Bryan Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 This one's been a cluster-f**ck compared to the english one. Those moderators are horrible. Quote
capricorn Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 About the yucky set. A pundit said at the start the bland colours were chosen to ensure none of the colours represented a colour associated with any of the parties. Yes, this was a better debate for substance and emotion than the English. Ignatieff did better than last night. Harper held his own. Jack did very well. Duceppe still annoys me. punked Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 This one's been a cluster-f**ck compared to the english one. Those moderators are horrible. Agreed. I noticed their was so much less from the Liberals in this debate you would have thought they were the NDP the way they were treated by the rest of the parties. Hopefully it is a new day in Canada. I think the mods gave more time to Duceppe, clearly biased IMO. Quote "We always want the best man to win an election. Unfortunately, he never runs." Will Rogers
ToadBrother Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 (edited) I can't figure out why they have party hacks giving their "impressions" of how the debate went. It's like asking a crack addict "Whaddya like better, crack or chocolate milk?" Iggy did better this time around, Layton held his own, Harper was okay, and Duceppe clearly is freaked out about a potential rising Federalist sentiment in Quebec. cybercoma Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 I don't think there should be separate english and french debates. They should be held concurrently with questions being posed in each language from people all over the country. The broadcaster should have french translators for the french networks and english translators for the english networks. This second kick at the can thing pushes Quebec away from the rest of the country. Whether separatists like it or not, they're part of the ROC. Besides there are native french speakers in other parts of the country, who do not get their voice heard when the focus of this debate is Quebec. Quote
Harry Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 (edited) We need weekly debates throughout the campaign. What a wonderful contrast to the English debate, that was a debate tonite, and for goodness sake fire that English moderator - what a loser he is! Edited April 14, 2011 by Harry Quote
Smallc Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 and for goodness sake fire that English moderator - what a loser he is! Are you kidding? Steve Paikin is one of the most neutral, respected figures in the country. It's why he was asked back. He did an excellent job. The French moderators got far too involved. Quote

He did an excellent job. The French moderators got far too involved. I agree. The problem with the English debate was the candidates, who, in general, didn't seem to have as much fire in their belly. The French moderators were awful, and some of the questions posed so obviously leading (I'm thinking specifically of the question on military spending, which was tailor made for Duceppe and Layton), that the only reason this debate succeeded where the English one faltered is because the four leaders seemed much more engaged. Iggy, in particular, really came alive, and we finally saw something of a leader in him. Quote
