It is becoming clear that the sweeping domestic and foreign policy changes envisioned by Obama supporters (and leveraged to his advantage during the Obama - Clinton primary showdown) are not happening fast enough, if at all. President Obama has "flip-flopped" on the following issues now that he is no longer a mere candidate trying to score points:

- Reinstated military tribunals

- Likes wiretapping after all

- Prefers not to disclose more Abu photos

- Wants to spend money like a drunken sailor

- Wider WoT front in Pakistan

- Has not "closed" 'Gitmo

President Bush can rest comfortably, perhaps inviting President Obama to the opening of his library (of ideas).

No charge for "hope" at election time.....just don't expect any changes very soon.

But he's Jesus - I saw thousands weep and chant, "yes we can" > Give it another month and the kingdom of heaven will be at hand and we will all get a bail out - a million dollars for every one! I love Obama de Christos......He is the saviour - he even said so - but - nuclear bombs ----he's going to get rid of all of them - BUT NOT in his life time - I guess that means he getting rid of nukes but not getting rid of nukes - I guess he is Jesus - asending and desending...

Right...if it worked for Jesus, it can work for President Obama. Amen Brutha!

You gotta believe - It's best to believe in a messiah than not - human belief is wealth - It's like those that believe in a God fair better than those that don't. It does not matter if there is a God or not..the human mind is powerful - faith is the fuel and love is the lubricant...did I say that?

Yep, because the old boss had it right. It's amazing how reality can trump campaign fearmongering isn't it? Another example of how Obama didn't know what the hell he was talking about last year, and how platitudes are easier than policy. W vindicated once again.

I never expected to see even Obama's harshest critics unanimously supporting his policies so early in his term. I guess he's as receptive to GOP ideas as he said he would be during the campaign.

You think some of the Republicans here will vote him now that he has won their hearts?

It would be a change to have a relatively unified America after eight years of left wing rabid division despite the flip flopping Obama has done on so many issues. One can only hope that he figures out how to realize reality prior to making changes and then, weakening his equity in front of the international community when he finds out (as in Gitmo etc) that they are only pie in the sky fantasy and comes off as an idiot.

Myself, I would support him. He's rational and has good intentions however, needs to think his changes through prior to 'proclaiming' them as reality.

There is no vindication of George Bush, unless you wanna say there is a vindication of Bill Clinton.

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss, has been going on continuously, from President to President.

Wasn't it Greenspan that called Clinton the best Republican President ever?

“I think Bill Clinton was the best Republican president we’ve had in a while.”

Obama never was about real change, just the cosmetic kind.

Insults are the ammunition of the unintelligent - do not use them. It is okay to criticize a policy, decision, action or comment. Such criticism is part of healthy debate. It is not okay to criticize a person's character or directly insult them, regardless of their position or actions. Derogatory terms such as "loser", "idiot", etc are not permitted unless the context clearly implies that it is not serious. Rule of thumb: Play the ball, not the person (i.e. tackle the argument, not the person making it).

One thing though, he doesn't have the experience of a George W, and is making gaff after gaff.

A couple of leftwingers earlier wondered if republicans would now support Obama since he's the new Bush, but it's obvious the left is in denial. Perhaps this is a vast conspiracy by Obama, and his leftwing base is receiving 'messages' in his speeches about what he's really going to do if they only wait.

But since his approval numbers keep dropping, it's obvious that those on the left with any brains are not liking what they are seeing.

Some gaffs were to be expected for a new administration, but since Obama has an amalgam of new and old staff wonks, he should have been able to avoid some of them. Still, he was smart enough not to get bogged down in another "Gays in the Military" fiasco, and has deftly chosen paths that anger a varied cross section of the already marginalized. This president guards his middle base better than Martin Brodeur, and can talk his way out of a pinch. Part of it is of his own making, having set the bar high at Baby Jesus.

President Obama now has a much better perspective of the entire national security landscape, and the executive responsibility not appreciated in context as a mere candidate. Some Samalian pirates will never vote for him again!

You don’t worry about being disingenuous with a statement like “his approval numbers keep dropping” when it’s clear that they’ve consistently gone both up and down within the 60th percentile since he took office?

More alarming for Mr. Obama is the slope of the "disapproval" curve.

Both you and I were aware of what was going to take place because we are wise cynics and don't go for the emotional seduction of the people - most are trusting and invite the vampire in because he's charming - well - he's in - and the idiots will now have to cope with an entity that they still have a problem getting their minds around - Obama is a representative of the status quo -one that has existed for over a hundrend years..there is no change to come - responsiblity rests with the people - but most are chicken shits and will never stand up like free individuals. Give it two years and Bush will look like the benevolent choir boy - Bush did have heart - Obama has a mouth and a swaggering ego - did no one notice that his gate was that of a punk?

What is inaccurate? I provided the most recent data that backs up what I said. His numbers today, in fact, went up.

And I wasn't "throwing stones." I asked if you felt your position was disingenuous. If I were throwing stones, I would have called you a liar, but I thought maybe you just didn't know better.

But now that you have the data in front of you and you pretend it doesn't exist...

I think President Obama will settle in at 50% or so and be subject to the same weather as any president, especially if it goes two terms. That punk gate is leftover survival behavior from Chicago! Back in the 60's, we had full blown pimp strutting to announce..." I am a bad ass".

Yah - when I was a kid I swaggered - now I just try to look dangersous - like a guy that's older and did federal time...in the mean while I did a few days for an unpaid fine when I was young - but I toured the place - and saw the basics - of provincal penal life - I guess Obama is doing federal time - and has to show that he is boss of the block - that means being respect not just because you are tough - but because you are tough and you actually care - it's called the ideal father figure - so far he looks like the semi-gay youger bother that went to university...Maybe he should understands - that the rest of the world is not as delluded as the west - that they except the fact that they are bad asses - Where as it's hard to be a bad ass if you have not confessed to a sin or two - America never confesses..that's why you are not in the real bad ass club!

Oh Mr. Habitat for humanity and the addcited to pain killer crowd that jimmy hammered nails for.. Peanut man had a bit to much of that secret Carl Marx thing going on. Yep..that's the guy...and if Obama falls into that trap domestically (economic doom) or with foreign policy (Iran / Terror Perps), then the Democrats will piss away their poltical advantage. That's why 'Gitmo is still going strong.

And the obamites will say that he's been floating around 50% since his election, his numbers haven't slid whatsoever.

Obama is a big disappointment so far. I never believed he was the the change he advertised, but some of the things he has done (or not done) as BC has listed are just backwards. He has broken many campaign promises already. He probably will close Gitmo, but if the same torture is going on in other U.S. prisons around the globe then it's simply a symbolic gesture.

Obama is smart, but a wimp. He doesn't have the chops to stand up to the giant political machine he now finds himself entangled in. Even if Obama followed through on all his campaign promises it still wouldn't have been enough change IMO. He's still 5000x more capable a President than Bush though, but that's not saying much.
