Shady Posted October 18, 2010 Report Posted October 18, 2010 My only opposition to Fox is that the continue to flout the distinction between news and entertainment You mean like Jon Stewart? and the Sun can't be expected to improve on that. Freedom of speech isn't based on what your assumptions are, or your political personal taste. Quote
Michael Hardner Posted October 18, 2010 Report Posted October 18, 2010 News is entertaining....not much different than CTV news talking about the previous nights winners on Dance Canada, or the CBC news talking about battle of the blades...this had more to do with convergence, something SUN won't have (yet). I can't deny it, but when the gossip and entertaining news is separated from the pure information that we need to form opinions, it makes it easier for the 20% of us who pay attention to such things. Michael Hardner Posted October 18, 2010 Report Posted October 18, 2010 You mean like Jon Stewart? Yes. Freedom of speech isn't based on what your assumptions are, or your political personal taste. Why would you think that it was ? That's quite a compliment to me, though. Quote Looks like someone has a new patronizing catch phrase ! Michael Hardner
Shady Posted October 18, 2010 Report Posted October 18, 2010 I don't oppose freedom of expression, but I oppose Fox. Because they don't express free speech the way you think it should be expressed. Quote
Michael Hardner Posted October 18, 2010 Report Posted October 18, 2010 Because they don't express free speech the way you think it should be expressed. No, because they suck. Quote Looks like someone has a new patronizing catch phrase ! Michael Hardner
Shady Posted October 18, 2010 Report Posted October 18, 2010 Yes. Excellent. It'll be interesting to read up on all of your Jon Stewart criticisms. Quote
Michael Hardner Posted October 18, 2010 Report Posted October 18, 2010 Excellent. It'll be interesting to read up on all of your Jon Stewart criticisms. Shady Posted October 18, 2010 Report Posted October 18, 2010 No, because they suck. That's quite an intelligent argument. Perhaps we should all seek to silence speech that we think sucks. What a great society we'd live in. Quote

Michael Hardner Posted October 18, 2010 Report Posted October 18, 2010 That's quite an intelligent argument. It's not an argument, it's an opinion. I'm not arguing that Fox should be banned, I'm saying it's yucky. Perhaps we should all seek to silence speech that we think sucks. What a great society we'd live in. You go ahead. It's probably a better idea than your habit of posting YouTube videos and anecdotes to prove your point. Quote Looks like someone has a new patronizing catch phrase ! Michael Hardner

scribblet Posted October 19, 2010 Report Posted October 19, 2010 Yup, but some people don't make the distinction, they seem to think he's a real news commentator. I don't understand how people can say CTV is right wing, I watch it because to me it's pretty well neutral. Quote Hey Ho - Ontario Liberals Have to Go - Fight Wynne - save our province

bloodyminded Posted October 20, 2010 Report Posted October 20, 2010 (edited) And you don't understand why he ignores you? Oh, I know exactly why he ignores me. He called me a pedophile, and has since never forgiven me for his calling me a pedophile. And I should clarify; he ignores me--but he does not ignore my posts. He argues with them to others, sort of debating at second-hand, while never engaging me directly. You know, like a coward. scribblet Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 Founded by Canadian Conservative John Bassett. So - I haven't heard anything yet that would lead me to believe it's biased, I have always seen it as neutral, straight reporting. I generally try to watch the 6:00 pm news and sometimes their newsnet but it's just a loop of the same news all day. Quote Hey Ho - Ontario Liberals Have to Go - Fight Wynne - save our province

M.Dancer Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 So, being a conservative - and seeing this as neutral... what do you think - maybe they're conservative too ? I don't find CTV to be biased either, and given I am a centrist.... If anything I find their coverage of events, from the banal to the senstational, to be superficial...which is par for TV. Michael Hardner Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 I don't find CTV to be biased either, and given I am a centrist.... I'm a bigger centrist than you and I find their selection of events to cover to be right-of-centre. Also, you're Scottish or something so disqualified. Michael Hardner Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 Really? have you ever voted for the NDP in civic, provincial or federal elections? Ah... senator... cough.. cough... I reserve my right to not respond... Anyway, even if I did vote NDP, campaign for them, and attend political rallies - that could have been years ago, had I done those things in those campaigns for Rae, and the others. bloodyminded Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 I've voted Con, Lib, and NDP...all multiple times, in fact. I just discovered I'm about the most centrist guy around! Quote As scarce as truth is, the supply has always been in excess of the demand. --Josh Billings
