On Guard for Thee Posted October 17, 2014 Report Posted October 17, 2014 If people don't want it, they shouldn't have to pay for it either. CBC should be exclusively funded by those who choose to subscribe to it. If you go to that process then CBC will decline to the level of US programming. i.e you will have to get your news from the likes of Fox who's first order of business is to please their stockholders. Any hope of balance goes in the dumpster. Quote

Boges Posted October 17, 2014 Report Posted October 17, 2014 The CBC is bleeped now that Hockey has been pretty much taken away from them. Rogers completely panted them by taking all National Hockey Rights. Then to ad insult to injury they built their studio in the CBCs building. Quote
kimmy Posted January 24, 2015 Report Posted January 24, 2015 Guys! I am now equipped with Chromecast, and looking for stuff to stream. I'm familiar with Netflix, of course, but I'm looking for others. I've found one called Crackle, which seems pretty neat. I gather that Sony is behind it, and they've dipped into their vault to provide free content as a way of selling advertising. I have been looking at ones called FilmOn and Pluto.tv as well, although they don't seem to have a ton of stuff I'm interested in. Are there any other "must haves"? I think I'm just about ready to cancel my cable subscription. I'm at the point where I think all I would miss would be occasional live sports events and news coverage of big events like election night. -k Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)
bush_cheney2004 Posted January 24, 2015 Report Posted January 24, 2015 Guys! I am now equipped with Chromecast, and looking for stuff to stream. Welcome aboard...we run four Chromecasts. To get live sports, use an old PC or laptop connected to cast streaming feeds from around the world! Like stream2watch.me from Montenegro...they stream/steal everything but you have to block ads and bad guys. That's why you use a junk laptop...just image it first, then restore the image after it gets totally infected ! Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
Michael Hardner Posted January 24, 2015 Report Posted January 24, 2015 If you love British TV then Acorn is for you. There are a bazillion channels... NowhereCast... try them and see... Quote Click to learn why Climate Change is caused by HUMANS Michael Hardner
Mighty AC Posted January 27, 2015 Report Posted January 27, 2015 I stream Hulu+ for current TV, Netflix for old seasons and kids programming. Hulu requires you to spoof a US IP address. I also stream my own stored stored music and video to TV via Chromecast, Roku and an XBox using Plex, which also has streaming channels. I use a few different Plex channels like CBC, HGTV, History, Disney, Golf, TED, CNN, etc. Quote "Our lives begin to end the day we stay silent about the things that matter." - Martin Luther King Jr"Those who can make you believe absurdities, can make you commit atrocities" - Voltaire
kimmy Posted February 12, 2015 Report Posted February 12, 2015 I have Plex installed now to go with my Chromecast, and I'm getting pretty mixed results with the channels. Some of them work, others like the History Channel and Showcase say there's nothing there when I try to open them. I tried the CBC live sports stream during the hockey game on saturday, but it didn't work either. I gather that the Plex channels are actually plug-ins that have been scripted by users who aren't actually affiliated with Plex or with the channels they're written for? -k Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)

I'll have to test it during HNIC this weekend. I haven't had any problems with the channels, though I mainly use them via my Roku box. I did use the CBC and Comedy Central channels this week via Chromecast to watch Mr D and Drunk History though. I just checked right now and the History app isn't working here either. Boges Posted February 12, 2015 Report Posted February 12, 2015 CBC's Hockey production is now owned 100% by Rogers. I doubt that would work anymore, you gotta get your Hockey fix through a Rogers App of some kind. Quote

Boges Posted March 16, 2015 Report Posted March 16, 2015 (edited) Bit Torrenting is just not worth it anymore. I think crackdowns have become very successful. It requires some serious knowledge of what sites are safe or not. I tried to download a series of a show I don't get on my cable package (I've scaled back my cable channels a fair bit) And I landed myself some nice sneaky spyware. I can still find free music wherever I want but if I want to watch a TV show or Movie, I'll just pay for it or wait to see if it shows up on Netflix. Edited March 16, 2015 by Boges Quote
cybercoma Posted March 16, 2015 Report Posted March 16, 2015 You've got to get into private tracker networks. I don't ever torrent anything, so I have no access to them these days. Quote
Ash74 Posted March 17, 2015 Report Posted March 17, 2015 I have this little black box that streams everything. I usually use GOTV or GOMOVIES. No commercials and no monthly bill. Cost me $200 bucks and we have cut the cable cord. Watching brand new shows, sports, news, etc, etc Love it Quote “Show me a young Conservative and I'll show you someone with no heart. Bonam Posted March 17, 2015 Report Posted March 17, 2015 You've got to get into private tracker networks. I don't ever torrent anything, so I have no access to them these days. Hardly. You've just got to know the names of the safe uploaders of shows. Quote
GostHacked Posted March 17, 2015 Report Posted March 17, 2015 Once I cut the cable off some years ago, my desire to watch movies/TV shows have seriously declines. I do end up finding a lot of documentaries online via Youtube and the like. I am not a sports fan so I don't miss that stuff at all. I am also not exposing myself to constant bombardment of idiotic advertising from TV. Quote
cybercoma Posted March 17, 2015 Report Posted March 17, 2015 The advertising is the biggest thing that I notice. Whenever I'm at someone else's house and they have TV on, I'm actually surprised by the amount of ads and how annoying they've become after not seeing them for so long. It's not the ads themselves that are annoying, but the intrusion. It's hard to explain unless you've experienced it. Quote

cybercoma Posted March 17, 2015 Report Posted March 17, 2015 (edited) Ever use Youtube lately? I use YouTube all the time and the videos are never interrupted by ads. The ones that play at the beginning I can skip within 5 seconds. It's not even remotely comparable to 16 minutes of mind-numbing BS ever hour. It's literally 5-15 seconds, depending on how long the videos are and how many I watch in the hour. Edited March 17, 2015 by cybercoma Quote
cybercoma Posted March 17, 2015 Report Posted March 17, 2015 More importantly, I don't get ads at all on Netflix. Quote
Boges Posted March 17, 2015 Report Posted March 17, 2015 Most people watch TV using DVRs nowadays. Quote
cybercoma Posted March 17, 2015 Report Posted March 17, 2015 (edited) You don't get it. I guess you're not going to until the cable companies just stop offering service that isn't streamed online. Edited March 17, 2015 by cybercoma Quote
