 2015 Yeah, whatever. It's a weak division. I've heard all this crap for over 2 decades now. Win or go home. They need to clean house with management. They could start tomorrow with Gibbons. Nobody would notice if he went back to early retirement in Texas. Their drafting and player development record is also brutal. Is it still too early to state who got fleeced in the big Marlins trade? Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!

Is it still too early to state who got fleeced in the big Marlins trade? Yeah player development has been horrid. Next season their starting lineup could be Stroman, Osuna, Hutch, Norris and Sanchez. All players under 25 that have been in the system from the start. Alex A has actually done well not panicking and ensuring the team has a bright future. He should keep his job for the Josh Donaldson trade alone. Quote
Boges Posted June 10, 2015 Report Posted June 10, 2015 That's 2 walkoff wins in their last 3 games. Have to be good to be lucky. Then again an EE moonshot in the 9th isn't exactly luck. Quote

Boges Posted June 11, 2015 Report Posted June 11, 2015 They are back to where they started, and the task is the same: win 2 out of 3 for the next 100 games. As fans that's all that matters. It'll keep me interested. They aren't out of it. It's sad that in an 8-game streak that they only made up one game on the Yankees. Quote
overthere Posted June 11, 2015 Report Posted June 11, 2015 It'll keep me interested. Yep, it certainly helps. Mind you I'm also an Oilers fan and get uneasy when my team is still a contender 1/3 of the way through the season. What is going on here? Shouyd I be afraid? Quote Science too hard for you? Boges Posted June 17, 2015 Report Posted June 17, 2015 (edited) So you have this series against the only team with worse pitching than the Jays. They put up 13 twice. But the Jays also conceded 5 or more each game. Then you go to New York and the pitching staff concedes 3 runs both games and lose. In what world do the Jays lose if they hold a team to 3 runs or less? It proves that this team can't beat good pitching which will mean they are toast the minute they enter the post-season. . . if they ever do. Monday was the 11th blown save this year. They need bullpen help. I'm not confident that they can win a game in the 9th with any less than a 3 run lead. Rogers needs to greenlight a Jonathan Papplebon deal ASAP! overthere Posted June 17, 2015 Report Posted June 17, 2015 Yep it is pretty late already to answer a couple of pitching questions. like: 1) who is the closer? and 2) if the Jays did somehow make the playoffs, who would be your ace, the guy who starts the first game? I think they'd have to draw straws and just go random. Their baserunning boners hurt them againstt the Mets. In the meantime, they are pretty entertaining. I doubt that anybody wants to play them- too unpredictable and they have some scary bats. I wish they could find a solid lefty batter to stick into the string of right handed power in their order. One thing I like is that the Jays have a couple of candidates to replace Reyes at the top of the order. Noen of them are quite ready yet, but Reyes is bound to hit the DL again soon. Pilar has cooled a bit but has some tools, Travis will be back and could do it, Goins is coming around at the dish too..... but the pitching..... yikes. Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!

Boges Posted June 18, 2015 Report Posted June 18, 2015 even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while. That's 3 games with scores under 3 runs. Now the Mets may have a crappy offence but they're still first in the NL East. Imagine what this Jays team would do playing the Phillies like the Orioles are getting to do. The pitching IS improving. It's hard to be worse than they were at the beginning of the season. Hutch could have stayed in longer but the lead was only 1-0. It appears Delabar is back. Quote
overthere Posted June 18, 2015 Report Posted June 18, 2015 They could probably make the playoffs if their pitching improved to 'below average'. They also need to stop having baserunning brain cramps. Here's hoping. Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!
Boges Posted June 18, 2015 Report Posted June 18, 2015 They could probably make the playoffs if their pitching improved to 'below average'. They also need to stop having baserunning brain cramps. Here's hoping. Yeah Pillar screwed up one last night. Ran to third when Goins got the the Red Light. That cost a run. Quote
overthere Posted June 18, 2015 Report Posted June 18, 2015 Goins and Encarnacion in recent, close games that they lost too. Screwed up double steal, the guy on third did not seem aware it was happening. Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!
Boges Posted June 19, 2015 Report Posted June 19, 2015 Dickey's dad died Tuesday. He still pitched a pretty good game last night. Loved Pillar taking out a player at the knees to prevent a double play and allowing a run to score. Someone gave him a talking to about base running. Quote
overthere Posted June 19, 2015 Report Posted June 19, 2015 Pilar has played himself into a major league career this season. I did a rough count of the hitting pattern last night. The first four hitters(considered the big boppers usually) were one for fourteen. The five through nine hitters were a collective nine for fourteen. Opposing managers cannot combat that kind of production..... when they produce. The guy that is really making it happen for himsef is Goins. He has always been a fine defensive player, and he too is hitting his way into a MLB career. The Jays have had a hole at second base for a long time, and it is now Goins job to lose. It is actually kind of fortunate for Izturis that he is on long term DL now- he has lost his job. One thing the Jays may really benefit from with the recent run of wins- they have far more trade bait when shopping for pitching. They can afford to lose a bat- Colabello, Valencia, Smoak, and even guys like Pompey, Bautista, Navarro and Encarnacion get a bit more expendable when we have some depth at the plate. The Mets are a team with more pitching than hitting, the Giants another........ Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!
Boges Posted June 19, 2015 Report Posted June 19, 2015 (edited) Didn't mention Devon Travis in that post. Does he lose his job? If he can regain his stroke from April, his still a better option than Goins. Do you use Travis or Goins as trade bait? Mark DeRossa (former Jay now Broadcaster) said on the Fan590 that he could see the Jays trading Travis and Norris to San Diego for massive pitching help. Is that worth is? All this shows how little Spring Training means. The Jays started with Norris in the rotation, he's been sent down. They made Miguel Castro the Closer, he's been sent down. Dalton Pompey was the starting Centre Field, he's down to AA now. Travis was injured and Goins has filled in capably. Saunders was brought in for Left field, now a guy who was in a long-term minor leaguer is there. Colabello would be second in the batting title race if he had enough ABs to qualify. When you think about it, Osuna is the only youngster that's really completely panned out as expected. I'm still really excited at the prospect of a rotation with Osuna, Norris, Sanchez, Stroman and Hutch. Edited June 19, 2015 by Boges Quote
overthere Posted June 19, 2015 Report Posted June 19, 2015 When you think about it, Osuna is the only youngster that's really completely panned out as expected. That is better than usual performance for the Jays, who have had numerous numerous pitching prospects fizzle and die. Didn't mention Devon Travis in that post. Does he lose his job? Not necessarily, because he and Goins would make a decent middle infield- I do not have any faith that Reyes can sustain at SS. He'll be on the DL soon enouggh....Reyes has also had some real problems at shortstop- his range is subpar now already.... he could see the Jays trading Travis and Norris to San Diego for massive pitching help. Is that worth is? yes, definitely. The Jays have a playoff level offence- AA has to act now, he won't keep this group together beyond a year or so... Bautista is getting old, so is EE, Reyes is flaming out...Buehrle and Dickey cannot have much left in the tank... But sports radio is full of trades that never happen..... Big Guy Posted June 20, 2015 Report Posted June 20, 2015 How many total wins will the Jays need to make it to the playoffs? Quote Note - For those expecting a response from Big Guy: I generally do not read or respond to posts longer then 300 words nor to parsed comments.
Boges Posted June 20, 2015 Report Posted June 20, 2015 How many total wins will the Jays need to make it to the playoffs? At least 85 Quote
overthere Posted June 20, 2015 Report Posted June 20, 2015 the AL East is weak enough that 85 might win the division. It won't get a wild card spot though, which might take 90 to 95 wins. It's curious year, only the Cardinals have a dominant lead, all the other divisions are pretty tight so far. Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!
Boges Posted June 22, 2015 Report Posted June 22, 2015 (edited) The bullpen just pooched that entire weekend series. AA needs to fix this, Cecil cannot be this team's closer. Edited June 22, 2015 by Boges Quote
