Topaz Posted June 9, 2010 Report Posted June 9, 2010 Quebecor Media Inc. has files application with the CRTC to brought a Fox news like to Canada and it would be under Kory Teneycke as V.P. Of development and former Communication Czar to Harper. I just wonder how this will play out, Kory does have a wife that is a advisor to Harper and I guess he'll have more power to what is going on in Parliament. So, are the Tories going to sell the CBC and send money to Quebecor? http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/capress/100609/business/craft_quebecor_news_channel Quote

Jack Weber Posted June 9, 2010 Report Posted June 9, 2010 Could you re write that in your native language and let me take my chances translating it.... I think what he's trying to say is that Quebecor has applied for a "Made in Canada" right wing kook network along the lines of Fox in the U.S. Quote The beatings will continue until morale improves!!!

Shady Posted June 10, 2010 Report Posted June 10, 2010 It'd be nice to have a balance to the complete bias of the CBC. And in this case, it won't be using tax dollars. So it's win-win! Quote

Borg Posted June 11, 2010 Report Posted June 11, 2010 If they can get past the government regulators and get it started it will do well despite those here who would mock it. A surprizing number of Canuckleheads are tired of the status quo of those who would force their own thoughts upon the remainder and then refuse to allow the other side to speak. Despite the laughs at Fox they do well in the ratings. Freedom of speech and press also requires the other side of the story - perhaps pompous Peter or lying Lloyd will do a runner. Look forward to seeing it on the air. Borg Quote
Topaz Posted June 11, 2010 Author Report Posted June 11, 2010 Kory, boss is throwing 100 Mil to this project and it has to pass the CRTC first, but if this is for the Conservative party for future use, I say its pass one way or another. Kory will also be a multi-millionaire and the host of the show, well who will be the Canadian Hannity. BTW, Hannity doesn't seem to like Canadians, I've never heard him say a nice thing about Canadians or Canada. Rush, he likes coming up here to golf and fish. The reporters for this station are probably being paid very well, but I wonder how long they will stay if things get really nasty? http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/right-leaning-tv-channel-in-the-works/article1600054/ Quote
sharkman Posted June 12, 2010 Report Posted June 12, 2010 Riiiiight.... 'Cause there no right wing information outlets in Canada... It's totally dominated by crazy left wingers and crypto-Communists.... It sounds weird, right? Why, of course we have a balance of news sources in canada, we're civilized after all. Not really. Since we are talking about TV news, lets zero in on that. I learned a simple method by which to judge whether a network is left or right of center or even objective. Take a person that is firmly in one camp, and watch how a particular network reports on him. Take the CBC and Dubya, for instance. Not once did I ever see them report on a story he was in without bias rearing it's ugly head. It got quite comical actually, watching them sneer or report with skepticism that which was fact. And watch how a network reports on, say, Al Gore. The CBC loves him and wants to have his children, and they can't keep their bias out of the reports containing him. The sad thing is, many of the younger people don't even recognize bias when they see it. Networks in Canada are mostly firmly ensconced on the left side of the spectrum, and it does not benefit Canada to have such an imbalance in perspective. Quote
Smallc Posted June 12, 2010 Report Posted June 12, 2010 (edited) Ha right wingers are funny. Canada doesn't have any left wing news...and I don't want it to. I like balanced news, and for the most part, that's what we have. Having competing left and right wing stations does not give balance, it simply results in polarization. Everyone gets to hear what they want. No one ever hears the other side...and I mean truly hears the other side...and they end up trapped in their own deranged little world. It's easy to say that Canada has balanced news, if you happen to agree with the biases of the predominant news sources in Canada. However for many of us these sources seem quite far to the left. The CBC in particular, even if it has somewhat toned down directly bashing the Conservatives, still portrays a very left wing world view, whether it comes to environmentalism, or foreign policy, or multiculturalism and immigration, etc. I think Canada could certainly benefit from competing news channels that don't all pedal the same ideological viewpoint.
