overthere Posted August 6, 2014 Report Posted August 6, 2014 Well that was a statement game for both teams, with the Orioles supplying a spankfest on all levels. Hope the Jays can recover and at least be in the game. Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!
Boges Posted August 7, 2014 Report Posted August 7, 2014 Nice win last night but Lawrie is back on the DL. Brandon Morrow is starting to think he's soft. Quote
guyser Posted August 7, 2014 Report Posted August 7, 2014 Nice win last night but Lawrie is back on the DL.That sucks. But what a gem of a game Hutchison pitched. Now get Stroman doing the same (as he has) and Buerlhe back in and all of a sudden...things look good. If the damn bullpen was 80% of what they were a year ago, Orioles would be trailing us by more than 5 games. Quote

Lind might be back for the Detroit series. Let's hope he can last more than 3 innings. Quote

Let's hope he can last more than 3 innings. I doubt it. They dont want him facing three Cy's in a row. Watch for hij next week, or limited use if he comes early Quote
overthere Posted August 8, 2014 Report Posted August 8, 2014 Just what the Jays need: another guy who cannot hit lefty pitching. Lind is an astonishing .069 this season against lefties. Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!
Boges Posted August 8, 2014 Report Posted August 8, 2014 Melky is hurt now. The Baseball Gods are very cruel! Quote
guyser Posted August 8, 2014 Report Posted August 8, 2014 Melky is hurt now. The Baseball Gods are very cruel!sure are. Two terrific pitching gems and only one win to show for it. Lawrie, Melky, EE, Lind...suc ks but what can ya do? Other than hope the situation balances out for other teams. Usually does. Quote
overthere Posted August 8, 2014 Report Posted August 8, 2014 Happ was good, but Gonzalez was better. Baltimore has also had lots of injuries, but their pitching has carried them when their hitting has not. And team pitching- again- is where the Jays flounder compared to other good teams. Last night the Orioles bullpen was superb too, they just mowed the Jays down with little effort or concern.. Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!
overthere Posted August 9, 2014 Report Posted August 9, 2014 A crushing loss last night, and another pitching failure after our offence gave us enough to win. Hats off to Gibbons for playing small ball to get a few runs across on a fine Detroit starter. Jays are six back of Baltimore now and it is hard to see them catching up. The Yankees and Mariners are ahead of them in a wild card race the Jays owned just a week ago. September has come early. Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!
Big Guy Posted August 9, 2014 Report Posted August 9, 2014 I am getting tired of getting on and off the Jays bandwagon as are the rest of us.. I think I am just going to jog along side for the next couple of weeks and decided whether to jump on or to start looking for another wagon. Boges Posted August 11, 2014 Report Posted August 11, 2014 I hope Chad Jenkins gets credit for a quality start going 6 scoreless in the extra innings of a 19 inning game. Juan Fransisco is the least clutch player on that team. Quote
Boges Posted August 11, 2014 Report Posted August 11, 2014 Who thought putting a human's ashes on an artificial turf would be a good tribute to the life of said person? http://www.torontosun.com/2014/08/10/fan-spreads-step-brothers-ashes-at-blue-jays-game Major league baseball lore is dotted with famous curses and a healthy dose of superstition. But when life-long Blue Jays fan Rob Ouellette scattered some of his stepbrother’s ashes on the field of Rogers Centre during a game Friday, he said he didn’t intend to incur the wrath of the baseball gods. But the 32-year-old Windsor man’s tribute nearly had him feeling the wrath of team officials and Toronto Police, he said. It has also upset some fans who have accused him of putting a hex on the squad as it fights for a playoff spot. “If they don’t make the playoffs, I don’t want people blaming me,” Ouellette told the Toronto Sun. “Some people on Twitter said they weren’t going to make the playoffs because of me. I don’t want to be that guy.” Quote

The stats showed Detroit with 23 players left on base but had Jays with 43 left on base. Yes 43 - I replayed the summary to verify. It was 43. Is that possible? It is. 43/19 is 2.2, meaning they had 2 or more runners left on base each inning. Remember even if you score some runs you can still leave runners on base later on in the inning. You could also count the 3 runners left on base after Bautista won the game. Just about every inning I saw in extra innings, the Jays had a chance to score a run with runners on base with 2 out. Boges Posted August 30, 2014 Report Posted August 30, 2014 (edited) When you consider both the A's and the Tigers have actually taken a step back since their big trades I'm not sure if Alex A can be blamed here. I'd give him one more year. If next season is produces a similar result they'll have to rebuild anyway. I'm excited about the team's young pitchers for next year. Yes, he can be blamed and will be blamed. He spent a whole pile of Rogers money and got absolutely nothing back. Nothing back in the way of results, which is all that matters at this point. In pro sports, that means bye bye, or should mean bye bye. He was given the two major tools: money and time, and came up empty. There is no reason to prolong the mistake. Prospects, next year, blahblahblah. What will they rebuild with? Their drafting and development has been utterly dismal and their cupboard is nearly bare. Roster players are not looking so good now.... Dickey: mediocre on his better days Buehrle: exposed for what he is, a vet in sharp decline Hutchison: meh Happ: more meh Morrow: always hurt Lawrie: always hurt: Reyes: inconsistent and will cost a stunning $22M next year Cabrera: free agent and we won't be able to afford him Bautista: promised a winner four years ago, won't sign here again in his final year and will have to be traded. Lind: meh EE: looks solid Rasmus: not worth the money: the rest.... won't be enough. They are in danger of moving into Leafs territory... Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!

I'm angry and still waiting for meaningful games in September...but I agree with your comment here. Making moves at the deadline only make sense if you can get value. I think the Jays will drop their team ERA significantly next year. overthere Posted August 31, 2014 Report Posted August 31, 2014 I think the Jays will drop their team ERA significantly next year. Exactly how will they do that? Names please. And do not say Dickey, Happ, Morrow, Hutchison or Buerhle. Please. You can say Stroman, Sanchez, Cecil, and maybe, just maybe Janssen. Only one of those is a starter. And the Jays don't have much to trade that won't gut their team of what little young talent they actually have. They will probably get a starter for Bautista if they trade him early in the off season. When he signed four years ago, it was on the premise that AA would build a winner around his bat. Fail. He's gone. Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!
Boges Posted September 4, 2014 Report Posted September 4, 2014 First time they've won a series in Tampa since 2006. Then they go to Fenway where, I don't believe, they've lost a game all year. Then the Horawful Cubs comes to the Rogers Centre. This next week is set up to be a giant cock tease. Quote
