CPCFTW
Hey guys I just discovered this forum today, thoughts and prayers go out to Olivia and the family as well as all Canadians of all political or independent stripes I am 16 years old, male, living in Grande Prairie, Alberta, but am a political and historical junkie. This forum was made for me! I look forward to posting from now on, this forum also appears extremely active RIP Jack A 16 year old socialist.. Why am I not surprised? Jack certainly managed to warp the minds of many impressionable Canadian kids. RIP.
Oleg Bach
A 16 year old socialist.. Why am I not surprised? Jack certainly managed to warp the minds of many impressionable Canadian kids. RIP. The road to hell is paved with good intentions - No one has the ultimate political answer to the problems mankind must deal with. Those that stick to one philosophy for a life time are instutional fanatics - nothing worse than some hippy with a grey pony tail that declares himself as a Marxist - IDIOT ! RIP Jack. Oleg Bach
Twelve string guitar hugh? Mostly old hippies play them - It makes a novice sound passable - One chord sounds like a piano - I wonder about Jacks life...I wonder how someone could hold on to an ideal for so long. During a life time a person should be a socialist when they are young and a liberal in middle age - and a conservative when they are wise and mature...frankly I don't know how Jack managed to continue being a leftist knowing that the left all over the world used deadly force to have their way. To bad that Jack did not fully mature and give up on old ideas that are proven to be flawed...why? I don't get it.

Look at Norway, Germany, Switzerland Not all leftist roads lead to hell And this is hardly the thread to discuss these things
Socialist in Oil Country
What does CPCFTW mean? I'd assume it means "Conservative Party of Canada For the Win" It's important for us all to have an open mind with these things. Bashing my political beliefs before I have even really espoused those beliefs is quite comical. Number one - there is no such thing as a political belief...nor political faith - Jack had a political belief that shortened his life - You have to change and adapt constantly - For instance the second you institutionalize a belief as total fact - time marches on and you are instantly out of date. Keeping the mind flexable is what it is about - fanatics all perish early.
Guest American Woman
Wow. I have to say I'm shocked to hear it - wasn't expecting it so soon - or perhaps, not at all. My condolences to the Canadians whom he stood for/fought for/represented, and to Canada as a whole, as it's never easy to lose someone who's been a major force in the politics of their country - and of course my heart goes out to his family. You'll find that anyone not bowing down to Harper as the new Messiah and parroting the CPC talking points loudly enough is soon branded a "commie" and worse by some on this forum. Ignore the idiots though, and you can have a pretty meaningful political discussion here. I'd list them here for you to save you time and frustration, but they will reveal themselves quickly enough. Jack's letter to Canadians brought tears to my eyes, and I am really not in the mood to argue with fools right now. Welcome to the forum. Oleg Bach
His office is about a half a block from my place - The politicals are very reachable in Canada..He was just "Jack up the street" - As if he ran the hardware store or something. Never thought of it that way - just about anyone could go up the road and drop in and say "Is Jack in - I would like to talk to him" _ try doing that in Ameria with the leader of the opposition..Jack was never a distant public figure...just a guy who wanted to make sure that the rich did not totally screw the poor...So he was much like a condomn and a good protector. Michael Hardner
No politician at that level can be much of a fanatic, and this is what I value in our national dialogue: it's a set of compromises made by intelligent people who are doing their best. Jack Layton exemplified this in his positive nature, which rewarded him with historic success for his party this year.

He was skilled - and I am sure might have been a hot head leftie when he was a kid - but to get that far - he had to be reasonalble and diplomaitc - In other words he had grown into a true statesman - and rounded individual...I agree. He was like Moses who wandered for 40 years and then found the promised land - and like Moses the people entered in but he was not allowed to do so _ I just hope that the ones he brought this far are wise. Keeping the mind flexable is what it is about - fanatics all perish early. I am not a political fanatic, let's get that out of the way. I follow no ideology or faith. In hindsight political belief wasn't the best word...but being immediately labelled and ostracized by people on this board is quite funny considering I haven't espoused any political opinions yet. You say Jack's political belief shortened his life... I would like to know how you justify this quote. You blame his cancer on his political belief? If so you are a nutcase
