DogOnPorch
...and lol at trying to put down carter.didn't carter broker a peace deal between israel and egypt? isn't that significant? it's more than any other president been able to do. Carter didn't do sfa. He rode on the coat-tails of a certain gesture made by a tired old soldier on Nov 19th, 1977. But your chums killed that guy on Oct 6th, 1981. DogOnPorch
Carter is a boob. Always has been. Always will be. The Palestinian Cause is the opposite side of the coin of Jewish Zionism. Both claimed the ruins of the former Ottoman Empire as theirs. Its founder was a rabid anti-Semite, one of Hitler's inner circle and a former SS general. He went on to reject the partition of 1947 and led the call for war against the new state of Israel. He lost his war of aggression. Good thing, too, as who would want a former SS general running the show? You? His nephew Yasser took over the helm in 1964 and began using terrorism to promote his uncle's fascist cause. Hamas and Hezbollah continue the tradition. So do you, apparently. Die fahne hoch!
Oleg Bach
Zionists are not Jews - what we have here are Arab gangsters who have duped the Palistinians and use them - and Zionist gangsters that have done the same to the Jews - and the average person suffers so they can profit in crime. Bonam
oh and lol @ you being an atheist who supports the creation of a jewish state. Hey I'm an atheist too, and I support it as well. First of all, it is only in recent times and in Anglo-derived culture that Jews are considered a religious group. In eastern Europe, where most Jews lived prior to WWII, they were considered an ethnic/racial group, and are still considered as such in most areas of the world, as well as by the state of Israel. The existence of Israel is important not because of its religious connotation (though some fanatics view it in that light), but because the Jewish group of ethnicities (Ashkenazi, Sephardi, etc), need a place to call their own, as they have suffered discrimination throughout history when living in the homelands of other ethnicities. The vast majority of other ethnic groups have their own sovereign homelands as well, with just a few exceptions. Where such exceptions exist, there is continued violence (i.e. Kurds, Sri Lanka, Yugoslavia, Georgia, etc).
Oleg Bach
Now I have seen it all - an atheist who supports a holy Jewish state! This will work out perfectly seeing that most of the young Israelis have embraced the big nothing also --- so...........how much longer is everyone going to keep this religious ruse going? benny
Now I have seen it all - an atheist who supports a holy Jewish state! This will work out perfectly seeing that most of the young Israelis have embraced the big nothing also --- so...........how much longer is everyone going to keep this religious ruse going? About The Subject Supposed to Believe: There are some beliefs, the most fundamental ones, which are from the very outset "decentered" beliefs of the Other; the phenomenon of the "subject supposed to believe" is thus universal and structurally necessary. From the very outset, the speaking subject displaces his or her belief onto the big Other qua the order of pure semblance, so that the subject never "really believed in it"; from the very beginning, the subject refers to some decentered other to whom he or she imputes this belief. All concrete versions of this "subject supposed to believe" (from small children for whose sake parents pretend to believe in Santa Claus to the "ordinary working people" for whose sake Communist intellectuals pretend to believe in Socialism) are stand-ins for the big Other. So what one should answer to the conservative platitude according to which every honest person has a profound need to believe in something is that every honest person has a profound need to find another subject who would believe in his or her place.http://www.lacan.com/zizek-pompidou.htm

IMASINNER
Our lifestyles (Canada's too) caused the economic 'meltdown'. Too much living beyond one's means. None of our banks failed? Not one. Sure CIBC had to write down some subprime investments they made in the states, but none of them failed. Some may have lived beyond their means but it didn't contribute until after the meltdown in the states.

KrustyKidd
Father's day is not about celebrating some genes but a social function. I agree but would add that the social function is to simply pause and show appreciation for the male role model in your life be it foster, adopted or blood. One could say that someone who only has a gripe with one side of a very complicated issue and brings it up in threads that have nothing to do with that issue is not only confused, but obsessed with one side being villified over the other to the point where history is rewritten in his posts in order to do so. Bonam
an atheist supporting a religious state such as israel is as confused as an anti-abortionist who performs abortions. Read the post. Furthermore, how is Israel a religious state? Is it controlled by a theocracy? Is one not allowed to practice any but the state religion? Is atheism prosecuted? I think you might have Israel confused with some Arab country. Israel is a state founded for the Jewish ethnic groups, many of the members of which happen to practice Judaism as a religion. That doesn't make it a "religious state".
