guyser Posted November 26, 2010 Report Posted November 26, 2010 (edited) I have to give them credit though. Their outrage over Al Jazeera's CRTC green light was equally as loud. Oops, it wasn't at all. In fact, they defended it. Leftists are twisting themselves in pretzels over this issue. I love it! You actually love that which doesnt exist? Shady, another pathetic "I love that which doesnt happen and I make it up" stories again huh? Edited November 27, 2010 by guyser Quote

Jack Weber Posted November 27, 2010 Report Posted November 27, 2010 (edited) Bullpuckiy. Information has always been politicised.A far greater danger is government regulators saying who can be broadcasters and what they may broadcast...give a me a free and vibrant politicised media over a controlled oner any day.... Well...Yeah,but there are ways of doing it that don't make the politicization so..I don't know...Offensive and egregious... I'm thinking of people who can put out a viewpoint that don't froth at the mouth while doing it...I'm thinking about people like David Brooks,George Will, and,David Frum... In this country I would put John Iveson,Don Martin, and,Lorrie Goldstein on that list. I don't always agree with them, but they can make a reasonable arguement... I suspect that's not the aim here...I suspect the aim is more Hannity/O'Reily/Beck browbeating and foolishness than anything...From my point of view,it'll certainly provide some serious comedic moments of complete and total lunacy... Jack Weber Posted November 27, 2010 Report Posted November 27, 2010 You would rather see people with out choice and without interest in news This is'nt the "news" we are talking about here... This is ideologically driven, dumbed down commentary... The question to me is'nt the ideological stuff, but it's presentation... By the way,I agree with you that the gov't regulators should have butted out... This should provide so much theatre of the completely absurd they should put it on the comedy channel.. I think we should have an MLW ratings system on the commentators who can outfirebreath each other the best... Quote The beatings will continue until morale improves!!!
Saipan Posted November 27, 2010 Report Posted November 27, 2010 At least it's not getting a Category 1 licence and being paid for by everyone's cable fees. Morons have a right to express themselves too. Unfortunately we have to pay for morons in CBC. Quote

You're comparing print journalists/columnists to TV personalities. Apples vs oranges. Anyways, it's funny to see so many people already stereotyping the network even before it's begun to broadcast. kimmy Posted November 27, 2010 Report Posted November 27, 2010 (edited) Well, FoxNorth is going on the air. Was there any doubt? Since the only point of contention was the application for a category 1 license, no there wasn't any doubt. The CRTC official who rejected the initial application made it clear at the time that the issue was with the application for a special category and that it would be easy for them to get a category 2 license instead. But I certainly hope that people will go around claiming that "the fix is in" and that the Conservatives must have made the CRTC change its mind. Because that would be funny. Lets see how nasty they can get when comnes to trashing whom and whatever they are aiming at. http://www.cbc.ca/arts/media/story/2010/11/26/crtc-sun-tv-licence.html Oh noes! This could be ... polarizing! People could get ... polarized! By the way, it appears thatCBC-NN and CTV News won't be mandatory-buy for cable subscribers either: CBC News Network is on basic cable and gets 82 per cent of its revenue from cable subscribers. CTV News Channel, a Category 1 licence-holder, gets 64 per cent of its revenue from subscribers. Both of these networks will lose their gold mines next year when the CRTC eliminates these preferences. I'm of two minds here. Theoretically this would give people more freedom to choose. But in reality it gives Shaw more freedom to come up with new ways to screw people. "Want CTV News? Buy Value Package A!" And then you discover that to get CTV News you have to buy the Stock Car Racing channel, the Tagalog language channel, the Heavy Metal channel, the British Murder Mystery channel, the Tae Kwon Do channel, and the World War II channel. The whole manner in which cable channels are packaged is just a gigantic rip-off from the start. -k Edited November 27, 2010 by kimmy Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)
ironstone Posted November 27, 2010 Report Posted November 27, 2010 I fail to see what all the fuss is about concerning this proposed new channel. To the best of my knowledge,it will be funded with private money and if there aren't enough viewers over time, the channel will cease to exist, unlike the CBC.Ahhh the CBC,funded entirely by tax dollars, has rock bottom ratings with the exception of Wheel of Fortune, and to top it off, they deny us the right to know how they spend our hard earned dollars. This is something you guys should be upset about.Especially the lame excused they come up with in their fight against releasing this information. eyeball Posted November 27, 2010 Report Posted November 27, 2010 I love it, left wing heads exploding because there is going to be a channel with some opposing viewpoints LOL What exploding heads are you talking about? I live right near ground center on the left coast and there's nary a blown up head anywhere in sight. Evening Star Posted November 27, 2010 Report Posted November 27, 2010 Who has been fussing or having their head explode etc? Most of us were just making fun of the prospect of Sun TV. (xpost with eyeball) why should they not be treated the same as CBC or CVTV, why should they get preferential treatment. Well, CTV is another issue but why would a public broadcaster be treated exactly the same as a for-profit private broadcaster? Our taxes pay for CBC so we should all have access to it. In any case, as Kimmy notes, the CBC and CTV news networks weren't going to have Category 1 status anyway. I agree here. Quote
eyeball Posted November 27, 2010 Report Posted November 27, 2010 I agree here. No kidding. We have some 50 channels to choose from and I'm lucky if I can even find one thing worth watching most times. I know people with both cable and satellite TV, hundreds of channels, and 95% of it is just pure crap, all crap, all the time. I recall getting just two channels when I was a kid out in the toonies and when we moved to the city the jump to 10 was astounding. I love anchoring up in some distant spot on the coast and tune in a staticky cbc broadcast of orchestra music with a bit of news every so often. Nothing makes you feel more like you're a million miles away from it all. I made the mistake of listening to my deckhands and subscribing to Sirius Radio last season. It was Korn, hip-hop and the Playboy Channel all the live long day out on deck. Same old crap over and over and over again.
