your can pick which show you liked for different category such as music show, comedy show, action adventure, drama, family etc.. or just generally say what ever show or shows one you thought were the best Canadian made TV shows..

Beachcombers - i hated it when if first came out , but later it grew on me and I became a big fan,

Last of the mohicans - great canadiana action show that i watched as a child,

The Shulman File - was a great hard hitting current affair discussion show

fifth estate - used to be a great show once

W5 - used to also be a great show at one time

nature of things - great documentary well done.

hilarious house of Frankenstein - another that i watched as a kid , it was so weird and different, from everything else

TVO's Studio Two - was a great mix of local and foriegn affairs, changed to Agenda and lost its appeal.

this hour has 22 minutes - great comedy writing.

the funny thing is that as kids we always just called it House of Frankenstein, i dont think any of us ever did realize or notice that it was actually frightenstien , at least i didnt till just now. thanks for pointing it out. :)

my cousin was on the tiny talent time when she was a very small kid, it was a big deal to the family that one of our relatives got to go on tv. That show even though it may have looked very armature with all those kids performing was great local community programing and made alot of local kids feel like stars and their families and classmates proud of them.

very sorry guyser to hear of your friends passing.

I know no one will probably agree with me, but I did enjoyed Road to Avonlea because I also liked the Waltons. It both shows, showed what life was like before TV and the good and the bad of those times.

There was a time when canadian content meant producing crap game shows (you have just won a case of dishwashing liquid)

CBC and CTV competed to see who could produce the cheapest shlock possible...their only reason to do so was to fill their cancon quota.

Since the dawn of the cable specialty channels, productions have improved and there is one or two that aren't too embarrassing.

Unfortunately I can't think of any at the moment.

SCTV.

Kids in the hall.

The Newsroom.

As for movies - nothing beats Bubbles Galore except for The Fast Runner.

The Waltons was American (CBS, I think) but somehow Canadian-like in its quiet lack of action.

Looks like someone has a new patronizing catch phrase !

Only outdone by CHCH TV and their show the "Worst Half Hour on Television" game show called Dateline.

The host, EVa D....I shall say no more ;)

What an utterly depressing list of crap......

My choice is Intelligence, canned by the CBC for being too good.

Don Messer's Jubilee..canned by the CBC for being too Canadian.

I think he knows that. He just said he liked Road to Avonlea because he also liked the Waltons.

There is no doubt in my mind that the best TV shows in Canada are produced in Montreal in French. It is not only my opinion, the ratings are there to prove it.

But my favourite example is "Un gars, une fille" (starring Guy A. Lepage who now animates the Sunday evening talk show that has a higher rating than Hockey Night in Canada).

The concept has become popular in many other countries. (I watched it in Russia where it is known as Sacha & Masha.) In Portugal it is Entre Marido e Mulher (Between Husband and Wife), in Holland it is "Volgens hem, volgens haar" (According to him, according to her), in Turkey "1 Woman, 1 Man", and so on.

Surprisingly, I don't think the concept was ever shown in English Canada.

Trailer Park Boys

Kids In The Hall

SCTV

Yup, my top three as well. SCTV was hugely influential down in the States. Kids In The Hall is probably the best post-Python sketch show ever made. Trailer Park Boys, well, it's just so damned much fun.

I'd also give a nod to the Wayne and Schuster specials, and in general the comedy, while corny, was pretty inspired. The Shakespeare baseball sketch, in all its forms (because they did it several times) may be the single most inspired few minutes of comedy ever produced by Canadians.
