Tilter Posted April 13, 2011 Report Posted April 13, 2011 Gilles Duceppe, surprisingly can be summed up in the words of Rick Mercer on Twitter earlier: "Sadly Duceppe proves once again he's the only guy who understands our political system." Yes, he does understand how the Quebec government works and if he was being paid (and he is ) to push Quebec separation he earned his million francs tonite. Again--- how did he get into a CANADIAN political debate?? Quote
BC_chick Posted April 13, 2011 Report Posted April 13, 2011 Are you sure? My listings say I have "Glee" at 8:00. -k {If the leaders debate was "Glee", who'd be Britanny and who'd be Santana?} I thought it was the same channel, I'm not sure now because the guide has moved on. But either way, TVO is showing it again at 8:00. Quote It's kind of the worst thing that any humans could be doing at this time in human history. Other than that, it's fine." RB Posted April 13, 2011 Report Posted April 13, 2011 my kid first election to vote is uninterested in politics however said that Iggy was the only one who said "vote for me" and he gave the date whatever that means I quite liked the Gilles Duceppe, Layton reminds me of the sales man, very slick. Grimzby Posted April 13, 2011 Report Posted April 13, 2011 I don't know who grabbed what--- Larper was steadfast on the economy and I thot came thru well but then I vote for him so I'd see him in the best light--- Layton want to spend & tax the corps while lowering taxes for the middle class, exempt the lower earners and generally create the Garden of eden in Canada--- printing presses would be busy as would the wheel barrow manufacturers-- producing the things that would carry the 100,000 Bux to the market to get milk & bread. Iggy kept insisting that parliament had lost faith in the government & so defeated him because of lack of confidence--- polls will show that Harper won tonite. Oh I didn't mention Duceppe, and I won't The true winner in this debate is Elizabeth May....cause she didnt have to participate in this snooze fest Return of the living dead! Quote
August1991 Posted April 13, 2011 Report Posted April 13, 2011 Stephen Harper did an excellent job remaining calm and addressing the Canadian public. My feeling too.People will say that I'm biased but I think Harper won the debate not with any one-liner or gotcha moment but rather by simply appearing cool and calm (like a leader) while the others "bickered". People don't want another election and so Harper will get his majority. Ignatieff and Layton tried to goad Harper on several occasions but failed. I thought Ignatieff would do better given that he has had a lot of experience on TeeVee. But his experience has been in BBC political shows and they are worse than PBS political shows. I was surprised when Ignatieff had no ready answer to Layton about his absences and I was particularly struck when Ignatieff said to Layton, "You have no lessons to teach me about democracy!" ---- Excepting Ignatieff, we've seen these guys before and I just knew that Duceppe would repeat once again that the federal health department manages no hospitals... Duceppe says this every debate. I only saw the last 30 minutes, and I didn't think to tape it because I didn't think the national media would be so galactically stupid as to schedule the debate to be mostly over before I even got home from work. -k I was surpised too.The debate started at 4 pm in Vancouver. Was there a hockey game somewhere? Quote

Moonlight Graham Posted April 13, 2011 Report Posted April 13, 2011 Boy iggy hauled ass out of the scrum when the quebec reporter asked about his attendance record. CBC said Iggy wasn't absent 70% like Layton said, the number was 56% i believe. Quote "All generalizations are false, including this one." - Mark Twain Partisanship is a disease of the intellect.

Moonlight Graham Posted April 13, 2011 Report Posted April 13, 2011 ...and Gilles has no business being in the English debates. I agree. While watching i'm thinking "why are you here?". wyly Posted April 13, 2011 Report Posted April 13, 2011 Harper certainly came across as the most credible candidate for office, but Layton's zingers were awesome. His line about Ignatieff not showing up for work then expecting a promotion was the closest thing to a knock-out punch there was. I thought laytons remark that we didn't need more prisons for crooks as Harper would just appoint them to the senate the best of the night... ToadBrother Posted April 13, 2011 Report Posted April 13, 2011 I thought laytons remark that we didn't need more prisons for crooks as Harper would just appoint them to the senate the best of the night... Cheap pointless shot. All in all I have to say that no one landed any severe blows, and Harper handled himself very well. The best part of the debate was the first 20 minutes, after that it just repetitive. Quote

Bonam Posted April 13, 2011 Report Posted April 13, 2011 I've only watched the first 45 minutes so far, but honestly the only two people there that sound sane are Harper and Layton. It is a sad day for the Liberals when Layton is the voice of sanity among the opposition. I was not at all impressed with Ignatieff. Quote
