It's not the Leafs or Leaf fans fault that 80% of viewers live in the Eastern time zone. Quote

So it's for Leafs fans. The Canucks already have the toughest travel schedule in the league, now they can't even play their home games in their own time zone because of the Leaf weenies. No, it's not specifically for Leaf fans. CBC wants to have the most people possible watching the game. It's about ratings and advertising dollars. It's good business. As a Leaf fan, I couldn't care less what time they play the game in Vancouver. I'd still watch. Quote
Wilber Posted November 4, 2013 Report Posted November 4, 2013 Canucks home games against eastern division teams so far this year. Devils, Habs and Capitals. 7 PM. Wings. 7:30 PM. Leafs 4 PM. It's for the Leaf weenies. Quote "Never trust a man who has not a single redeeming vice". WSC

It's for the Leaf weenies. Nope. It's because more people on the east coast are interested in Leafs/Canucks than the others. Anyways, stop the whining already. Besides, perhaps law enforcement wanted more day light for after the game just in case Canuck fans decided to burn down the city again. Quote

That's why the Habs drew the late start in Denver in spite of it being Roy's first coaching game against his old team. It's all about the Leaf weenies. Didn't matter though, the ten year streak is still alive. Quote "Never trust a man who has not a single redeeming vice". WSC

But if its that important, start your own thread about the Canucks et al. If you refuse to acknowledge basic ratings and interest reasons, then that isn't my fault. For whatever reasons, the Leafs playing in Vancouver is a pretty big deal, especially to people in BC. When Vancouver comes to Toronto, nobody cares around here. That's just reality. Quote

Boges Posted November 4, 2013 Author Report Posted November 4, 2013 Of it was all about Leafs fans then the Oilers and Flames games would be held at 7. The Oilers game started at 9 but because the Flames game was a national game on TSN they started it at 8 in the East. The Leafs draw more viewers than the Nucks deal with it. Quote
Wilber Posted November 4, 2013 Report Posted November 4, 2013 Don't have much choice do we, cause it's all about the Leaf fans and of course a "national game" maens it has to take place on a 7 PM eastern start time Quote "Never trust a man who has not a single redeeming vice". WSC

Sucks to be on the left coast I suppose. They'll get a lot less viewers watching the Habs v Jets than the Leafs v Nucks. Quote
Wilber Posted November 4, 2013 Report Posted November 4, 2013 Yup, when the Canucks go east, their fans have to put up with afternoon star times including on week days and when the Leafs come to town, they have to do it at home as well. It's all about the Leaf fans. And because it was on Saturday night. Had the game been on Wednesday broadcasting on Sportsnet Ontario/Pacific. The game would have started at 10. I don't know why you're so bent over this. It's a lot easier to watch a hockey game at 4pm then it would have been to watch a very important game for both teams at 10pm. I'm curious was the time changed this week. I suspect the starting time would have stayed local had the Leafs also not been tops in the Eastern Conference. Quote
sharkman Posted November 4, 2013 Report Posted November 4, 2013 Does anyone have an opinion on why the Leafs got their asses handed to them vs the Canucks? Quote
Boges Posted November 4, 2013 Author Report Posted November 4, 2013 Does anyone have an opinion on why the Leafs got their asses handed to them vs the Canucks? The Nucks are still a good team. The 3rd road game in a week on the west coast. The Nucks are likely tired of hearing all the Leafs hype. The Leafs don't play again until Friday. They have played to most games early in the season than anyone in the East Conference. Hopefully they get some rest and come out strong again. Quote
Shady Posted November 4, 2013 Report Posted November 4, 2013 Does anyone have an opinion on why the Leafs got their asses handed to them vs the Canucks? They didn't play very well. Oh well, 2 outta 3 on the road is still nice. The Sedin sisters played a good game. I found it humorous that they were double shifting them at the beginning of the game. Why is playing the Leafs such a big deal to other Canadian teams? Is it like a penis envy kind if thing? I don't get it. Quote

Actually, I'm not so bent over this and there are probably a few Canuck fans in Leaf Land, I can watch a game at pretty much any time but that is not true of most people who are working. Nice to be a Leaf though. Easiest travel schedule of the Canadian teams and no one ever dicks with their home start times to cater to the visitors. Should be careful what I ask for though because it seems to agree with the team. So far this year the Canucks are 8-1-1 in games with start times outside their normal home start time. Shady Posted November 5, 2013 Report Posted November 5, 2013 It's gonna be tough for the blue and white for the next few weeks. Bolland and Bozak are both out indefinitely with injuries. Quote

Really? Did you watch the Oilers and Leafs game last week. There were a comparable number of Leafs fan in the building as fans of the local team. That's something to be jealous about. Quote

Maybe because so many have come from the east, it certainly isn't because of the Leaf's record over the past 40 years. When I was a little bugger all we got was the original six on the radio and I was a Leafs fan. Then we got TV in our little town and I saw the different styles of play at the time and became a Habs fan. When Vancouver got a team I became a Canucks fan. I still might root for the Habs or Leafs, particularly if they are the last remaining Canadian teams in the playoffs, but not when they are playing the Canucks. Boges Posted November 6, 2013 Author Report Posted November 6, 2013 Is it? Why? Dunno, cuz Leaf Nation is a huge brotherhood of disappointed fans that no the pain of following this team. They're the NHL version of the Chicago Cubs. Quote
