David Suzuki versus Justin Trudeau
overthere replied to Derek 2.0's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
My bfeeling is that none of the candidates take Suzuki seriously. It a rare moment of all of them being correct about something. Suzuki has been a professional attention whore, and a grotesque hypocritic, for a very long time. -
I would take the Yankees, assuming they win the one game wild card playoff All teams are good, but the Jays are inside the Wanks heads. But the Jays are not liklely to meet the Rangers in the first round as the Rangers will probably win their division It may be Astros vs Yankees in the wild card. I like the Jays chances against the Stros too, who have a terrible road record. And it is not just the last game that gets Buehrle into the bullpen. You cannot help but be uneasy with how hard he gets hit often- he has dodged many bullets this season but now the 85 mph fastball is getting hit into gaps. Dickey too, sometimes.

Jeez, imagine how hard it would be to put a piece of masking tape over that pesky check engine light. It is nearly as hard as unplugging the chipset before you go to the dealer or for an emissions check.

Meanwhile, back at the turd factory, Mulcair promises no deficits while implementing some huge new social programs. Yet he makes no mention of how to pay for it. Does this kind of outright fibbing appeal to the riders of short buses?

This is silly. VW is a massive corp who got caught being naughty. THeir vehicles are no less reliabloe, powerful or economic as a result. GM, Ford and others have sold killer cars and .... still doing fine. Toyota had loads of saftey recalls and here they are... #1. Hyundai just got caught lying about their fuel economy.... company is booming. VW will pay some fines, act contrite and quickly get back to making billions.
-
You are ignoring the simple fact that it will be nothing at all to mechanically defeat the VW 'fix'. VW owners won't be ignoring that reality. Rechipping vehciles usually involves simply inserting a device in the easily accessible harness under the hood. If the govt requires ongoing or annual testing, you just take it out of the harness. It is that simple. Many thousands of vehicles of all brands already have this setup. The check engine light? Must be a crappy chipset that causes any of that to happen.
-
I guarantee that aftermarket chipmakers are already developing/have developed plugin solutions to VW engine management issues related to emissions. here is one of many http://www.chipexpress.com/products/vw/ Seriously, take a look around you at what people drive. They are far more concerned with the cost of operation than emissions. Most owners will take the cash from VW, accept the chip modification from VW because they must(and how will they be forced?), then rechip back to their old standards of performance and economy. Unless you think human nature will somehow be magically transposed by this little buntoss? Oh, and many of these chipsets on diesels can be taken in and out in seconds.

Why would it be unsellable? How many drivers do you think would actually trade great fuel economy for saving Mommy Earth? Judging by the poor sales of electrci vehicles the answer is: not very many. Nah, VW will compensate owners with a few K each to offset potential loss of value, pay some big fines, and everybody carries on driving Calgary to Vancouver on a single tank.
-
Management gambled that they would not be discovered, vs grabbing a nice chunk of market. VW has grown greatly in the last decade or two, and has a fat chunk of world share- second globally to Toyota and hot on their heels. They have made a pile o' money as a result, so perhaps they did get away with it on balance.

Some neighbourhoods in Edmonton has a splattering of lawn signs that say "I Vote CBC". They are at the same houses where the short bus stops twice a day for the owners.
-
It is in Alberta. It takes an address, 5 minutes and $10 to find the owners name(s), mortgage amount, liens , encumbrances via a public government website. If you lack a computer those requirements become an address, 15 minutes unless the lineup is longer or shorter and $15 at any registry agency and they are all privatized here.

Now I am confused. Is Toronto still World Class?

Can you name 10 REAL achievements of PM Stephen Harper?
overthere replied to Go.Leafs's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Yes, that 'contermpt' baloney was engineered by the oppposition parties who outnumbered a minority Harper govt, and could have brought him down anytime they chose. Yet they failed to serve the Canadian public by doing so in several years of easy opportunity. Why is that? Is it just possible that the contermpt contretemps was just that much manufactured political bullshit, fashioned to manipulate those so very anxious to be easily manipulated? -

Yet all through that election the Chretien Liberals vowed to repeal the tax the instant they were elected, then renged entirely. It was hardly the biggest lie that Chretien The Thief foisted in us of course. And who can forget Sheila Copps(promoted to Deputy PM eventually) who solemnly promised to resign if the Libs did not axe te tax, reneged on that promise, then sobbed publicly when forced to resign her seat over her lies. And a bunch of you here look back on that era as a time to be proud of our govt? For shame. The country was divided first by Mulroney, but mostly by Chretien again. Both felt the need for some extraordinary sucking up to Quebec for votes, and Chretien really got into it when he nearly lost the province in the second separation referendum. Every region in the country recognized that bullying Ottawa worked, if you had the stones and the weight. And that has only gotten worse, it's every region for itself since. The current format of the CPC is largely thanks to Chretiens/Liberal efforts to divide the country on partisan lines. So, Chretien did do one thing of value and substance in his career. To Harpers credit, his response has been to try and draw a sharp line between what constitutionally is the provinces territory, and what is Ottawas business. Oh, and he gave a sharp and effective kick to Quebecs groin by gaining a majority govt without any help from Quebec. That alone is the greatest boon to federalism and the biggest shot of reality therapy in a few generations of increasingly sordid and partisan fed/provincial relations.. The Bloc is not an effective force any more, the new separatist ventriloquists dummy for Quebec is now the NDP. Harper had something to do with that, for good or bad. -
Oh, I would take Estrada for sure and save the wear and tear on a coin. In what order? Mine would be Price, Stroman, Estrada then Dickey. And Dickey would be on a much shorter leash than Gibbons normally employs. Gibbons will have a tough time telling any veteran that they aren't playing or are way down the pecking order though. Jays might have sealed the deal last night, 3.5 games lead with 10 left to play is tough. We shall not speak of the unspeakable: 1987 or 3.5 game leads with a week to go in the season.
-
the win last night may have been the biggest one of the season. A few of the Jays are looking sluggish and lost at the plate: Donaldson, Pillar, Colabello are examples. But others are starting to show some grit: Goins, Smoak , Navarro and the guy that they really need both sides of the ball: Russell Martin. He is a really key player on that team.

No, dairy ,cheese and egg controls are favoured by farmers because the mandated supply management eliminates competition and guarantees fat profits for a privileged few. Please, lets not pretend there is some noble motive here. Thanks. Who needs them when your friends in government have the game totally rigged so that there is no actual competition?

Everest and death tourism are irrevocably intertwined now. -

The outcome of that storm, with many deaths, has been the subject of several documentaries and books, most notably Into Thin Air by Krakaeur. I'll definitely be going to gain another perspective on what remains a climbing controversy regarding 'death tourism'.. I saw Black Mass this weekend. It was pretty good though I had this niggling feeling that Depp was hamming it up a bit too much. Again. -
Minimum Wage and a Roboticized Economy

Fast food joints are often open 18 to 24 hours per day, every day , and will have closer to 100 employees- not <15. No, people buy fast food becuase it is cheap. Everybody has to eat, and we'd all rather have filet mignon than turd-on-a-bun but..... If the price goes up dramatically at cheap places, people will stop eating out so much. That may not be a bad thing, but to pretend it will not cost jobs is disingenuous. People in unskilled jobs don't collect welfare here, they live worse and/or work more.
