capricorn Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 I'm watching the live blogging on RDI. Quite a few of the bloggers are impressed at the level of French spoken by the English leaders. Duceppe is their idol. They have a soft spot for Layton. Ignatieff is receiving his share of positive reviews. They hate Harper. Quote "We always want the best man to win an election. Unfortunately, he never runs." Will Rogers
Bryan Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 Good god. Duceppe just claimed that prisons cause the crime rates to increase. Quote
Battletoads Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 Good god. Duceppe just claimed that prisons cause the crime rates to increase. More Prisons and needlessly harsh laws... Which they do. Quote "You can lead a Conservative to knowledge, but you can't make him think."
punked Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 This is a follow up from last night but the NDP thinks they hit a winning issue. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vv341bqNAOo&feature=player_embedded Quote
punked Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 Layton asking for Federalist votes a straight pitch. I hope it gets replayed I bet it wont but it was a good pitch for the Federalists votes. Quote
Bryan Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 Now Duception says Quebec has been SHORT CHANGED on federal transfers? Has this guy ever seen a lie he doesn't like? Also, that's several times now that they've referred to this as the QUEBEC debate, not the french one. Two official languages, two debates, that makes sense. But, if this is specifically a regional issue, then there should be more than one english one. Quote
punked Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 (edited) Layton has 3 Candidates which have a really good shot at winning and he is actually plugging them this debate. I think it is a great strategy that is how you build a party. I think Iggy is uncomfortable he has been on so much less than every other leader right now. Harper says Iggy will increase the GST, Iggy doesn't make is position clear. I am not sure if he is ignoring him or what? Iggy brings up his parents take a drink everyone. capricorn Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 Speaking about Quebec's place in Canada, Ignatieff informs his parents are buried in Quebec. Raising the dead. When will we speak about Ontario's place in Canada? Duceppe: Don't tell Quebec you love her, show her. Good line Gilles. Quote "We always want the best man to win an election. Unfortunately, he never runs." Will Rogers
Bryan Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 Ignatieff keeps walking into blindsides. It's almost as if he hasn't even been around here for the last 30 some years to see how the Quebec/English Canada relationship has gone. Oh wait... never mind. Quote
Scotty Posted April 14, 2011 Author Report Posted April 14, 2011 More Prisons and needlessly harsh laws... Which they do. Drivel. They do nothing of the sort. Quote It is an inverted moral calculus that tries to persuade the world to demonize one state that tries its civilized best to abide in a difficult time and place, and rides merrily by the examples and practices of dozens of states and leaderships that drop into brutality every day without a twinge of regret or a whisper of condemnation. - Rex Murphy
capricorn Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 I sense there's more emotion from all leaders in tonight's debate. I wonder if it has anything to do with language? Duceppe looks like he's suffering from high blood pressure. Ignatieff always refers to "I would", not "we would". And he accuses Harper of being a one man show. Quote "We always want the best man to win an election. Unfortunately, he never runs." Will Rogers
punked Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 (edited) Iggy just said "No one cares about the Constitution". Seriously he is acting like the Constitution has no place in Canada. He is talking about it like it is a dated document. Wow I never thought I would see a political leader play down the thing that makes Canada, Canada. Didn't think I could hate Iggy any more then he says something as stupid as this. The Constitution does matter and I would like Quebec to sign it no matter what Iggy says. He was doing really well then the Quebec Question came up Layton did well on it and Iggy screwed the pooch. He just lost this is debate on that exchange. Edited April 14, 2011 by punked Quote
Smallc Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 The Constitution does matter and I would like Quebec to sign it no matter what Iggy says. Quebec's signature isn't required. Quote
punked Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 Quebec's signature isn't required. I understand that I would still like them to sign it and the document matters inside and outside of Quebec. Quote
punked Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 Flip floppy Flip flops now the constitution matters. Quote
Battletoads Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 Drivel. They do nothing of the sort. If it was America would be the safest and most law abiding country in the world. But we all know it isn't, and we all know the American approach the Cons want to adopt had fallen flat on its face. Quote "You can lead a Conservative to knowledge, but you can't make him think."
cybercoma Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 Drivel. They do nothing of the sort. Sorry, but every criminologist in the nation says otherwise. It's also pretty simple to see how making harsher penalties and mandatory minimums would increase "crime". We'll have more people incarcerated, which will give the appearance of more crime. It's a stupid game played by the government though. Put mandatory minimums in place and increase funding for prisons: crime rate goes up, government shows that the funding was much needed points to more incarcerations as evidence; crime rate goes down, government sells itself as tough on crime an pats itself on the back for the much needed funding. capricorn Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 Subject is now Canada as peacekeeper. Ignatieff will soon raise Pearson from the dead. Quote "We always want the best man to win an election. Unfortunately, he never runs." Will Rogers
ToadBrother Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 Subject is now Canada as peacekeeper. Ignatieff will soon raise Pearson from the dead. Because standing by and watching civilians butchered is what peace keeping is all about. Quote
capricorn Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 Tonight Ignatieff has addressed the camera in most of his answers. I guess his handler's liked the impact after watching Harper do it yesterday. Quote "We always want the best man to win an election. Unfortunately, he never runs." Will Rogers
punked Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 Because standing by and watching civilians butchered is what peace keeping is all about. Wow Iggy is talking about how much he loves Afghanistan in a Quebec debate? Seriously? Don't think that will play well. Last poll I saw says Quebec hates Afghanistan. Quote
capricorn Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 Because standing by and watching civilians butchered is what peace keeping is all about. Unless the butchers kill the peacekeepers first then they can't watch the butchery. Quote "We always want the best man to win an election. Unfortunately, he never runs." Will Rogers
Shakeyhands Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 This debate is much more interesting than last nights Quote "They muddy the water, to make it seem deep." - Friedrich Nietzsche
capricorn Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 True Shakey, more info coming out on policy. Quote "We always want the best man to win an election. Unfortunately, he never runs." Will Rogers
punked Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 Well this debate is all but over Bloc clearly wins it but nothing will change because of it. No game changers Boring. Quote
