kimmy Posted April 13, 2011 Report Posted April 13, 2011 Based on the 15 minutes that I've actually been able to watch, I would say Jack Layton and Stephen Harper are doing well. This was supposed to be peoples' chance to "get to know Ignatieff". Frankly ... he's pretty annoying. I'm still considering voting Liberal, but Ignatieff sure isn't helping. -k Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)

Smallc Posted April 13, 2011 Report Posted April 13, 2011 (edited) He said increase to, implying that it isn't happening today. If it isn't wrong, it certainly is misleading. It's happening today, but it's set to end in 2014. Ignatieff is saying he will do annual increases of 6% over 2014 levels...the same thing that is happening today (over 2004 levels). capricorn Posted April 13, 2011 Report Posted April 13, 2011 Duceppe said Ottawa doesn't manage a single hospital. I don't think that's right. punked Posted April 13, 2011 Report Posted April 13, 2011 Like how Iggy adds to "save health care". You "Save more Billions". WHAT? Good number there buddy. Quote

blueblood Posted April 13, 2011 Report Posted April 13, 2011 Harper managed to change the channel from the ag scandal to focusing the debate on the economy. Outstanding!!! kimmy Posted April 13, 2011 Report Posted April 13, 2011 How tall is Steve Paikin? I believe Harper is 6'2 ... and when they were shaking hands, it looked like Paikin was a whole head taller. -k Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)
TheRightWing Posted April 13, 2011 Report Posted April 13, 2011 All in all. No one was incredibly impressive. They ALL on the whole debated like amateurs. But i think Harper came out on top. Quote

It wasn't great though because the numbers were made up. You put these jets out to tender you don't save billions at all as pointed here several times. There are like 5, 5th generations fighter jets and the all costs a butt load. What you do is cost us Billions like the Helicopters. What is was, was a lie. Quote
punked Posted April 13, 2011 Report Posted April 13, 2011 I thought it was actually a pretty good debate, especially from Harper's side. Iggy just didn't have it in him to reach out to average Canadians and make them see Harper like he sees him. Quote
Smallc Posted April 13, 2011 Report Posted April 13, 2011 There are like 5, 5th generations fighter jets and the all costs a butt load. Actually, there are currently 2. Both are made by Lockheed Martin. Quote
Smallc Posted April 13, 2011 Report Posted April 13, 2011 Iggy just didn't have it in him to reach out to average Canadians and make them see Harper like he sees him. Iggy did absolutely terrible. He didn't speak to me or anyone else. Layton was, IMO, off his game. Quote

I'd agree. He did exactly what he had to do, which was as little as possible and to keep saying we have to keep the economy going. capricorn Posted April 13, 2011 Report Posted April 13, 2011 My wrap up. I was glad the opps didn't use language like "liar" against Harper but more diplomatic language to say so. Ignatieff came across as too angry and too repetitive where he could have landed more punches. In fairness it's his first such debate. I'm sure he and his handlers will do some soul searching over his performance. Jack looked strong and his health issues were quite invisible...good thing. He landed great lines and used hip language to reach the youth. Duceppe...bleep. Harper stayed cool and came across as humble, keeping the focus on addressing viewers. Now I'll tune in to CPAC for reaction. CPAC will be speaking to the leaders shortly. Quote "We always want the best man to win an election. Unfortunately, he never runs." Will Rogers
TheRightWing Posted April 13, 2011 Report Posted April 13, 2011 The biggest problem with Iggy is that he's only making the case about how bad a prime minister harper is, and not why he'd be a good prime minister. Quote
Bryan Posted April 13, 2011 Report Posted April 13, 2011 Harper certainly came across as the most credible candidate for office, but Layton's zingers were awesome. His line about Ignatieff not showing up for work then expecting a promotion was the closest thing to a knock-out punch there was. Quote
