Shakeyhands Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 Actual safety concerns have caused cancellations before Chaney. A controversial event at the University of Ottawa featuring right-wing U.S. pundit Ann Coulter was canceled due to apparent safety concerns, after 200 students gathered in protest outside. Lawyer and political activist Ezra Levant, who was slated to speak before Coulter, broke the news to the half-filled auditorium in Marion Hall, after chaos at the registration table and a pulled fire alarm caused delays. “The police and the security have advised that it would be physically dangerous for Ann Coulter to proceed with this event and for others to come in,” Levant said. http://oncampus.macleans.ca/education/2010/03/23/coulters-u-of-o-event-canceled/ I'm pretty sure any anti-Israeli or anti- American would be welcomed by these hate groups with open arms. Probably even Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Seems to me there was more to the Coulter story but I can't quite recall... something about the Police not saying anything and it being her staff that made the call... anyone remember the details? Pretty sure we talked about it ad naseum here. Quote "They muddy the water, to make it seem deep." - Friedrich Nietzsche

GostHacked Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 I don't care if Canadians want to protest VP Cheney, but he should be able to speak in Canada without fear or threat of violence just to shut him up. Some of you guys wouldn't know free speech even if it bit you in the arse. Canada's charter of rights and freedoms apply to Canadians only. You want 'free speech', set Cheney up in one of the zones that was created when him and Bush were in office. Quote
Smallc Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 Canada's charter of rights and freedoms apply to Canadians only. I don't think that's true. There are some parts of it that say every Canadian, and some that say everyone. Quote

WWWTT Posted March 21, 2012 Report Posted March 21, 2012 Canada denies entry and threatens arrest of speakers with controversial views. Yes I believe this is true,if you're a left winger or Muslim/Islamic. If your a right winger or evangalist I think you're good to enter and speak freely.Unless of course if you can provide an link proving this wrong maybe? And as a side note Canadian law protects its citizens and landed immigrants,I'm not sure what Canadian rights do for non residents/citizens? WWWTT Quote Maple Leaf Web is now worth $720.00! stopstaaron Posted March 21, 2012 Report Posted March 21, 2012 I like your determination here man! WWWTT Thank you. I can't see how Cheneys speech was violated. Nobody banned him nor threatened violence upon him. Cheney has a lot of heart problemd and him being kept in a hotel for 7 hours again while people protest and fight with cops is not good for his health. Thats why he isn't coming. Too much stress. cybercoma Posted March 21, 2012 Report Posted March 21, 2012 Yes, he personally invaded another country and killed people. Typical rightwing response. You're all about personal responsibility, until it comes to the decisions your guys make. Here you suggest that leadership has no personal responsibility for their decisions and the consequences of them. Quote
